I love trying new versions of apps. I am one of those who tried, honestly tried, for a couple of weeks and had to switch back. I can get used to the UI but I was having trouble with functionality. My biggest complaint was I couldn’t right click an attachment copy/paste into a folder or another email. I couldn’t drag a file from an email. I couldn’t drag an email to my desktop (to later forward as an attachment). This was a couple of months ago so I don’t know if any of that has been addressed or if I just couldn’t figure it out. Great video. I WANT to love it.
I had this trouble, too, until I figured out that you can "save as" the e-mail itself or just the document (with the download button). The file comes up in the right-hand corner, and you can drag and drop it anywhere you like.
@@processspumparab5068 I've turned it back on and I'm really trying to make this work. One thing I do a lot is copy/paste attachments from 1 email into another. Looks like this isn't available and I have to download and attach rather than just keeping it within Outlook.
New Outlook is getting there, but a show stopper for me is that shared mailboxes are not (yet) supported. A major irritation is the handling of attachments in incoming mails: The only options available are to save an attachment file to OneDrive or to download the file. Darag and drop and copy->paste are not available option.
Was just saying the same not getting access to my shared mailboxes makes it a no and headache for me very versus enjoying all the new functionality and tools
Scott thanks for sharing these tips. I switched to New Outlook and my calendar items disappeared. Where are the File, Send/Receive, Folder functions? Please, advise.
I organize my emails in folders by project and there is a setting in the original Outlook desktop that when you reply to an email it will put it in the folder that you sent it from. How do you do this in the New Outlook?
Thank you for the video. There is a lot of difference between de "Rules feature" in the current Outlook and the new one. Do you know if Microsoft is going to reduce those differnces ?
I'm actually still underwhelmed by the new Outlook. Yeah, it has some new features, but from what I can see, there won't be any VBA integration like with the client version. Plus, no more .pst files. For those of us who use VBA to automate routines between applications (and have built custom VBA Outlook macros for clients), we appear to be screwed. And without .pst files, there's no offline backup or archiving capability. The only saving grace will be whether Microsoft continues to provide and support the Outlook client. I have no use for the new Outlook.
Is it possible that Power Automate could handle some of this or it has to be client based for local application access? I can see this being problematic as it’s essentially just a portal to the web Outlook on desktop.
@@kandmlane5097 It may be possible to some degree, but some of my current macros do a lot of gruntwork saving and manipulating attachments on user's local machine, so I'll have to see what Power Automate can do in that regard. It just ticks me off that something that's been supported by Microsoft for decades and could still do so if they wanted to may be going away.
@@kandmlane5097 I believe you are correct about it being a portal to the web version. That would explain why there are missing functions. It isn't really an app, it's just a link that masquerades as an app.

Hello, I hope everything is well. I have a question about the new Outlook app. Is there any way to back up emails, like creating PST or OST files? Thank you for your help!
ok, 0:19 I had to stop. I wasn't overwhelmed by the new features, I was underwhelmed and stupified by the lack of old features they left out: can't favorite your shared inboxes, can't use shared mailbox categories anymore (only have your personal ones available), can't copy a calendar event and paste it, NO GRAY mode (white is too white and black is too hard to read contrast with letters), GRAY is the mid-ground and they got rid of it), the list goes on...
This was a great summary Scott. I had not realized a couple of points you made which clarified an issue I had using the New Outlook. I was looking in the wrong place. I use the New Outlook all the time now and am encouraging all of our leadership/supervisor teams to begin using it as it is going to be going away (allegedly) this Fall. Thanks again.
How do we save attachments from emails? I find that I have to download them and then go and manually save them in a different location. Also keyboard shortcuts don't seem to work stop. I used to use them in the past to categorise my mails and meetings.
Heyy !, So i actually wanted some help with the new outlook which is recently launched. Now in the old or the regular outlook whenever we had any emails with attachments, double clicking on them could open the attachments in your desktop ms office word or excel or ppt. But with this new Outlook, it only allows you to save the document first and then open in the desktop apps. If not saved it redirects to onedrive and then opens the document in a browser. This issue has been there since the start. Now i have a MS 365 subscription in my MS Office and i use multiple accounts but since i have a 365 subscription i should be able to open the attachments in desktop apps, but there is an issue where if i open any attachment from my licensed account it allows me, but in the same outlook if i go to another account (you can add multiple accounts but can have same license) it doesnt open in the desktop apps. I am attaching a few screenshots which might help you out understand the problem. So i want to know if there is an option to open all attachments in desktop apps as the old outlook used to

Support for PST. Identified as something it will support (future) doesn’t now. Support for Public folders. (Work around issued from Microsoft). Either do x y and z. So you can make it a favorite. Then still not same. Or. Stick with old Outlook. Deal killers. If these are not addressed. I don’t care. Don’t need want or benefit from an Outlook lite.

I used to be able to copy and paste a word document and, using 'Keep source formatting,' simply past a complete piece of work into an email, I can't do that now, the pictures don't come across, even with HTML selected. Scott, Somehow my outlook email was switched from the old to the new and it does not have a toggle to switch back. I have been working with my IT department to try and have it switched back to the old version because I am having issues using the "new" group set up. I am unable to click and drag an email from my inbox to the group it corresponds with. I teach multiple classes at a community college and like to keep all correspondence for a period of time and since this switch, I have been unable to do this. I have looked on line and watched numerous videos and yours is the only one that has come close to my issue. Do you have or know of a specific video that can assist me with this situation since my IT department does not have clue? One last thing, I am the only one in my department that has experienced this change. Everyone else still has their same email. Thanks for your time.

Question: Is there a way to set up an automatic reply or forward once you have color categorized an email.? For example, if I categorize an email BLUE it will automatically forward to a specific email - can we do this?
Thanks Scott - great news about integrations. Interested in the functionality of creating tasks from emails - so not sure this is the right video to comment on but... Is it possible to create a task straight into a premium plan in Planner. I cant seem to move or copy private tasks to a premium plan - I can do so to basic plans. From this recording it looks like the functionality goes straight to ToDo but in the interests of collaboration, I'd like to take out the long-hand copy/paste to a premium plan task. Information on if /when this might be possible is hard to find right now - any help appreciated.
You have WAY more settings and options than I do. For example, I have no option to categorize emails. I can't see Todo or add it to the sidebar. I can't change density. What am I missing here? I don't even have an option to ad apps. I'd love to be able to get ToDo integrated. I have a 365 subscription. Thanks!

I find pros and cons to it. I find it is a pain to attach emails as attachments to other emails. (not forward). Also saving as a file into a folder in windows explorer is a nightmare. I do like the conversation thread and how you can go through the conversation to find information.
Not really sure why this version got pushed to customers. Company I work for just telling every customer trying to use this to switch to thunderbird. It just wont "sync". IMAP just isn't working we have no work around besides telling them to go with someone else.
Hi I do not work (retired), the main feature I use in the Classic MS Outlook is the Calendar for all my daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly appointments (I cannot function without my calendar - also, the other feature I use is Contacts So, teams, emails etc. are not important. But I use emails sometimes but mostly I use Gmail. I did switch to the new outlook, but I did not like it - so many features of the calendar are missing. I switched back to the classic outlook. My question is when I am forced to use the new outlook, are all my appointments / reminders will transfer over, also the customized quick access bar will exist?? Currently my outlook (MS office 365) is linked to iCloud for windows, So I have access to my calendar on my iPhone, my laptop and Desktop which helps me to add or update any appointment in any of the 3 that I use at home or if I am out and add new appointment on my iPhone - would this feature will exist ? Is the "Edit Message" option available in Microsoft 365 New Outlook? It used to be found under the Move Tab. I used this all the time to make notes within emails and I can't find this option in the New Outlook. Thank you!
I figured out the answer to my question. I have to switch to the Classic Ribbon. I then added the More [Move Groups] item under All Commands to my Quick Access Toolbar. Now the Action button is available with a drop-down to Edit Message. Wish this could be added to the Move Tab in New Outlook.
Broski, looking to simply move folders up/down my list on the left hand side. Some important folders were moved down to the bottom of my list. Anyone have a tip?
The visual changes and integration with other apps are positives for me, but here is what is preventing me to change: 1 - Templates. ON the old version I could have templates with subject, to:, cc: and attachments. On the new version I can only have a template for the email body. 2 - Coversations VS Individual emails. Onthe old version I can have this applied by folder. I like to have my main inbox with individual emails but most folders in coversation view so emails are kept to together. On the new Outlook this seems to be possible to apply only to all the emails and not per folder.
Our company has a large legacy of .pst archives that need to be available for reading. Microsoft kept promising to provide support, and it kept slipping, now reduced to possibly some time in the future. This is typical of MS projects - they start as ambitious, then the regular staff culling happens, then the feature set gets wound back, and it's released with known bugs that never get addressed.
Very helpful indeed. Thanks. The pity is that there were several glitches in the new Outlook which distracted from getting to grips with its capabilities. One such glitch remains, which is the persistence of read emails re-appearing as unread when the program re-opens: this only happens with some emails which makes it more puzzling. As you say at the start of your video, people have been switching back and forth between the old and new Outlooks: I've finally settled on the new as the old Outlook has developed glitches of its own - maybe Microsoft's way of forcing migration.
Looks loike there are missing actions in Quick Steps. I used to have a meesage as part of the actions. Looks like this is now missing. Is this the case??

I couldn’t drag an email to my desktop (to later forward as an attachment). This was a couple of months ago so I don’t know if any of that has been addressed or if I just couldn’t figure it out. Great video. I WANT to love it.
I was the same as you. Lack of basic function that older clients have meant my time with new outlook was short lived.
@@processspumparab5068 Yes, you can also turn left by turning to the right 3 times.
Essential it will handle rules for imap accounts
Missing too many features I use regularly. Tried for a day and switched back.
Being able to easily export an entire Mailbox including Contacts and Calendars into one file is one of the Greatest Features of Outlook...
@@kandmlane5097 I believe you are correct about it being a portal to the web version. That would explain why there are missing functions. It isn't really an app, it's just a link that masquerades as an app.
Hi Scott, thanks for the video.Question how would you see Addon-s like teams etc I am asking because check Com ins and VSTO installation so enabled or disabled andons is there a way to use plugins at all here ?
There are so many of these videos but this was the first one that was actually useful! Very clear and very practical - many thanks!
Your very welcome 😀
Hello,
I hope everything is well. I have a question about the new Outlook app. Is there any way to back up emails, like creating PST or OST files?
Thank you for your help!
Hey i am not being able synchronize my IMAP/POP email on the new outlook.
Do youy have any suggestions for that ?
ok, 0:19 I had to stop.
I like the new Outlook, but am disappointed that many features are not available for imap accounts. How long will this continue?
This was a great summary Scott. I had not realized a couple of points you made which clarified an issue I had using the New Outlook. I was looking in the wrong place. I use the New Outlook all the time now and am encouraging all of our leadership/supervisor teams to begin using it as it is going to be going away (allegedly) this Fall. Thanks again.
Thanks for your kind feedback 😁👍
Can you transfer .pst folders setup previously under old version
No
How do we save attachments from emails? I find that I have to download them and then go and manually save them in a different location.
Also keyboard shortcuts don't seem to work stop. I used to use them in the past to categorise my mails and meetings.
I haven't been motivated to try new Outlook before, but this overview has given me reasons for taking a look at it. Thanks
Heyy !,
So i actually wanted some help with the new outlook which is recently launched.
So i want to know if there is an option to open all attachments in desktop apps as the old outlook used to
Hello, could you please create a new video explaining the correct way to dragging a dropping attachments, I can’t drop files directly to SharePoint or another location in file explorer app
Yes!!! Great point
When I was working for a local authority we used outlook. I used to get outlook to sort my emails. For instance anything from someone outside of the LA I’d get it to put in one folder. Any emails from my boss went into another folder. Can that still be done? I can’t see how.
As far as I understand, this is the "Free" slimmed down version of the paid Outlook 2021, 2019, 365 etc. I've only briefly tried it, can it import existing .pst files and fully support pop and/or imap ?
Many thanks for your kind sharing this, but how do I put in color for Unread mail in New Outlook in Window 11?
Biggest issue I've found so far is Mailto: buttons in PDF's don't work in New Outlook.
If i add 10 emails in outlook new version then i can not export mails to take backup can you suggest me what to do?
Thank you for your video, do you guys know if "Quick parts" is available is this version? I used to use it and it was in the insert tab when writing a new email but I cant find it now... Help pls
Missing too many features….. disappointed
Compared to legacy outlook or something else? I’m happy with the new Outlook for the improvements over legacy.
They finally got the rules added back in which I must have.
List them as not missing anything
Drag and drop a file to desktop to name just one
Support for PST. Identified as something it will support (future) doesn’t now.
Support for Public folders. (Work around issued from Microsoft). Either do x y and z. So you can make it a favorite. Then still not same. Or. Stick with old Outlook.
Deal killers. If these are not addressed. I don’t care.
Don’t need want or benefit from an Outlook lite.
It's been a while, but I believe customized formatting.
hi great video thanks. Do you know if its possible to move the side vertical taskbar to a horizontal location along the bottom?? Thanks
Hello, question please. Is there a "keep source source formatting" in this version?
Hi Scott I think that you have saved my sanity!! Helpful information with a good delivery, thank you!
As a 70 plus year old dyslectic crumbly who only uses the email package to send simple emails with a few images copied over from a Word document, I don't like the new package. (I don't have 365) I like to work in Word as the spelling/grammar there is a huge help for folks like me. I have two problems, in the old system I could see all incoming emails for the three separate email accounts that we have, which was great, I can't do that now, can that be changed without having to select them one after the other? I used to be able to copy and paste a word document and, using 'Keep source formatting,' simply past a complete piece of work into an email, I can't do that now, the pictures don't come across, even with HTML selected. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you so very much. Kind regards . . . Andy
Everytime I try to use the new version, it opens on my browser. Is there a way to use it off-line?
I found this video to be very helpful. I learn visually and seeing the process of how to open tabs was helpful for me tremendously. I will refer back to this video as I practice improving my skills. Thank you so much.
Full of bugs! Keeps launching extra copies, mail you have read (gmail) goes back to unread, deleted mail returns, Sent items are later found in the drafts folder... And you get ads.
not able to get the teams app in new outlook. How to join team meeting only via MS Teams app and how to create MS teams meetings in new outlook. Want to add the MS teams option in new outlook so that i can create the MS teams meetings as well as i can join the MS teams meetings by clicking link in outlook and join the teams app
For the life of me I've been trying to find "Rules" in the new Outlook. I've expanded the ribbon but it's the basic one in the beginning of your video but around 5:22 your ribbon is much more detailed with other functions including "Rules". I looked everywhere on how to add this but can't seem to find it. Any advice?
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!!!
When will Microsoft learn?
All other software moves forward, must Microsoft now leave things for years unchanged - I don't think so, we would not be here where we are today of things did not change often.
@@synthwave7But this wasn't a move forward. It's backwards. Now it's an unstable platform missing features. Nothing of value was added. I work in IT and supporting this new version has been a nightmare.
@@bigmacdaddy1234 You can bet Microsoft has capitulated to serving up your data to the government and making it a bit more easier. All emails are intercepted and reviewed by the government for over 30 years. I personally knew a few of the contractors that wrote 'key word' programs to search for specific words at an Army base in Arizona.
Unfortunately in Big Companies, the Incompetent Clowns in Middle Management have to try and Justify their Existence by trying to fix stuff that's not broken...
Are they crazy?!!!! just switched back to the old outlook and autocorrect spell check works great! But with the new version it just underlines misspellings in red - can't find ANY info on how to enable autosuggestion or autocorrect and if right click only offered options for formatting the fonts.
Do I need to try the new outlook? What happens if I leave that switched off? Will I be given no choice in future? Thank you for the very helpful video.
Good video. As a problem, i see many tools of outlook do not work when your email it is not an outlook account; I beleive the cassic or old version is still better
How the hell do I back up my emails?? I can't find the "file" button to get into the settings like before...
The new version of Outlook lacks some features present in the old one.
Where can I see the trust center option in the new outlook?
Thanks
I would like to know how to do automatic responses?
Great video, thank you.
I need your help please. How do i transfer emails from one email to another in the new outlook?
Thanks for the tutorial. Question... why the options on the ribbon are different in my outlook? Seen this many times... Ex: the "Quick steps" never show in mine, and is something I use a lot! Anyone knows?
No way to save emails as .msg file
How can I migrate my inbox folders to the new outlook ? I spend years organizing my e-mails into each folder
how do you see inboxes from several emails in a unified view on new outlook? cannot find this feature
Hi Scott, thank you for the video.
I have been finding it very challenging to add personalised domains email accounts to Outlook. Has this feature been discontinued and must users sign up to Microsoft 365 Business?
Hi, you video is very interesting, but I do, not have teams meeting button on event page. How to include teams option on events. thanks
Hello how can i set that i can see all inboxes at once, now i must look one by one inbox
Excellent tutorial video on the new productivity features in the new Outlook. I'll be integrating several of these tips into my daily workflow. Much appreciated, Scott.
Question: Is there a way to set up an automatic reply or forward once you have color categorized an email.? For example, if I categorize an email BLUE it will automatically forward to a specific email - can we do this?
Thank you for the informative video! A quick question: How do you translate email into the new Outlook?
Thanks Scott - great news about integrations. Interested in the functionality of creating tasks from emails - so not sure this is the right video to comment on but... Is it possible to create a task straight into a premium plan in Planner. I cant seem to move or copy private tasks to a premium plan - I can do so to basic plans. From this recording it looks like the functionality goes straight to ToDo but in the interests of collaboration, I'd like to take out the long-hand copy/paste to a premium plan task. Information on if /when this might be possible is hard to find right now - any help appreciated.
HI, Does outlook has the unified email option? I cannot find one.
You have WAY more settings and options than I do. For example, I have no option to categorize emails. I can't see Todo or add it to the sidebar. I can't change density. What am I missing here? I don't even have an option to ad apps. I'd love to be able to get ToDo integrated. I have a 365 subscription. Thanks!
I have the same issue. Did you find a solution?
@@edwengler529 nope. I moved to eM Client. I find myself primarily using gmail still in multiple browser windows anyway. eM works well though. I was having issues with outlook not updating calendar events correctly among other bugs and this seems solid so far.
@@edwengler529 unfortunately my solution was switching to eM Client after having this version of Outlook mess up my shared calendar 3 times
Unfortunately, I was unable to see what you were doing on the monitor due to the white background. Due to my eyesight restrictions I have to use dark mode. Do you think your users would’ve checked to you doing so?
What about add-ins? This "new" outlook will break half of the programs I use at work without add-in support.
HI Scott, great channel. I have a small question, in the old outlook I like to go to "day view" and press shift to pick multiple days to view on the calendar. For some reason it does not let me do this in the new version. Am I right, or am I missing something. Thank you for the video
How do I copy multiple files which are attached to an email and paste them to a local folder on my PC? It seems that you can only copy and paste (or drag) one at a time.
JUL 6, 2024 --- Tengo que usar esta version - sin embargo tengo respaldos de la version anterior - quiero importar todo esa informacion pero aqui no pude ver esa presentacion - la tienes disponible ?
Thanks. Helped a lot to make New Outlook easier to use.
Glad it helped! 😄
Can i use quickparts in the new version of outlook? I cant seem to find this function to save me time from typing the same thing over and over again
I was all set to change over until I discovered you cannot use Proton Mail via Proton Bridge with the new Outlook. 😞
Hello. May I ask how did u have “QUICK STEPS” in the ribbon above.
I dont have Quick Steps in the NEW OUTLOOK.
They said it was removed, but was it really removed or it just need some activation in the setting?
How can I export my calendar from the new default calendar app in Windows 11 to an external folder?
How do I forward my own meeting to new attendees in this version of outlook?
The "send to OneNote" function is horrible (compared to the old version). That is the only reason why I havent switched.
This product is not outlook - it's just a web app. Calling it outlook is a crime. It's more like Mail than outlook.
And a very bad web app, useless
I am still waiting for conditional formatting to be available for inbox and calendar.
What happened to the Quick Parts? I use that feature ALL THE TIME. It is crucial to my productivity.
Great video, but when I set up a meeting and have the teams tab on, no teams meeting link gets sent. Am I missing something????
Hi scott I dont have the option ofr block or ignore how do I get these back please
Hi how can I dragged the emails to excel. This is different from the classic hope you can help
Thank you for the video. Could you please talk about the Sharepoint access trough the new Outlook. Many thanks.
Hi
I do not work (retired), the main feature I use in the Classic MS Outlook is the Calendar for all my daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly appointments (I cannot function without my calendar - also, the other feature I use is Contacts
So, teams, emails etc. are not important.

Lots of people have tried it and switched back. Remember the new coke disaster in the 1980’s? Maybe this is the same!
The visual changes and integration with other apps are positives for me, but here is what is preventing me to change:
1 - Templates.
Teams meeting is not showing up in my outlook for windows , it shows skype , how to integrate teams inatead ? Thanks
how do you recall in this new outlook?
Looks loike there are missing actions in Quick Steps. I used to have a meesage as part of the actions. Looks like this is now missing. Is this the case??
Scott, how many accounts can we add into outlook app? lets say if i have different domain based emails, is it possible or is there any restriction? can we also add gmail accounts along with microsoft 365 or pop3 accounts?
