@@mike_qbik thank you for your comments. That is still a work in process. I’m an extensive note taker at all my meetings and phone calls. Sort of like keeping a diary. I then record any action items or waiting for into my GTD system. My hardest part is the collecting of all the incoming info- meetings, phone calls, hall conversations, email, text, etc. I haven’t figured it out yet
Thanks for your comment. I like to periodically review my system to see what is still working and change what is not. For instance, I used to track my exercising right on my planner calendar. Upon review I found that it would work better if I tracked it in a separate binder instead, which I then switched to.

Using the FC 2PPD with the Daily Record of Events page helps me keep all my notes together and then index it all. Not a perfect system but rather a work in progress. Thanks
@@organizersteve9848 Hi Steve - yes I use a weekly master list which is in the front of my planner. Each day has what needs to be done to keep our home clean and orderly and running smoothly. Appointments and other functions are filled in the monthly calendar as well as the daily. I haven't really needed to use the Events page for notes since I don't work. For medical information on my husband, I keep a separate ongoing steno pad. The book The Advanced Day Planner User's Guide by Hyrum W. Smith is excellent in giving many different ideas to customize your needs. I found mine used on Amazon. Hope you have a happy new year!

Good system. Your system is so streamlined that the redundancies are minimal and serve a purpose. Coincidentally this year I realized that I needed much the same set up - to see my weeks in list format as well as with time blocking, plus a whole day. I also keep a running task list and a list of projects. So we are kind of on the same page. Thanks so much for sharing your system and process.
@@organizersteve9848 I just never stop! I am always processing information into the appropriate “bucket”. I do try to take an overview periodically and Sunday afternoon is devoted to reassessing the big picture and sketching in the week in blocks. I also use pencil. I do keep separate binders with reference data and goals and projects. Wish I actually had a system but as long as I’m touching all bases weekly it works.

Over the years have tried different methods but eventually get back to Franklin. Have tried Bullet Journaling but seemed too unstructured for me. But a lot of people find value in it.

Great planner! You really inspired me to get a larger ring planner compared to my A6 format, which is great for portability but is too small for actual planning and writing. BTW, do you record you random thoughts, ideas in this planner as well? How do you keep your new thoughts on-the-go?
Hi Steve, great video thank you for doing it. I just thought I'd mention that if you press down on the metal pieces simultaneously at the end of the rings they will pop open, rather than pulling them apart like you did in the video, which could damage the rings and therefore gave me anxiety.

He has a lot of downtime, he's probably self employed. I never get along with that type - my own family included. They speak their own language. They're in their own world - king of the pond. They have complete control of their time and think everyone else answers to no one. Franklin Covey is very anal.if I see anyone using a daily system I won't speak. Weekly/monthly is logical. If you have 4 kids and a partner, how do you have that much presence of mind to focus only on yourself with these teeny tiny details? They sit down and "do their planning" on a specific night, like Sunday night. They go to another room close the door, undisturbed, while their spouse handles everything else. I was married to this type. They are "special" and they have "important business." Don't bother them with anything more than one thing at a time because it will interfere with their planning.
Nice video, but I'm not really seeing the Franklin Planner influence here. You have some basic GTD mixed with some values you've established. Arguably the core of Franklin planner would be 7 Habits and/or 10 Natural laws, roles & goals, daily compass, along with of course their Franklin Planner system. GTD in it's basic form includes contexts, next actions, and connected projects.
Good question. I started with Franklin Quest in 1996 when Hyrum Smith ran the company with a focus on daily planning. When Hyrum joined with Stephen Covey, you saw a transition to more weekly planner. The actual Covey planner was only offered in weekly format. Then GTD came around with a simple next action focus based on context which FC didn’t have. My Franklin planner influence is that I use only one planner, all scraps of paper are eliminated with everything going into that one planner. Tasks needing done that day are listed on that day’s FC daily page (not listed in the actual calendar). @Next Action items farther out go in a tabbed section of planner segmented by context. Another helpful Franklin influence is my separate tab for financial activity- stock trades, bill paying, bank balances. While GTD handles the tasks of paying a bill by its due date (place on calendar) it fails from a reference standpoint of recording confirmation numbers, amount paid, etc. I use the Franklin system for that.
Your video is made for a planner that sits on your desk, you very quickly pushed aside the one that's always with you. You seem to be self employed, you have a very specific system that a working person would never have that much time for. A person who is someone who is required to be at another site like a school or nursing home, restaurant or retail setting has to travel to get there, maybe has to feed their kids and get them to school before they even get to a place they have to punch in on a time clock does planning on the fly. My struggle as someone who does everything is I must have whatever planner I'm using WITH ME AT ALL TIMES because there's always some detail I need like an email, password, phone number, time of appointment, names. If I left it on my desk at home I would never have what I need with me. So people who have a big heavy planner that stays home, and a separate planner they keep with them is not anyone I want tips from because why duplicate everything, that's a waste of my time. Does your wifey do everything else? You make a highly detailed plan, you make a NOTE to make a reservation for date night. In the time it took you to plan that, I would have made that call while in the car warming the engine in the morning or in bumper to bumper on the commute home. I usually have a list pad paper in my planner (which MUST BE LIGHT AND STAYS IN MY BAG) slid under 2 coated jumbo paper clips with ALL my to-dos fit in at lunch, commute, while waiting at a Dr appointment, while eyeballing my daily/weekly schedule. You need to speak to people who do not have the free downtime you have. Working women get home and the second shift begins - get dinner on the table, homework, baths, laundry because they don't have the luxury of thinking as much as you do about what needs to be done. Get real Steve. I overheard a female student shopping at Barnes and Noble for a planner with her mom. Her mom said look at this one (large, flowers, gold decorations.) The girl said "no. I want it to fit in my purse." Because, we could be anywhere - out for pizza. If you run into someone who can help you, your planner is no good at home or in some tote bag not with you.

Despite what you assume, I travel a lot between 3 offices and some air travel (4 trips coming in the next 5 weeks). This system has evolved for me since 1996 with various improvements. My current system as of June 2, 2024, is almost entirely one A5 Malden planner. The Pocket “satellite” was dropped last year. Too much time to move things back and forth. Also, I travel with my messenger bag that carries my laptop and got use to hauling the A5 planner in the bag as well. I’ve tried smaller sizes (FC Compact, and FF Personal) but they don’t work for me as one main planner. My planner is my life control center tracking work, personal, family (wife, 4 adult children, 3 grand children) all are tracked together in my one system. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.
@@toffifee92 technically, the Franklin covey classic size pages are different than the Filofax A5 size. But the difference is minimal. The bigger difference is in the punched hole layout which means the FC pages will not fit the FF as is. I simply re punch the holes with my FF hole punch and they fit. Some people comment on the resulting “Swiss cheese” look, but it doesn’t bother me. Thanks for asking.

Exactly, it does seem like extra work. I did use print outs for a while. Here is why I don’t use print outs any more:1) my master calendar uses different colors (work, personal, wide, kids) and I don’t have a color printer at home so I found myself coloring by hand anyhow. Now I use a Jetstream 4+1 multi pen. 2) during the planning phase I mark in travel time on paper. I found marking travel time on the master calendar became real crowded since one appt would have three entries (to, appt, from). 3)often times when a meeting is cancelled or changed I like to note who cancelled and why. Easy to do on paper, but not electronically. Perhaps I’ll go back to print outs sometime. Is that what you do? Thanks
@@stephenkristan6008, I use my electronic calendar primarily as my future log... So at the beginning of the month, I print the weekly and the daily sheets. Then I make any additions with pen. ... To avoid 3 entries for every appointment, I just make the appointment an hour longer (30 minutes to and 30 minutes from). And I notate the appointment time in the description so I know that I've remembered to add the travel time... (In my calendar it has one line for the description and one line for destination, but I notate any notes in the destination line since I have the address in my contacts). .... I print out the sheets instead of buying expensive planner sheets. ... It works for me. Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵. 😷

You are right. I use a variety of mechanical pencils and lead sizes, but I prefer the larger lead sizes of 0.9 and 1.1

What size is this Filofax?
My main planner, the larger one in the video, is an A5 size. I’m plan to use Franklin Covey Classic size day on two pages inserts for 2021.
