Practicing not going to failure of my back, but to slowly increase quality reps with this correct hand grip. Prep order currently: lateral tension -> hinge -> thumb
I had an accident when i was little with a scorpion (it stung me in my heart and it destroyed my nervous system) and since i always had a super weak grip, thing of if i try and hold your hand tight i just can't, and man. I had already known about this through experimentation. I am hypermobile and double jointed so I assumed that was why i could do this. I see now anyone can do this. But what is amazing to me is when you made the comparisons to other parts of the body. My entire life I have avoided deadlifts due to injuries while performing the lift. I never thought to do the same thing with my spine and back as with my fingers to in essence lock your upper body. It's probably going to be a lot harder but the difference is now at least I will be working the proper muscles and strengthening them instead of simply injuring myself. Im 48 years old with Ehlers Danlos syndrome which makes me hyper-flexible and this video makes sense to me. Excellent content subbed 100%. I can't wait to try it. Don't worry I'll play it safe and only use the bar or light dumbells at first!

THIS ACTUALLY FEELS CRAZY! Ive always had issues with back engagement and shoulder issues and they almost instantly clear up when using the correct grip! ive been using neutral thumb rotation for everything and it did work fine but it wasnt really good but NOW if i purposefully use internal or external for certain exercices the muscle engagement is MIND BLOWINGLY DIFFERENT. For Lateral raises especially external thumb rotation seems SOOO much more natural and acc doesnt hurt (which is an issue ive had for a years). So thanks a lot for this video, Im always learning things when i thought i already knew most of bodybuilding advices and basic mecanics. edit: I went to the gym todaty and tried internal for all pushing and external for pulling and damn ive never felt this good, i wanted to stay there for 3h tbh but had to stop it after 1h30 because i just couldnt do any more reps in ANYTHING ffs

(ALSO This might help in arm wrestling as ive always been trash at it while being relatively strong soo thumb placement might've been be the main cause of it...idk) Thanks a lot anyway and keep up the good work :)
3:10 I like this breakdown. I Injured my hand on some glass cut right across the palm where the fingers attatched. I didn’t have that tension in any of my fingers for quite a while. I knew it was missing and it helped. Hearing it echoed as something you recognise is interesting. Most people use these things without realising how they work or even how they feel as they’re doing them
My whole deal is trying to articulate details that people either take for granted or unknowingly miss out on, in the hopes that through greater understanding they can be optimized and spread to the masses. I’m glad you found the video useful, thanks for watching!
If I had to guess why the thumb mechanics work, I'd guess it's something to do with wrist rotations and counter-rotations. (When training with club bells and similar tools with a center of mass that's outside the hand in a hammer grip you have to engage the thumb in these ways to twist it or hold it in place against gravity.) It could be that stabilizing the wrist or creating that feeling of stability convinces the mind to recruit more muscle fibers along the upper body chain too -- that's just my thought on why it would have an impact on shoulder efforts. Might also have something to do with hanging on tree branches and the kind of efforts you need to make to swing or realign your body when doing that, since that's a big part of why we have hands and shoulders.
Dude it’s crazy how night and day this is. I’ve been struggling to do pull ups, but after using a proper grip I cranked out a set of 5. I’ve been struggling to hit hard enough in armored combat, but can’t wait to try this out with a sword
That’s awesome! in my upcoming grip video for grappling I’ll actually be covering something I’ve been calling a “buckler” grip, which is essentially an extrapolation of ideas related in thumb pushing/internal rotation, and allows the hand and arm to become hugely reinforced in piercing and deflection motions. I apply the concept for achieving under hooks, but I’m sure you’ll find probably find it even more applicable with an actual weapon designed for those actions. Super exciting to see this video having such a wide audience of violence connoisseurs

This is insightful! The body’s capacity for self-optimization is remarkable. Precise muscle activation engages not only prime movers but also deeper stabilizers, laying the groundwork for efficient, integrated movement. Fascia, an intricate network of connective tissue, responds dynamically-like a system of sensors and springs-continually adjusting tension and alignment to optimize force distribution. Consider a lifter fine-tuning their grip on the bar: this subtle adjustment can ripple through the fascial web, enhancing power and efficiency beyond what isolated muscle action alone can achieve. The result is emergent stability, fluid coordination, and heightened proprioception, replacing reliance on brute force. This inherent intelligence is what makes the body so adaptable. By embracing this elegant interplay between muscular effort and fascial adaptation, lifters can collaborate with the body’s innate wisdom, achieving sustainable progress and unlocking new levels of performance and resilience.

I got a set of grippers a few days ago and totally threw out my finger backs. My middle and ring finger feel torn in some way. My finger posture must've been off.
I’ve had something similar happen from jujitsu and I think it was a failure to maintain proper lateral tension in my fingers that caused the injury. I really doubt you’re “damaged” in any meaningful way even if you felt pops. My suspicion is that you could probably rehab the issue either by incorporating these cues and training static holds for a bit, or maybe worst case through some sort of finger extensor training (this can be achieved by extending your fingers against a rubber band). You’ll know if I’m right if the resulting pump from either creates a temporary effect of significant pain relief, or the sense that the joint has become “well oiled” and smooth. If that’s the case just gradually progressing should steadily reverse the issue. Hope this helps! Ps: I’m a huge fan of your channel Eli, and I’ve been watching your stuff since I was a kid. It was a wild seeing this notification
So glad I found this, wish I'd learned this years ago, i have small hands and I've dislocated MCPs (that have never fully healed) from rowing with poor grip. This will give me a chance to train harder while rehabbing at the same time. Nice! Thank you. 🙏
Great observations and detail. I think I have naturally been using these techniques without knowing. Even when accelerating as a sprinter, my start was so good people started copying my hand position. I think we are winding up the fascia
Can you please do a video on elbow injuries (tennis elbow and golfer's elbow but not from those sports) when lifting weight and doing pull ups? How to heal from them and what to do to rehabilitate and then prevention. Thank you, love this video.
Chris Drummond (arm wrestler) also showed how training your grip with fingers in the hip hinge position greatly benefit your hand strength. He also talks about training different parts of the thumb muscles too. I been doing yours and his training and my palms have become really round and meaty.
WOW! this immediately added incredible stability to my pullups and dips. I definitely have to build up some endurance bc i can't complete all my reps with this level of hand engagement. I'm sure once I can that I will blow past my precious records!
@@darwinianfitness7311 He's a next level streetlifter who's done stuff such as : -> +105kg pullup -> +170kg dip -> +70kg ring muscle up (unofficial world record) And he's philosophical as hell. He speaks in Russian in his vids, but the en captions get the point across, alongside the fact that his insta posts are in english. Highly recommend you check him out :)
I think I've been intuitively doing some of this as I prefer a so-called suicide grip on pullups. I like the idea of comparing the knuckles to the hips. I might get a tattoo of butt cheeks on the back of my hands, so I never forget
Weirdly enough I don’t feel the difference when going into a throwing position but I also played baseball for a large portion of my life so throwing comes really natural to me along with tight shoulders
Best of luck! I find it very useful to practice these grip cues on your own wrist so you can feel the differences and adjust more easily. Done well, the combination of cues should create a pressure between the finger pads and knuckles that is very hard to slip out of

Thanks! Some questions I didn’t even know to ask were answered. Mad respect for the dedication on the natty lifestyle as well.
I’m glad you found it helpful! Thanks for watching
Why is he in skyrim?
Dark souls was too dangerous
@@darwinianfitness7311 lol
He's an npc
Because he used to be a weak gripper like you, until he took a splinter to his index
@@darwinianfitness7311 sounds like something Patches would say right before suggesting an RDL by this cliff...
Ive been scrolling endlessly watching all ur vids i love ur esoteric info ❤❤ thanks for ur tips they really help
Legit video i can feel the diffrencd in pullups. And i havent even been doing pullups in hella long lol. Can probably do double what i used to i train for it
Great stuff bro
Instructions unclear, I pierced my fingers into a man's chest and pulled out his heart. Running away now.
Something tells me you’ve got the skill set to make this right
Been trying to get better at pullups again and my grip and forearms have been giving out first. Tried this earlier today and I felt the difference
Glad it helped!
I would love to see a video on grip strength for grappling as you described towards the end. Thank you for this great content!! 🙏
You’re very welcome! It’s in the works
First video of yours i've seen. Really great info and analogies. going to give these cues a try next lift
Thanks for watching, I hope they help!
this changes everything. thank you sir!
You’re very welcome!
Wow I hit the jackpot today finding your channel, I can already say this is marvelous stuff! Also I would absolutely want see that bjj video you talked about
It’s coming! Ty for watching broski
Watched this during my rice bucket training. Just used intuition and made some exercises off your advice. Forarms on fire!
Awesome stuff bro
Nice vid, first time seeing your videos. Subbing for the background, video topic, and channel name.
Thanks broski
Nice info, thank you. Also nice seeing Vinland saga, great anime from a great manga.
Holy... I busted out a grip strength trainer that I bought and gave up on ever being able to use, and when I tried this I could click the handles together. You've probably changed my entire life
That’s sick, I’m glad this helped!
Informative AND funny! I'm definitely trying this out in the gym
I'm a rock climber btw and you're onto something I think...
I really appreciate it!
You are the only one who make me watch your videos again and learn new stuff evry time (I wat h limb rotation video more then 10 times ) we need more videos and more shorts man
That’s so cool to hear man, I’m trying to go turbo mode on production but these more schizo videos take a really long time to put together. Hopefully the pace will pick up to be every week or every other week for longer vids
Take your time man your videos equal shit tones of money
Ive had a few injuries and have been going down this path of connections, wait until you try the big toe contracting it changes how you stand and how you pull
Already on it bro, there’s probably going to be a similar future video on foot engagement in the near future.
Thanks for watching!
@@darwinianfitness7311 thats great, incredible how complex this damn body is isnt it, ill happily return to see what else you come up with, im still learning myself
10:32 my ears immediately caught the song... i listen to this ost way too much
It’s full of straight bangers
This is incredible, total game changer.
Now i know why my extensors are so weak. Thank you so much 🙏
Thank you for watching!
Bro i literally did it while doing the video and i already have an craz pump on it, i will definitely do this more often, thank you
You’re welcome, I’m glad it helped!
That moment when you realize all the little stuff matters
The little stuff often matters the most in very unexpected ways
First time watcher... and instantly subbed! Your insights and demonstrations are game changing...I think, just gotta test it tomorrow. Thanks... and keep it up.
Thank you so much!
The chosen one has revealed his sorcery to us muggles. Great video man.
🧙♂️I appreciate it man!
Growing up as a curious kid and being a writer working out a magic system that uses hands, I was impressed that I had accidentally already figured this stuff out. Definitely an interesting video!
Right in time before starting my pull up journey, thank you
You’re very welcome, best of luck!
Interesting! Subscribed. Nice traps 💪👍
I really appreciate it, thanks!
bro I'm so happy you hit it big with this video. you promised and provided
The idea other people are excited about my success means a lot to me. I really appreciate you bro!
I found you through this video and I'm so glad I did. Also for some reason it never lets me like your videos idk if you disabled this intentionally, but I'm just letting you know.
I don’t think it’s on my end, because others seem to be liking the vid fine, I really appreciate you bringing it up to me though and I’ll definitely look into it.
Thanks so much for the support, and it’s really cool to know you went through my catalog!
@@darwinianfitness7311 Sorry bro youtube was bugging out that day for me.
Nice! Thank you. 🙏
You're very welcome!
I'll take that jiujitsu grip video please.
I do that when on monkey bars, didn't know it actual made me stronger. It just felt better in the back position
Now I know why I could grab a gi so damn hard but had problems with my grip doing lat pulls, thank you man
I’m glad it helped!
this is good video
gave me +5 grip str stacking
I have been doing all my pull movements with fat grips and it has changed every exercise for me
Great observations and detail. I think I have naturally been using these techniques without knowing. Even when accelerating as a sprinter, my start was so good people started copying my hand position. I think we are winding up the fascia
There’s definitely some wonky biomechanics at work. I don’t really understand too good, so me call it muscle magic
Did Japanese martial arts for decades. Weapons training cultivates proper grip method and strength.
Probably the first "instant PR" advice ive seen that is ACTUALLY true (for me)!! Props to you :o
do the BJJ esoteric grip strenght vid!
🫡
incredible awareness of body mechanics DF thanks so much.
I’m glad you like it, thanks for watching!
only three and a half minutes in and just from the cues i can feel a massive difference
Can you please do a video on elbow injuries (tennis elbow and golfer's elbow but not from those sports) when lifting weight and doing pull ups? How to heal from them and what to do to rehabilitate and then prevention. Thank you, love this video.
I’ll definitely put something out eventually but I’m not sure when
Chris Drummond (arm wrestler) also showed how training your grip with fingers in the hip hinge position greatly benefit your hand strength. He also talks about training different parts of the thumb muscles too. I been doing yours and his training and my palms have become really round and meaty.
That’s really sick I’ll check out his stuff, glad you’re seeing progress!
ayyy best aw information channel fr
Is crimping different from cupping? Isn't it all different degrees of finger and wrist strenght?
@@junichiroyamashita yes crimping is mainly finger flexion, cupping is wrist flexion
The pop off video for the channel! LFGGGGGGGG. Here for the ride!
Glad to have you! Thanks for the support bro
nice background lol
WOW! this immediately added incredible stability to my pullups and dips. I definitely have to build up some endurance bc i can't complete all my reps with this level of hand engagement. I'm sure once I can that I will blow past my precious records!
Great to hear! Your hand will get crazy fatigued in weird ways at first but they catch up quick
Skyrim background and hanayama pic? I will believe everything that follows
*SPEECH 100
Your stuff reminds me of the way Artem Shirokov thinks (like the blitzkrieg method when attacking 1RMs)
I’ll check him out, this is the first I’ve heard of him. I’m always excited to learn about other weirdos though!
@@darwinianfitness7311 He's a next level streetlifter who's done stuff such as :
-> +105kg pullup
-> +170kg dip
-> +70kg ring muscle up (unofficial world record)
And he's philosophical as hell. He speaks in Russian in his vids, but the en captions get the point across, alongside the fact that his insta posts are in english. Highly recommend you check him out :)
Will do thanks for the info!
Great video!
Thank you!
Amazing stuff broski
Thanks homie
I think I've been intuitively doing some of this as I prefer a so-called suicide grip on pullups. I like the idea of comparing the knuckles to the hips. I might get a tattoo of butt cheeks on the back of my hands, so I never forget
Thats probably the only good way to remember. And trust me, markers get expensive
Weirdly enough I don’t feel the difference when going into a throwing position but I also played baseball for a large portion of my life so throwing comes really natural to me along with tight shoulders
my hand is sore just after watching this video
Will try to implement this tomorrow
Best of luck! I find it very useful to practice these grip cues on your own wrist so you can feel the differences and adjust more easily.
Done well, the combination of cues should create a pressure between the finger pads and knuckles that is very hard to slip out of
great video man! love me any video discussing the wonders of hand/grip strength
Is a fascinatingly deep subject, thanks for watching!
I NEED the grip fighting meta game video. This is very important to me. I am trying to become a grip bully.
There’s enough demand that I’ll definitely make it, stay tuned for some truly soul crushing grip innovations
Woah my home page is recommending fire your a bjj practitioner that lifts
A rare and violent breed in the gentle art
felt the difference doing weighted pullups today!
Great stuff bro!
The body is magic and needs an instruction manual.
