After Bd3 play c5 with the point of meeting Bxe4 with Qh4+ fork, if dxc5 then Bxc5 is already much better for black, if Qe2 Qb6. Which means cxd4 is coming no matter what. Put the knights on f6 and c6 and Be7 then try to exchange one of the white bishops with your knights before castling to breathe easier.

I bought your course breaking 1500 a couple of days ago and it's one of the best learning ressource i bought so far i really love it ! Keep up the goood work !
Your videos have realled helped me grow! Im hovering between 1430-1500 just defeayed my very first 2000 rated chess master bot and I got a Caro Khan game with white and two brilliant moves with a match rating of 2350!
I'm not sure this is a compliment, but I can almost always see the right move when you pause. Either you're asking pretty simple questions, or I've come a long way from the days when a former rated chess player gave me a dusty cardboard box full of old paperback chess books. It used to drive me crazy when the authors casually made moves as a matter of course, as though they were so obvious as to need no explanation.
I also saw both moves i am only 1500 elo, on the first one i even chose the stockfish move, but then again finding brilliant sacrifices is a lot easier when the video pauses and tells you to look for one, no way I would be playing that in a real game I am just trying to survive and maybe snatch a pawn here and there lol
That probably means you are right around intermediate level, which is the rating that Nelson often teaches to on this channel (beginner and intermediate)
I’m only ELO 800 but I saw both moves. Of course I paused the video and thought about it for a moment, and I would have never found them in a live game, thus why I’m only 800 ELO lol
Rxe5 at the end is brilliant, but maybe worth mentioning that Black could reply with g6. The best reply I have seen then is Rxe7 gxh5 Rd1-d7, and that battery of White rooks on the 7th rank together with his minor pieces should be a deadly problem for Black.
As a regular French player this should come with a warning for White - don't try to follow the same line if Black plays c5 after Bd3 (timestamp 0.59). If you capture my 'free' knight, Qh4+ WILL unstitch you.
Yeah this is how i usually deal with this gambit as well. It’s still tricky even then because you should be careful of castling too quickly, so developing the knights then trying to exchange one of the bishops is the solution.
6:02 Got i! (But since when is a brilliant move not the best move?) I got it because I knew about Popiel--Marco, Monte Carlo, 1902, where Black resigned instead of playing ... Bg1 and winning. 8:08 No, it's the ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOK! (And I got this one, too.)
Actually it’s not really. There’s only 1 detail here that you have to remember, the rest is very intuitive. After Bd3 is played you can play c5 because if Bxe4 there’s Qh4+ to pick up the piece back. Which means cxd4 is coming regardless with easy development.
I have tried the Alapin but I always found opponents played Nd5 -- such an annoying move that attacks out light bishop. I gave up and went back to the normal advance variation Anyway, I like this channel a lot and will subscribe!
Man i love your videos Dont let the bad comments effect you , well we all dont care about them and i know even you dont so ggs You are one of the best teacher's so dont worry
Weird. I looked at both 1 Bb5 (doesn’t work, 1 … Ke7 letting the rook out which stops both the mate threat and 2 Rd8) and 1 Bg6 (same problem, black simply responds with 1 … Ke7.) Then black wants to move Bd7 letting the other rook out and controlling the a4-e8 diagonal. I didn’t see Qe7 but I think black is better off with the king on e7 as it lets the rook on h8 out to play. After … Bd7, black can bring the other rook to d8 and white’s chances of a back-rank mate evaporate like a snowman in he**.
The problem with your idea with Ke7, and so on, is that in chess every player got one move, and they move after each other, so white won't stand there and wait until you develop all your pieces, and only then make their move. The position is in white's favor, and that says the strongest engine of the whole world
Also after your move Ke7 the move Nd4+ simply wins your queen. Nd4 exd4 Rhe1+ if you move your king, it's simply checkmate, if you don't sack your queen. For example: Kd8 Rxd5 and black must cover the check with their queen, otherwise they get checkmated. The rest I think is not that hard to figure out
bruh 9 hours ago? WHY THE HELL WAS I SO LATE TO THIS VIDEO? I usually thought Nelson uploads his videos in a specific time why but earlier than this! 💀💀
Really nice game - enjoyed it. Buy why do you say “they?” Are you playing more than one person?Grammatically it’s also incorrect, as it’s a pronoun shift.
You're brilliant Nelson. Genuinely. 10/10 for teaching and gentleness and you're funny too.
Fabulous instructive game , thanks Nelson - you really are a natural teacher sharing that game with us !
As someone who often plays the french, i appreciate seeing traps i could fall into!

I especially love sacrifices when the opponent has TWO ways to capture and neither helps them 😅
Gukesh should have watched this video before the wc as he faced the French 3 or 4 times against Ding 😂

I still consider myself a beginner but I got both bg6 and rxe5. I’m feeling quite proud of myself. Watching Nelson is improving my game so much.

@@frankensteintutorial8654 It was over forty years ago, and the books were pretty old even then. I don't even remember any of the titles.

Beautiful stuff brother! Really helpful and concisely explained!!
As a below average enjoyer of BDG, I'm always in search of an interesting response to the transition to French Defense 😁
Nice vid, thanks a lot!
great stuff indead 👍 thanks for sharing this with us

5:46 - what do you mean it wasn't the best move. Does it mean brilliant moves are not necessarily best? 🤔
Brilliant moves are not the best but just a move where you sacrifice material to gain advantage or to carry out a checkmate
6:02 Got i! (But since when is a brilliant move not the best move?)

I appreciate this. I am learning chess. I keep losing to people who are playing the French
Thanks, Nelson. We were commenting about this on your live stream the other day. Can't wait to try it.
Stockfish says Ne4 instead of Bb5 or Bg6
Tough day for the French Defense. lol

how to lose playing the french defense. Don't develop your pieces, also don't castle.
