*Disclaimer*
Please be aware that this tutorial involves using a sharp blade. If you're under the age of 18 please seek assistance from an adult when using sharp tools like the rotary cutter. Thanks :)
***************
Tools needed:
1. Your leather strip. I get mine from defcon4 on IRA forums. Link here: imperialroyalarms.com/thread/6...
2. Contact adhesive. I use this: www.amazon.co.uk/Multi-Purpos...
3. A rotary cutter. You can use something like this: www.amazon.co.uk/DAFA-Soft-Ro...
4. A fine tip pen/pencil
5. A ruler
Hope this helps!
Thanks
Khal
You could also scratch the area of you lightsaber that your going to wrap to give the contact cement more to "grip" into this helps with bonding.
Applied leather without scratching up the hilt first, leather moved back and forth and I couldn't get it to sit still properly. Won't make that mistake again.
@@JediGuy scratch it how? Deep cuts or just chuck it around a bit?
@@davidrex7027 I used sand paper, and just sanded a bit all around. Works beautifully. :)
@@JediGuy sorry to keep bothering you but what grit sand paper? Low grit?
@@davidrex7027 I'm pretty sure it's high-grit sandpaper. Something like 220.
One thing I would do different - the mark you made for your cut line was right at the spot the metal disappeared on your wraparound. When you were applying it, you lost your "lip" from your leather overlap at the end. To preserve the consistency of that lip, the mark should have been made just a little past the exact point of contract. It still looks nice, it just looked a little different at the very end of the wrap, due to marking in a spot that eliminates the overlap at the end.
Thanks for this tutorial - just got my first custom hilt and want to do a leather wrap .. perfect source of info
I love the sleak design of the sabers
Your final wrap with the adhesive was in the opposite direction than your 'test' wraps
Great work on this video. Many thanks
Helped me out a ton. Thank you
Just needed this. Very helpful. Thank you.
Hey Khal, thank you for this vid mate! It was really helpful!
that was awsome. thank you for making this video for us sir
Great tutorial! Many thanks for doing this. :D
I never want to remove for the lightsaber so super glue is just fine? Red leather on a black prodigy saber
I plan on leather wrapping an MHSsaber with the activation box within the area to be covered by leather. Are there any special considerations to take when doing that or will it be fine to just wrap over the holes and cut out where the box will screw in?
my grandmother was a seamstress. she had a rotary cutter, totally sliced my finger pushing it around like a pizza cutter.
Wil Stallmann what?
I would love to buy from your store, there is a bit of a problem. I can't get intk your store for some reason?
can this be used on faom or will the adhesive eat away at the foam ?
thank u for the video will be using this to do my bike handle bars! : )
Can you do a leather handle with the wrap? i would like to customize my saber like that
Would this work with cloth? I wanna do a really beat up look and I love cloth handles
Most likely would
You could also use hockey tape
Should work the same, but you may want to use something like quilt batting underneath to create a cushion. I'm working on a lightsaber for my father that has native american style beadwork on the hilt
Tried to hide that loose bit at the top, it's not flush so that's just going to peel straight off through use.
I really like this idea! Question though: what thickness was your leather?
Hi Khal. Thanks so much for this tutorial! Quick question: what kind/brand of adhesive did you use for this wrapping? Thanks!
Great video thank you👍
cant find the hilt on your website
Thank You :)
this is like lightsaber bob ross
Is it possible to apply the glue on the other side of the leather?.
Lol nice my dog also scratches at the door when she wants to come in, at the most inconvenient times😅
Your link to the leather isn't working. Can you give me one that works? I would like to order some leather.
DarthKorrin I got a dark red leather & it looks amazing, thanks for the link
@@DarthKorrin thanks!
Nice video men...
I used bicycle handlebar tape on mine.
Awesome video! Just wondering where u could get leather from if not online. Thanks!
i went to fabricland and got some suede for under 5 bucks. not cut of course but it was cheap i was even thinking of dying some to match the blade colours
Using this tutorial for my sword
I'm not wrapping a Light saber, Just an axe, but this is what I'm looking to do.
Where can I get one of these empty hilts?
Any where that sells sabers
which saber is this?
doesn't seem to be on the shop
Minnesota I think it’s the ultra sabres acolyte?
"Genuine" leather is actually the lowest grade of leather, unless you count "bonded" leather (scraps glued together).
Is it possible to use electric tape to 'leather wrap' a saber? I don't feel glueing leather to my expensive saber.
Freddy The Fisherman Yes.
Vaeton V. Verandus maybe try heat shrink tubing
A double sided 3 m tape
Hockey tape!!! Wide range of colours and patterns, too!
Can you wet the leather, to shrink over tight?
Finnaly i can get a better grip
I’m having trouble finding a contact adhesive in the US, would you happen to know if they go under some other name here (I fucking hate our variant of English XD)
Yes it is known as either Spirit glue or rubber cement
"If your under eighteen you obviously don't want to use a sharp blade like this." Me forging knives and swords at the age of 15
This is fine UNLESS your lightsaber is even slightly uneven. Like mine. Unless the designs is flat you cant do it.
I know this old but do you mean that the surface of the lightsaber needs to be completely smooth? Like there can't be any nooks or grooves or anything to help the grip with just the hilt?
I can't find it on the site for shit lol
Пока так сделаешь - всё нахрен в клею перепачкаешь
Lol rotary tools look like pizza cutters, why not use a pizza cutter? 😂
Wtf? XD blades forbidden under 18? XD
Lol, is this a real thing?
Michael Von Stukahausen Nah, really good CGI though
Native Indians are so laughing at you. You did a poor job. Sorry, but I was not impressed.
Robert Cornelius Lol, OK bro...
@@KRSabers , redeem yourself and do it over.
@@robertcornelius3514 LOL, you think I'm gonna re-do something I did 4 years ago as a helpful tutorial for the saber community? All because you think Native Indians are laughing at this? No.
You didn't even explain your point as to why you think it was a 'poor job'. How about YOU make your own tutorial? Show me and others how it is done.
I couldn't care less whether you are impressed or not. I don't post tutorial videos to try and impress people. I post them to maybe offer some help if people are confused how to do it...you need to re-evaluate how you offer constructive criticism. Otherwise, go back to being a part of everything that's wrong with the internet.
In the meantime, I'll wait for you to reply here with a link to your tutorial video on how to apply leather wrap..
@@KRSabers , you're right. I'll never call you to build a house. LOL
KR Sabers I dunno, I thought it looked pretty great.
Ah thanks so much for this nerd saber video know I know how to tie off the knot 🪢 if only the camera was two inches higher
