How to install VirtualBox Guest Additions on Kali Linux

The new Kali Linux is out now. But VirtualBox Guest Additions software is not working properly after installation. So this post shows the step by step procedure on how to install it properly.
Step 1. Install required packages.
Before installing VirtualBox Guest Additions on Kali Linux we need to install some required packages. So open the terminal and run the following command.
sudo apt install linux-headers-$(uname -r) build-essential dkms
Step 2. Install Guest Additions using virtual box.
In order To install VirtualBox Guest Additions on Kali Linux virtual machine, Got to VirtualBox - select the Devices from VirtualBox host application menu - click Insert Guest Additions CD image.
Step 3.
cp /media/cd-rom/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run / root /
chmod 755 /root/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
cd / root
./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
Step 5. Start Kali Linux virtual machine and check if copy and paste works.

for anyone having a black screen after log-in, i gave it more video memory (32) and it worked for me.

You might also have to go into your PC's BIOS settings to enable virtualization (this will require you to restart your computer but there are plenty of videos on how to access BIOS settings)

5.5.0-kali2-amd64. Please install them and execute
/sbin/rcvboxadd setup

the commands are different on the screen vs the description box... you should pay more attention to the details

Sir when i click on "Insert Guest Additions CD image.." then Error is in screen like "Unable to Insert the virtual optical disk c:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VBoxGuestAdditions.iso into the machine kali.".....pls give me answer to solve this Error
I had the same earlier - I ignored that error message and went to Desktop - the CD icon and files were there. It will tell you that the CD drive is unmounted - just right click and mount. The rest of the procedure worked perfectly.

Probably a dumb question, but How do I find the file? I go into the directory of my desktop (Where its located) and its not there in the console even though I can plainly see it there
somehow when I restarted my kali updated to be a little different and now I just have a desktop with no top or bottom menu? and when I open a file that's on my desktop there's no exit, maximize, or minimize button, I have to go to File > Close. Very annoying I don't know what I did wrong???

It you are getting error of vboxclient. The go to settings------display-----graphic controller------VBoxSVGA

I don't understand, the procedure was successful but nothing change in my display when i restart!
The procedure worked on the laptop but locked up my desktop. I have been trying to fix the graphics problem for days and so far no solution. I guess I will have to reinstall Kali Linux for the 5th time on my PC. Not sure how to fix the graphics problem.

I have been trying to fix this for over an hour with no success..also my TAB auto fill doesnt work either... everything went exactly as the video did , when i restarted the VM , i did a test like you did .. however mine still didnt work. *shrugs*

its a lenghty process bro try installing the entire os again this might help you I was facing same issue with old kali so I installed new kali linux and got everything right on track

You're running an old verison on Kali, update it by
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
restart and folow the steps again
