The only sign given in scripture of believers recieving the Holy Spirit and what happened the moment that they recieved is speaking in " tongues".( Acts ch.2,10,and ch.19). Speaking in " tongues" is actually speaking in one spiritual language. The gift of speaking in "tongues" is a different operation than the first sign and the private prayer language in that not every believer has it. It works together with a believer that has the gift of interpretation of " tongues" so that all in a church assembly may be edified.The same is true of all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The Word says that the private prayer language edifies the individual believer( 1Cor.14:4).
