Jim Gordon and Bill Chadwick take me back to my teenage years in Casper, Wyoming, doing homework in front of my parents' old Black and White TV set in their room, and I'm hearing them while doing homework. They are the soundtrak of my youth, when we only had 12 cable channels, but one of them was USA Network doing MSG events like the Rangers and WWF wrestling and Knicks basketball after Calliope. Thank you for saving these games!!! I'm in Casper, Wyoming, again, where my heart still is though I don't live there anymore!!!
Yes sir, the 70's and 80's Garden ROCKED for Ranger hockey. Anyone who was there for it knows it was a wild and at times lawless place to be. The times of my life indeed !! Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue forever..........
@@ANTHONY0808able i have had season tix since 1977 and went to every game back then including the playoffs. msg was much louder back then. i miss these days.
@@ANTHONY0808able Lawless is a great way to put it...not for the faint of heart for sure. The whole Garden experience was a blast and is greatly missed.
MSG was the best back then. They ruined it on purpose. Split up the blues, changed the seats, piped in noise to drown out the crowd. Now it’s boring. But great memories! Listen to the crowd in this game!
Blues Goalie Mike Liut had an outstanding all star regular season and I didn't think the Rangers could beat his St Loui Blues in the playoffs. Steve Baker played great for the Rangers in goal and The NYR's knocked off the Blues. Shoot The Puck Barry Shoot The Puck !!! THKS For The Cool NYR's Blast From My Past !!!
@@ANTHONY0808able Yep, the NYR's had a good team and Barry Beck was a good Capitan, but they couldn't get by the Fish Sticks. But it was a of fun screaming my head off in the blue seats Shoot The Puck Barry !!
Was at this game with my Dad. Near end of game fans started chanting “we want the Islanders.” We got the Islanders and they swept us in the next round.
The painful memories of 78 and 79 were still fresh in the Isles memories. in 81 they settled scores with Toronto and the Rangers, sweeping both in crushing fashion.
no matter.. 79 always bothered the islanders because they were best in reg season. it cost them the 5 straight cup record that only montreal has. it bothers them like SB 42 & 46 bothers the Patriots. Like 2004 bothers the Yankees.
Yes, this was a sub par Rangers team about to be turned over to Herb Brooks in 82. To this day not sure how they beat very good Kings and Blues teams consecutively in the post season.
Man the Rangers sure played some sloppy hockey back then. Extremely undisciplined, unorganized and they got flustered and choked so easily. It's unbelievable how much better they look today. It's like a trillion times different. Even the 94 team was light-years ahead of this early 80's franchise.

Gordon and Chadwick were the best broadcasting combo in hockey. The MSG press box should be in their names
Amen!
The TV booth was an afterthought after the bldg opened. it hung from the roof at the center. a staircase came down for crews to get in and out
Love the MSG crowd back in those days now you can hear a oin drop most nights

@@joetriolo9161 Yes Joe, what we witnessed at 70's and 80's MSG definitely crossed the line in to lawlessness LOL !! No specifics needed.

A nice run to the semis in 81, upsetting LA and St. Louis back to back. We won't bother talking about the semi finals result LOL !!

My 2. all-time favorite teams!!
Bring back this game today
Ulf Nilsson Finally got healthy for this cup run and had a great playoff
How bout #12 Joe Michelleti on the blues!
24:43 This is why you're here.
Blues had a great regular season but shit the bed in the playoffs.
