Can we really call "reigning" a markgraf's (or a count's, or a prince's) ruling of a "country" the size of a big farm? Whose "palace" would not be judged decent to accomodate Louis XIV's horses? Lots of them in this list. The Almanach de Gotha (Gothaischer Hofkalender) did a lot to overevaluate german nobility, but let's not blind ourselves: a squire is not a king, and reign by no means.
It is debatable because the Monarchy of Japan is both constitutional and non-constitutional in nature. By tradition, the non-constitutional aspect, Hirohito was the Emperor, by virtue of direct lineage dating back to antiquity, from 1926 to 1989. However, Japan created some legal complications in 1868 when they added a layer of Constitutionalism with the Meiji Restoration. Technically, the Emperor assumed a new title, Emperor of the Empire of Japan, that had not legally existed before the Constitution of 1868. Internationally, it is this title that Hirohito assumed in 1926, not simply his title of Emperor as per Japanese tradition. Where it gets even more complicated is that in 1947, the Empire of Japan was formally dissolved, its constitution replaced by a new one, and so technically, the Emperor of the Empire of Japan ceased to be, because the state it represented ceased to be. Hirohito assumed a new title, Emperor of the State of Japan, which he held until 1989. Thus, if you count his monarchical title as Emperor per Japanese tradition only, he held that single title for 63 years. However, if you track his titles through the constitutional thrones he sat upon, he only held one title for 21 years and then another for 42 years. However, all that said, it can be argued that because of certain treaties made before the Meiji Restoration of 1868, foreign powers such as China, Britain, and Portugal had formally recognized the title of Emperor (as per Japanese tradition) as a legal entity, and therefore the Constitutional thrones are just legal constructs of little relevance. So Hirohito could be considered to have held three different titles of Emperor: one he held continuously between 1926 and 1989. Another he held only from 1926 to 1947. The last was only from 1947 to 1989. I can see why the channel declined to include him because lawyers just have to ruin everyone's fun.

Can we really call "reigning" a markgraf's (or a count's, or a prince's) ruling of a "country" the size of a big farm? Whose "palace" would not be judged decent to accomodate Louis XIV's horses? You miss one :
85. Hirohito (1901 - 1989), 124th Emperor of Japan, 63 years reigned.
Im sure there is some vampire king who has been on the throne for like 1400 years.
@@3John-Bishop There are some Japanese tales suggesting that the divine Kami that the Imperial Family claims blood lineage to contains both good and evil characteristics, and so that the mortal offspring thus may have more sinister aspects that are carefully hidden. After all, Husband to the Sun Goddess Amaterasu is Tsukuyomi, the God of Night, and he outright murdered another god because he was disgusted by how it produced a gift for a party. Who knows what Hirohito did on a New Moon, when the power of Tsukuyomi was greatest and Amaterasu weakest?
