What an incredibly beautiful song. Just amazing. "Tell him what we said 'bout 'Paint It Black...' "
This song has meant so much to me over the years…. I was just playing my own version and suddenly broke down crying remembering my brother Frank and I listening to it years ago in our teens. He just passed away Easter 2023. So much depth and heart in this simple ballad. Thank you Big Star
May he RIP
this is not therapy. this is a youtube comment section, sir
I like how this song gradually speeds up as it plays. Wonder if it was subconscious or done deliberately, to show the feeling of desperation and anxiety one feels when experiencing a first love?
I once lived a girl that I couldn’t tell her about my feeling. Right when I was about to tell her about my feeling, I saw her on the seat of an another boy’s motorcycle. I was listening to this song the whole time, when I felt in love with her. Thanks Alex Chilton and Chris Bell for this masterpiece. Rest In Peace. ⭐️🌟
That 70s show brought me here. Such a beautiful and simple song. It's really sad that old music is being overlooked for new music.
People always appreciate what has come before, you just have to listen enough. Elliott Smith did a great cover of this song over 20 years after its release. Things take time
Me too 🫶🏻
Love .
Not by me, brother. Big Star are one of the best bands of alternative music.
I was introduced to Big Star by the Replacements song Alex Chilton. Thanks, Replacements!
[Verse 1]
Won't you let me walk you home from school?
Won't you let me meet you at the pool?
Maybe Friday I can get tickets for the dance
And I'll take you, ooh-hoo
[Verse 2]
Won't you tell your dad get off my back?
Tell him what we said about "Paint It, Black"
Rock and roll is here to stay, come inside, well, it's okay
And I'll shake you, ooh-hoo
[Verse 3]
Won't you tell me what you're thinking of?
Would you be an outlaw for my love?
If it's so, then let me know, if it's no, then I can go
I won't make you, ooh-hoo
💘💘💘
So simple and basic lyrics but still so moving. Especially if you are old, it takes you back to an age of innocence and purity. Magic.
Makes me so nostalgic for that time. The melody is so beautiful and melancholy.
Why is this song so f#¢king addictive???

Thank you That 70s show 🙌❤️🔥
My favorite show !
Thanks to the movie Stargirl, so I discovered this little big masterpiece
2024 & 965 "likes"- huh, I hope the world listens more. To songs like this.
Pure magic! Thankyou John Fry for letting those 4 have the artistic freedom and studio time to make a simple masterpiece. It still sounds awesome to this day...as I know it always will. I am proud to say this song still soothes me into a gentle melloncolly state of mind. Thankyou Big Star for everything! A appreciative Memphis fan from way back. Long live Overton Square and Ardent! 😉
What a masterpiece!
wonderful --carries you back to a nicer time
We just did a fundraiser in town at the Senior center and the old swimming pool that has now been buried made me think of this song and it may seem crazy but I have now listened to this song over 15 times and plan on at least 15 more loloololoolololol
I've covered this a thousand times
What a beautiful song.....
Welcome back Ya'll. I just listened to this on vinyl last weekend. Thank you so much for posting.
New Big Star uploads! Loved this album for a while!
My wife and I made a wedding CD to give all those that attended our wedding. This was the only song that I insisted be included. The rest was her.
We sure don't have songs like this today 😇 I love this song 💜
we didn't have songs this good even then, nobody heard these guys at the time
Great documentary on Big Star called “Nothing Can Hurt Me”
Great
Fresh. Always Beautifully Performed. I wonder who is still in the group. Too good to be simply pop timeless.
Only one guy left now,sad ,bit like the Doors and the Monkees.
@@starcloud4959very sad 😔 😥
@@starcloud4959 Two guys from the Doors, the drummer John Densmore and the guitar player Robbie Krieger. You're welcome

The saddest happy song of all time
those strings though
"I never traveled so far..."
26 comments in seven likes on one of the greatest songs of all time. Although, they are referred to as the greatest band nobody ever heard. Which is a damn shame.

Dad gum it, wow!

Alex Chilton wrote and sung this song but claimed that he never even really liked it
