      people clued in hat the only reason why someone would ask you to have kids is the same person who wants labourers fro themselves. Thats why it has the stigma it does. It all boils down to the current dominant system and the current market demanding free inputs, and that always is done through breeding which is tied to keeping people poor too. If we were making babies to improve conditions for oursleves, the average folk, then things could be different. Once theres a system invented that favours the many instead of the few and keeps the many rich instead indefinielty while maintiaining a vibrant and lush planet, then we can start talking about children

    • @magicalfrijoles6766

      More unscientific trash? Your hot take was we need more babies to have bigger armies. In 1940 we had about 2.3B people. You know what the world's problem was? Not enough armies. Yeah, that's it.

    It's the consequence of stagnating real wages and the decrease in economic mobility that has been slowly worsening since the 1970s and is now reaching criticality.

    • @williamquigley852
      @williamquigley852 11 днів тому

      Paradoxically, no. Its the opposite. A well researched area of economics. See section 3:45 of this video clip where Louise references this vary phenomenon. Income growth is inversely correlated with family size. As incomes in a society rise, children per couple decline. Mexico is a striking example. In 1970, median children per women was 6.7. Today it is less than 2.5. As women do better financially, the total cost of having children, particular the opportunity cost of a valuable career increases. Women respond to this cost logically by having fewer children.

    • @blast_processing6577
      @blast_processing6577 11 днів тому

      @@williamquigley852 : It isn't paradoxical at all. In countries like Mexico there was historically little or no government assistance for retirees or the ill, so most people had to have several children to increase the likelihood that there would be someone available to care for them in their times of need. But as their economic situations have improved the need to have children has decreased (and in Mexico's case, the introduction of a mandatory pension plan in *1997* sure helped).
      The situation is different in countries that have had some form of social assistance for the past 100 years or more, eg: the US started a pension plan for veterans in 1890 and it quickly expanded to the rest of the population. In these countries the opposite is happening: Increasingly, to ensure that people can afford some kind of care in their times of need, it's in their best interest to not have children, and both stagnating wages and decreasing economic mobility are a direct cause for this.

      Corporations will do whatever is allowed by law, and sometimes more. The government creates the framework and can change it. Studies show that the best outcome for children is a two parent family. Does the government do everything they can to foster that?

      Atheism has made the western world pathetic. It's so inferior to what it used to be. Our decline is unstoppable and VERY VERY deserved. Once we fall a little further then far more nations will be looking to attack and cause chaos. I refuse to have kids and let them grow up in the moral cesspool of Europe or America. What is funny is that the rest of the world is even worse, but it will tear us to pieces when it gets the chance soon. I for one am glad that judgement is coming for America and Europe. Men have been told that they have no say in reproduction. They have no say before, during or after a child is born.
      This view is backed by social pressure and legislation and the application of family law.
      Men have no say. It’s been that way for thirty years at this point.

If more men actually did do their full equal part and that means the housework, child care, and their part of the relationship things wouldn't be this bad. They tell women to choose better and when we do they complain about this and that. Women are now saying we are done. Listen to them. They aren't kidding.

    Many people have a lot of financial instability, I think she is missing this point. Maybe right now we have enough money, but we have no confidence that we will have enough money in the future to pay for housing and food. So, anyone who actually cares about their future children would be reluctant to have children when they don't feel confident they can feed them and provide shelter for them.
    I think in the past there was a lot more family and societal support and people knew they could count on their parents and friends if something went wrong. Now most of us are just isolated and alone, with nowhere to turn to if life takes a bad turn...

This helped so much, now these type of child care groups run by councils or good will don't exist. Baby daycare is £50-£60 a day now... Tories destroyed these services. There it is, the first mistake you made.😉
      See, you need to understand, that it's *not* _poor_ people in and of itself being the most reproductive. That was actually never really true in the first place_ …
      It's *illiterate¹* people being the most reproductive, since these mostly _just doesn't care_ about their children's future.
      _It's generally not _*_poor_*_ people being the most reproductive, it's _*_illiterate_*_ people making _*_poor_*_ choices (about their future' children), which are the most reproductive!_
      That is, since most *literate¹* and sophisticated¹ people are intellectually sane and sober enough, to avoid children, if they cannot guarantee their own future children some at least decently reasonable upbringing, without being able to get raised in utter poverty. Thus, most sane and sober people avoid kids, as long as they can't avoid a upbringing in poverty.
      ¹I try to expressively avoid the term ›educated‹, since these days it's largely synonyme with !ndoctr!nated.

So we collectively decided to stop and by stop I mean, no more working, playing, socializing, caring about our family even just interacting with each other, let alone actually making babies. I notice it in myself, I just don't care anymore. It's apathy and nihilism. I used to love holidays and look forward to them but now I wonder what's the point? It's actually just another day. 2. People have been given the illusion of the perfect match and infinite options by online dating... Meaning people are staying single for WAY longer.
    3. The death of religion and traditionally held values means that a lot of young people arent overtly taught the value of family.
    4. Young people have been taught to worry about the climate more than anything else, and that more humans = worse climate.

However, the issue is housing costs as a proportion of income... This means that children are proportionally more expensive if you think that more children requires more house space.
      Obviously, we could nip that in the bud and normalise lots of kids sharing bedrooms again, but the combination of expecting a room for each child and the proportionally more expensive housing, is a major factor.

ALL of them have a maximum of 2 now, not because they cannot financially afford more, simply because they don’t want to repeat their childhood of overcrowded household where resources such as love and care are in fact finite.
    Anyone that actually has kids, knows that MEANINGFULLY caring for two is a handful, let alone 4-5. Yes, some people do it, but most prefer quality parenting over quantity. Don’t blame them for that. 🤷‍♀️

We are no longer agrarian societies that require child labor for working the field. Instead of talking about restructuring our systems to accommodate these societal changes, all we do is empty philosophical talk about birth rates.
      Birth rates are as they are - we won’t get back to post-WWII numbers, because we are not post-WWII anymore. There are a lot of arguments that can be made but I think that one underlying, subconscious reason thing that I think may be a contributor, can be found in many animals. When an animal is in a situation where they are not comfortable/insecure or feel threat, this impacts their behaviour and will stop them acting as they would under normal circumstances, affecting things like the desire to procreate etc. This can be seen in many animals that do badly in captivity for example, and even when you look at certain animals which will kill or eat their young if they feel under threat or other situations in which survival instincts kick in. As animals, I think this affects humans also and for many people, this subconscious mechanism is active whether they realise it, or not because of many of the usual arguments, such as high accommodation and housing prices, but it also goes all the way down to things like mental health, low-self image, lack of value/fulfilment in their lives etc - thing that are impacted greatly by our current society and technology such as social media, modern culture etc. I think this leaves people with a poor and insecure mental foundation that absolutely would subconsciously impact how they feel about starting a family, having children, making commitments, and other decisions which require a confident and maturely developed mental state to even begin to consider.

The world's population skyrocketed over the past century not because more babies were born but because more babies live. A woman who gave birth to 10 children 200 years ago might see 2 or 3 make it to adulthood. Today the death of a child is a shocking rarity. I think we forget we are animals as well as humans and these types of trends are probably dictated more by environmental factors that we don't properly understand. Urbanisation could be an issue for example, does it make sense for a species to reproduce in overcrowded conditions? I wonder if we have less control than we think and that what we think are conscious choices are really dictated by larger patterns.
