I think focusing on Catholic and spiritual things is good, just make sure you have a good, deep prayer life, and listening doesn't become a substitute for that. :)
Money and possessing wealth or even great wealth is not bad but the love of money is or attachment to money and material things. Some people are called by God to embrace poverty or not possessing wealth like priests who took the vow of poverty, St. Francis of Assissi among others. But not all people are called by God to embrace poverty. God allowed or even willed others to possess and accumulate great wealth but despite this, they still remained/remain holy. Job, Abraham et al were rich but they remained holy and their great wealth was not able to corrupt their clean souls.
Luke 18:18-25 The will of God for this rich man who obeyed all the 10 commandments is to embrace poverty but he became sad upon hearing the word of Jesus for him because he is attached to his wealth. This constitutes his sin. But Jesus did not demand Zacchaeus to give up all his wealth. The bottom line is we must obey God's will or inspiration to us whether they are the same with others or different from others.
I already said this before that if all people were poor, no one would be able to help the poor, feed the hungry etc. This is why NOT all people are called by God to embrace poverty or to give all their wealth up. If God inspires you to give all your wealth up, you need to obey God.
If your money or wealth affects your relationship with God and your neighbor and makes you sin, it means you have an inordinate love for money and it is your god.
There are 2 kinds of poverty: holy poverty and bad poverty. There are 2 kinds of holy poverty: 1) literal poverty which is practiced by priests who are not allowed by the Church to accumulate wealth and 2) detachment from wealth which means you can possess wealth without being attached to it. You are still living a simple life or not extravagant despite your wealth and you help the poor materially etc. Bad poverty is really bad that God Himself does not will for His people like going hungry or no food to eat, no money for our medical treatment, no money to pay our bills etc.
People need money to survive. Poverty is horrific and miserable. St. Francis very often cried for days on end without ceasing. Neither one of these people is in poverty nor would they choose it. This isn't what Jesus was talking about.
