I found this guy literally about six hours ago and I have binged on his music in rapture ever since. Never knew he existed, and my God its fantastic! Thanks!
my bubble of cognitive dissonance, rather than bein' ruptur'd, is only bein' reinforc'd, and somehow i don't care, it's like, the music is groovy, right? it's like, hey, who's doin' that, who did that, what-did-you-do, i can't quite understand what-they-do!
@Deep Sea Creature Its funny, but I listen to one of his albums every day. I absolutely love his music! Thanks!
I am amazed by the way the music is layered, and the generell loftiness of it all. I feel you, its been the same for me when I discovered this. "Cave City" has to be one of the tightest song I´ve heard for a while.
@@apexapey Great comment. I am still listening after two years! Even better now, thanks!
I know its been a long time, but did you ever find this album in spotify or apple music?
Cave City has that "gangsters paradise" riff that make it a "Goblins Paradise"
THATS WHY I FEEL NOSTALGIC 😂
Imagine if you were about to fight a standard lvl 1 goblin in an RPG and 19:56 starts playing
run a dnd camp with that in mind
jojo bossfight
Even better.... 39:26
I have loved the Rainbow Goblins for years now. My late friend and I purchased an original vinyl from Japan together since we loved it so much. I'm only finding out NOW that there's a sequel?!?! I gotta listen
I'm floored, that was incredible. I love the remix of classic songs from Rainbow Goblins mixed in with new compositions all in a much harder and darker mood. Wish he could've listened to this with me
What is the sequel?
This is the sequel
The Rainbow Goblins (1981) was the original and this, The White Goblin (1997) is the "sequel"
*Complete Lyrics:*
*Heaven And Earth:*
0:18 - 1:01 Everybody knows the story of the seven Rainbow Goblins. The terrible end they came to, and the way the flowers saved the rainbow at the last minute from being destroyed. But very few know what happened afterwards. The rainbow shone in the sky more beautiful than ever. Birds and beetles, butterflies and insects excelled one another in colored splendor. The land and water animals observed their newly flying friends with wonder and pleasure. The rainbow established a unity between Heaven and Earth.
*Who?:*
5:38 - 6:03 Only one strange little creature disturbed this harmony, as he watched the colorful scene with the keenest interest.
There was whispering, “What’s he up to?”
“What’s he brooding about so fiercely in the midst of this joy?”
"Who is he?”
Suddenly, a voice cried out, “Oh, horrors! It’s the White Rainbow Goblin!”
8:12 - 8:43 “The white one, yes! The white one!” shouted all the creatures, filled with fear. They had recognized him, and were petrified by the sight of him. The white one, the banished one, had turned up again. A long time ago, his seven brothers had exiled him because he was the eighth goblin. He was expelled from the Rainbow Goblins' clan, and his name was never spoken again.
*Away:*
11:44 - 11:54 Dragged into the far north, he lived alone in crevasses in the eternal ice, and snow was his only nourishment.
13:50 - 13:59 Dragged into the far north, he lived alone in crevasses in the eternal ice, and snow was his only nourishment.
*Goblin’s Theme:*
16:25 - 16:44 At some point, the White Goblin learned of his brothers' ignominious death, and immediately headed South. Driven by his longing to finally see the colored world.
17:08 - 17:25 And soon, he was reveling in the dark red of the roses; the delicate blue of the forget-me-nots. The White Goblin greedily coddled them, and sucked every color he could reach.
*Cave City:*
21:04 - 21:24 Now he was determined to set his plan in motion. He tore himself away from the ecstasy of colors, and betook himself to the deepest cleft in the rocks with the concealed entrance to the middle of the Earth. There, he descended into the Cave City, where the Cave Goblins lived in harmony and peace. They had never ventured up to the surface of the Earth; had never seen the light of day. Their eyelids were closed, and their life was a happy one.
23:26 - 24:02 The White Goblin began to tell them about the world. He spoke of plants and animals. He described nature in all its colors, and helped them to imagine how wonderful these tasted. They could become rich, unimaginably rich, in colors, and this nourishment awaited them if only they would decide, finally, to leave their night world. This made them curious, and they began to open their eyes. They didn’t want to live in darkness anymore. They wanted to go up out of the womb of the Earth.
*March For Colors:*
25:55 - 26:32 And so, the White Goblin led the impatient band of goblins into the light of day. There, the whole of nature lay before them, with all its precious colors; nourishment in abundance for the starving Cave Goblins. It was a feast that looked as if it would never end. Everything was available to them without effort. Their joy gave them new energy, and they quickly multiplied. They soon became a busy people, building great cities, and conducting brisk trade in the colors they extracted from nature. They were engulfed by wealth, and their cities became gigantic.
*Monochrome:*
29:29 - 29:49 But nature increasingly lost its colors, and signs of illness were evident in many places. This did not disturb the goblins at all; on the contrary, it was a challenge to them to invent tools that could provide them with more colors, and they built machines that would advance them more swiftly in the earth, water, and air.
32:22 - 32:34 The more they indulged their greed for colors, the paler and more sickly nature became. It had turned grey and monochrome, and one day it simply ceased to exist.
*Smoke:*
34:51 - 35:19 Although the Cave Goblins had sucked all the colors out of nature, their thirst seemed unquenchable. Now they built huge plants in order to produce artificial colors. Smoke poured out of the factory chambers and darkened the sky. Sun was no longer able to penetrate the smoke, and it was always dusk. Corrosive vapors lay over the land. The air became stuffed. Breathing-more difficult.
36:08 - 36:27 At first, the White Goblin had watched the activities of the Cave Goblins with astonishment, but soon, with increasing alarm. When he advised moderation, they laughed. They and their sickness drove him back to his glacial world.
*Died Out:*
41:23 - 41:37 The White Goblin made his way again into the heart of the cold, cold world. He sometimes had wild nightmares in which the destructive greed of the Cave Goblins grew beyond measure.
43:06 - 43:36 In the meantime, in the world of the Cave Goblins, signs of impending cataclysm increased. There were more and more earthquakes, and yet the cities grew without stop; artificial worlds in which many illusions were created to divert attention from the threat of doom. The goblins were possessed and united by pleasure. No one listened to anyone else; feelings of respect and love died out.
*Gray:*
44:47 - 45:09 Only a very few, who managed to save themselves, and now hover between life and death, agreed on the essentials of being. Their life, and the life of their people, unrolled before their eyes again. And suddenly, they understood their connections.
*Into The Sky:*
(Not in the video) 49:06 - 49:32 Their memory of wonderful fragrant nature with all its flourishing colors was reawakened by the bright light: a fountain that shot beams into the sky.
*Morning Of Creation - You Can Never Come To This Place:*
(Vid: 51:07 - 51:16) 56:56 - 57:05 The low hanging clouds dissolved with the singing of birds. The sun broke through, and nature was fragrant.
(Vid: 51:50 - 52:02) 57:39 - 57:50 The world shone in all its colors, and streams of light flooded the land, as in the morning of creation.
Thank you to @Jo-vw1ot and @NAVYMST3R for the majority of the transcript.
I love you
A chilling cautionary tale!
I love how alien and almost lonely the first tracks feel, because that's probably how the white rainbow goblin is feeling right now
Killer album
i like that drum-kit-simulation, righteous, yo~!
the bass and the guitahs, along wit' the righteous drum tracks, remind me of me in better days, jack!
Everyone hating on this album! I get it because you may like the more chill masayoshi but this album is still awesome. It shows what an incredible and versatile musician he is. I agree some of the narration gets a little lost unlike the rainbow goblins, but that is so minor when the music is so major!!! Who cares. It’s giving major 90s prog + west coast rap feels.
Bro I'm pretty sure takanaka's first professional band was a prog rock band
I like how dark and grungy it sounds compared to the rainbow goblins, and it really fits with the story, and its more straightforward criticism of industrialization.
Kind of reminds me of Rayman 2.
Wow what a great connection, I loved that game but the themes of slavery, colonialism and industrialisation VS nature only really make sense now. Man I miss old Ubisoft, and I miss Rayman, or maybe it's nostalgia talking...
Nah Rayman was a dope series, the times have just changed.
Very expressive guitar tones in "Who?" will definitely keep listening.
Dude like, he straight up murdered the guitar in the second song. The rest of the album is him obliterating the remains of the guitar. Just grinding the thing into powder man.
Another great album by Takanaka, Story is top notch, music is, as always, on point. Also, bought a physical copy, and the dude is straight up in a rainbow wizard's outfit, new levels of respect for him
Lyrics for The White Goblin:
Since the audio for the narration was super low I decided to listen through the whole album and type down what was understandable for me so others can experience this album better. The parts that are not understandable, I put underscores. I would like you guys to help me out to fill in the blanks since this is a beautiful album if some parts are incorrectly translated please feel free to correct me on that issue so I can edit it. Please read along and enjoy the experience of The White Goblin.

I have no authority on this just what I think I heard. Didn't go through all of it
My favourite sequel album. Loved Takanaka's exploration of some darker sounding music
COMPLETAMENTE OBCECADA POR ESSE ALBUM
I had only discovered Masayoshi a year ago. I listened to the Rainbow Goblin album I don't know how many times and I just now found out about this album. Plus it had already been out for 3 years! Where have I been 😅
I think this is his most underrated album
I kinda agree but this album is definitly not for everyone
@@Thomatensoepin what sense. too modern or heavy?
@@akafume both but not only that, its a lot different then his normal style of playing
@@Thomatensoep ah i enjoyed it thoroughly and i think thats the reason why
the story in a nutshell.
White goblin, "I want revenge for the death of my 7 asshole brothers, I know, I'll sic the cave goblins on the world!"
cave goblins, "Wow, this is awesome, we're going the exploit the crap out of everything!!!"
Cave goblins go extinct, white goblin gets banished again after suggesting the cave goblins take it easy on the capitalism, and the world is saved by Deus ex Rainbow.
Gray is my favourite song without question. Honestly, that subtle metronome in the background of dying machinery is so gripping as a sound, and the ethereality of the scape of noise is a masterwork.
It's so good
8:30 "they exiled him because he was the eight Goblin" - Me at every Party :D
Banger-Album, love it
Cave city at 21:04 is literally Gangsta's Paradise
I thought it sounded a bit like Backstreet Boys 'Everybody' in parts, with a bit of Carlos Santana-esque guitar playing thrown in, myself. You are right, I say it sounds more so like Gangsta's Paradise, with a bit of Santana, ahaha.
@@computerman789 I just now realized how much everybody and gangsta's paradise sound alike now. Cave city is a bit different from both, I think all three songs just use the same chords.
Gangsta's Paradise is a sample/cover of the Stevie Wonder's "Pastime Paradise". Coolio even used the hook lyrics.
when i notice the first track it's literally a version for the withe goblin of the rainbow goblins
Pure music, cinema what a greatfull album
Thanks for uploading this! This was missing for so long
Goodness wonderful to see this uploaded to youtube finally! I had to seek out a physical copy and import it just to listen in best quality- and now other's can enjoy it too! :D
the stories are always so insightful
Feels like your favorite show finally got a season 2, tbh this is better than the rainbow goblins
Track 3. sounds like taken straight out of a Shin Megami Tensei game and i love it.
i just love Masayoshi Takanaka
Goddamn this album is good. Might be one of the favorites from Takanaka.
I cant believe im only just listening to this album! Every song hits hard like a rock to the face (in a good way). Takanaka has the ability to make his instruments sing.
was not expecting that remix in the intro wow!
God the mix of pink floyde and rough blues just hit so good

Maravilloso álbum. Gracias, algoritmo.
screw you guys I actually like this more than the Rainbow Goblins
Been looking for this for a long time. All I can remember is TAKANAKA and Goblins Songs. Its not in Spotify LP collection of takanaka. Thanks for sharing.
I prefer the Rainbow Goblins for that late 70s/ early 80s aesthetic
Can’t believe they removed into the sky. It’s my favorite masayoshi song of all. Where am I supposed to find it legally. The albums not on iTunes or Spotify, do they expect me do by a disk when I just want that one song and “Who?”

The most steve sound stuff from Masayoshi ever!

rainbow goblin is awesome too !
This album was not what i was expecting. I don't know too much about Takanaka's career after 1983 (Can I Sing? was the most recent album of his that I listened to), so when those drums started hitting on those first few tracks I was kind of shocked. The back beat is pretty contemporary of 90s punk/grunge (dont know which, im not an expert), and I always associated Takanaka with more of a tropical or flamenco vibe. After it grabbed my attention, it left me slightly confused with these first tracks. The drums and instrumental are very intense and foreboding even though I didn't take White to be any sort of real threat in the beginning, and although the drums are kinda cool at times, they're sort of the same for nearly every track making the album feel like it doesn't have too much momentum throughout. These attributes give it less of a "story feel" that the first one had and was quintessential to its excellence. You might say it's unfair to compare this one with The Rainbow Goblins, but it obviously isn't, just in case you thought it was. The album starts and ends with the same main theme as its predecessor and picks up where the other story leaves off. I will say, though, that the album begins to really pick up by Cave City. The drums now make more sense and the tracks become more dissimilar from each other. Overall, a solid album. I'll have to give it a few more listens, though, because it takes like 3 to 4 to begin to understand an album.
P.S. The multiple narrators throws me off and leaves the album with less unity as a result. It's a shame the narrator for The Rainbow Goblins didn't do this one :(
The slow transition away from Prog. I weep
Also, the mixing is poorly done, I can barely hear the narrators over the instrumental at times
@k k Dark ages? I haven't listened to all of his albums, but just listen to nagisa moderato from Traumatic. It was far from a dark age.
I cant find this album on Spotify or apple music, does anyone know why?
same issue
Sadly only Japan release. this and rainbow goblins. Only on UA-cam and physical.
I've seen it uploaded to soundcloud
Straight wack question and the song ain’t even available on this video, but:
In into the sky, is “the fountain that shot beams into the sky” supposed to be the rainbow returning? If not what is it supposed to mean?
Would love to listen but can't the video to play in firefox. wth happened to you mozilla?
This is like Japanese Yes
for a second i could've sworn that there was a sample from gangsta paradise somewhere in there, but i guess that's just similar timbre and color to the chords
Smoke sounds very primus-y lmfao and I know primus did a version of the rainbo gobos not to long ago

A white goblin
Voiceovers :(
the stock nineties sonorities (nasty synth violin, that oompf-chah they used in every single rap song in the whole decade, and so on) are really jarring after comming out a listening from his 70ties/80ties stuff and the narrator's voice is a letdown. it's still played really well, and Tanaka's guitar is the highlight there, but it's a bit of a letdown.
Not quite as good as The Rainbow Goblins in my opinion. But the Rainbow Goblins is legitimately a perfect album, I love every single song on there. The White Goblin has some banger songs like Heaven and Earth and Into the Sky, and I like the grunge tone but much like the White Goblin himself, it lives in the shadow of the Rainbow Goblins.
I'm assuming the guy at the beginning and the end was the same narrator from The Rainbow Goblins, and what I don't understand is why he was only on the first and last track. Dude should have been on every single song. Also no point in having narration if I can't make out what the people are saying lol
@@DaddyDuckTown I guess it's just bad mixing. This albums does not sound as pristine as his other works. I wish somebody could explain why.
@@cantaluri Did he rush it out? Something I noticed is that most of the music sounds very similar, as if the songs were written in a hurry.
@@DaddyDuckTown I thought so as well. Maybe you are into something.
What if I was a bass and you were a guitar and we kissed and from our love was born the most beautiful sound there ever was...
How many edibles were you on when you wrote this comment
@@just-mees None lol, that's just how obsessed I am with this album
@@just-mees 🤣🤣🤣
If they actually played out the entire pieces instead of these stupid fade aways, I'd give this album more props, but the publishers just had to make a lame cut for whatever reason..
I don't particularly like the female narrator, it makes me feel like I am attending pre-school again.
agreed, and her audio quality is poor. Wheres our british friend? :( - great album so far tho
@@hotvision Just as the audio for the other American (sounding) narrator is quite poor as it pertains to the volume, I would have liked to hear the story clearly, but sadly it is obscured by the music.
The last track does have a British (English accent to be precise) narrator, is this our British friend? Could be the same guy, I am not certain.
The music is great but the female voice actor who tells the story could have done a better job, she comes off boring and unenthusiastic. She kind of reminds me of a woman in an adult movie who has to read a few lines.
So prophetic. The rainbow people de-platforming the white guy.
(´ー`*)
boring
Fantastic!
The most steve sound stuff from Masayoshi ever!
