The air strikes made it a bit controversial but needed and a smart move. It was able to not only split the enemy ranks but separate them but also kept them out in the open as no one wants to sit in a building being blown up.

Just a small correction: one of Israel’s most decorated officers, Emanuel Moreno, was killed in the raid. Nevertheless, it was indeed a remarkable achievement
He didn't die in this raid but a little bit later in the war

They died from the wounds they received when they were kidnapped. Their bodies were returned for a prisoner swap with Hezbollah
Their bodies were returned to Israel in 2008 as part of a prisoner exchange deal.
Actually, till the very last moment when the coffins were returned by Hizballah, it was unknown to everyone whether they were alive or not.

The two Israeli soldiers, Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, weren't in the hospital. Their bodies were returned to Israel on July 16, 2008, as part of a prisoner exchange between Israel and Hezbollah. According to Israeli officials, an examination of the bodies suggested that the soldiers were killed during their abduction.
Even tho in general we was in pretty bad shape, so the operation had kinda iconic meaning just to keep our pants on in media

What happened to the captured soldiers?
They were killed when they were taken
They had been killed in the initial attack. Israel didn't know this because they would not risk other soldiers for bodies even tho the soldiers themselves would be more than willing to fight for them.Their bodies were held and only released after the war. There is a similar situation today in Gaza with Hamas holding the body of at least one soldier that was killed during the 2014 war. And still holding at least 3 Israeli citizens that had mental disabilities that crossed into Gaza.
