If NVIDIA didn’t dominate workstations we wouldn’t have $2k graphics card with fake frames as the main selling point. Gaming accounts for max 20% of Nvidias market share these days. Gamers don’t even matter to them anymore, so might as well get the most from us LOL.
Ehh im thinking maybe another generation or two for any meaningful competition. the B580 chip itself is still wildly silicon inefficient. Something on the order of 80% less efficient compared to a similarly sized die. The good news is that theres room for growth. However this is on TSMC. i probably will stick with team green but i do really love intel for doing this, because hopefully it will mean that nvidia steps up their game (bc of market share competition)
This is shaping up to be very good. If Intel can take the low end for productivity and AMD can do so for gaming then it can hopefully put enough dent in the hubris of Nvidia to make them give up on consumer grade gaming cards, and stick to AI farms or cause them to drop prices and release something sensible.
People are upset because the performance drops when paired with slower CPUs, but I think it’s like the early days of GPUs. Back then, a simple driver update could significantly boost your video card’s performance, and I think something similar could happen here.
yea.. one or two more generations and they might actually be worth buying. currently, the compatibility issues are still a major dealbreaker, as are the performance issues caused by intel fixing a lot of their hardware problems in the drivers, resulting in significantly higher CPU load than with AMD or nV cards.
interesting. my first gcard was an intel 2mb i740. and I needed it for my cgi work station build with ~100mbs of ram (which was insane in 1998). and now intel gfx is coming back and targeting exactly the same market…
Especially if they don't lock the "gaming" cards out of her workstation features like Nvidia does with there GeForce and what ever they are calling the quadro cards now
For what I can speculate with intel, that graphics card will cost 6000 dolars. They usualy first make a good product and use its fame to sell the next one for way more money
Not because they're in the competence means they're competent. 50 series has 4:2:2 hardware encoding and decoding, if intel can't compete with that they're DOA, like they gaudi AI accelerators, IBM announced that they bpught a lot of those cards and a few days later they also announced that they were going to make an aliance with AWS to use their gpu's, so I'm 85% sure those battlemage gpu's are a flop
I think Nvidia is trying to monopolize before Intel can improve to be a good competitor. I'm hoping Intel does do good. I want multiple options and a nice competitive market to help keep GPU prices down.
my b580 is basicly a paperweight to me... ryzen 7 3700x and such horrible overhead that most games perform a good chunk worse then my rtx 2070 and escape from tarkov is straight up unplayable. as soon as i fire a weapon my framerate goes to less then 10

It’s wild. No, they've fixed that. Almost all old games work fairly well now. I have Arc A750 and tested a lot of stuff, also reported some bugs. They're listening to the community and fixing lots of stuff. Keep in mind AMD and Nvidia had 20 years to build native DX8, 9, 10, 11 support. This is lots and lots of code. Intel released focused on DX12 and relying on the Windows built-in DX9 in 12 translator, which was not that good and they've actually pushed microsoft to fix it. Now they're building their own retro api handlers. : ))) You can also try DXVK and it works very well in some games, doubling or tripling the performance. Games like Serious Sam 3 run on native 4K at maximum settings with 100 fps. So, i think it's fine.
