My parents arrived from Ukraine in France when they were 7 and 15 years old. They spoke French perfectly, just like native speakers, without any accent. My parents and grandparents spoke Ukrainian with their family or with the diaspora.
I discovered French when I went to school at the age of 6. My French is perfect. I still need to study to improve my Ukrainian. My grandchildren speak French and English perfectly (3, 8, 10 years old), ... and also Swedish very well (they live in Sweden). The brain is a mysterious thing !...

Моя мама приїхала до Німеччини з України у 28 років, ніколи не вивчивши німецької. Але вона вивчила німецькою дуже дуже швидко після тим, що приїхала. Через мабуть 7-8 років, вона вже розмовляла як носій німецької. Вона розмовляє без акценту, і ніхто не помічає, що вона народилася не тут, поки вона сама не скаже. Тому я думаю, що це можливо, але треба мати якнайменше трохи мовний талант

Мені було дуже цікаво! Дякую!!! На мою думку це важливо мати гарну вимову але найголовніше це розуміння, ти маєш рацію!🎉🎉🎉 Також було б цікаво поговорити про чарівне вікно вивчення мови у дітей...ми ще про це поговоримо😊
я зараз взяв курси англійської і намагась її вивчити. надіюсь я спрогресую в цьому питанні. моя ціль - це спокійно споживати контент англійською (відео, фільми, ігри, книги). це для мене є ознака того, що вивчив мову на достатньомоу рівні. я з дитинства говорю українською і знаю російську так, що можу споживати будь-який контент, будт-якої складності цією мовою, хоча ніколи її не вчив як ту ж українську, чи ось зараз вивчаю англійську. і цей факт про мою російську мене дуже дратує, бо англійську і українську я типу вчив в школі, і оцінки за англійську я отримував вищі ніж за українську, але українська це мова яку я розумію повністю і без будь-яких проблем, а англійська на нульовому рівні.
тому для мене носій мови - це та людина, яка без проблем і будь-якого дискомфорту може споживати контент і розуміти 99% того що сказано, 1% залишаємо на якісь нові слова значення яких в контексті легко читаються. це те куди я хочу прийти. і чесно кажучи мені важко оцінити це в якихось рівнях як от A1-A2...C1-C2, тому що я не знаю по схожим критеріям українську, чи російську. умовний диктант, або будь-який тест на визначення рівня буде написаний максимально фігово, в цьому я впевнений. але при цьому я спокійно можу висловлювати свою думку чи споживати контент без будь-якого дискомфорту, розуміти будь-якого співрозмовника. напевно ваш рівень знання мов - це скоріше про якусь грамотність ніж про володіння мовою, її розуміння, що теж є частиною визначення грамотності, але в одночас схоже може існувати окремо.
I would say that the level of an average native speaker is somewhere between B2 or C1. So it’s possible to reach a level that is even higher than a native speaker. This is strictly when we are speaking about pure linguistic proficiency and not the cultural aspects of the language.

You can NEVER be a native speaker, in any foreign language, but you can be more than that!
Let me explain:
You can reach the level of a native speaker even higher than that. Let me put it this way, the definition of a native speaker is very ambiguous. A native speaker of any given language could have the knowledge of, say, C1, and you can learn that language and be able to use it at a C2 level, which is called a proficiency level, or a proficient user. So even more than a native speaker.
So for example, I can even reach the level of proficiency (C2) in Ukrainian and know more vocabulary items and more complex grammar structures than a native Ukrainian speaker, even including a native-like pronunciation, but I can NEVER be a native speaker, in any language.
Native speakers have experienced and have learned the language in a way that I will never be able to experience. For instance, the first time one falls in love and expresses that love in their first language is something that a non-native speaker can never experience. Language is tied to our feelings, social norms, and cultures and we will never experience these firsthand.
This is not a bad thing, one can be even more than a native speaker, in terms of knowledge and language usage. And that is why we can never be a native speaker of any language unless we have experienced it from the very first days of our lives.

So if someone falls in love in a way it never happened before and this is in the language he/she learns, that brings him/her closer to the native? How about that? :)
I believe one's experiences with the language can determine language proficiency level more than the number of years studying it or the age when one started it.
I'm in a country that's not my birth country for exactly 30 years. Studied her and work here. Consider that only in the last 12 years I have started feeling more as a fully proficient. And for that, is not the language knowledge alone, it's the cultural component that helps with understanding the underlying meaning - jargon, humor, cultural references and historical quirks of the language.
I have known people in the country for longer, but who haven't been able to grasp it if they weren't given the chance at cultural assimilation. Conversely, people who have been in the country for under ten years but had a chance to be part of the local community absolutely sound and act like natives
@@juliaistominaoden5801 I agree, but they still haven’t experienced everything that a native has experienced from the very beginning of childhood.
@@juliaistominaoden5801 Native speaker is really an ambiguous term, we can look at it from different perspectives. From a solely language-wise standpoint, nonnatives can reach a level higher than natives if they try.
From a cultural and emotion-related perspective, i mean the way they perceived the language, I think it’s impossible to be like a native speaker.
That’s why natives of a language “acquire” a language but nonnatives “learn” it. That, exactly, is what my point is all about.
Мені зрозуміло чому людина хоче покращити свою вимову щоб звучати майже як рідномовець. Це пише людина яка щойно знайшла собі українського логопеда щоб позбутися зі своєї української мови деяких польських звичок 😁
