Thank you for showing and sharing your great gear and clever ideas to save weight using great ideas for doing things more efficiently and lighter. We all learn from others about how to backpack more efficiently
I’m in So Cal and I’ve spent a lot of time on the desert section of the PCT. I’m happy to give you any support along the entire desert section. Let me know how to get in touch and know you have another support line for the first 700 miles. Loves your CDT trip and looking forward to you triple crown triumph. Happy trails
Awesome, thank you Feral!! You got a mention (and cameo) in my previous video, my announcement video. Thanks again for taking the time to sit down with me!!
Right on, great gear review. My first thought was overkill, but the snow is bad this year and your gear makes complete since. That is me arm chairing. Really looking forward to following you again Beats. You got this! And your wife filmed great!! 😊
I'm sure you can handle it and know what you're doing but if I had all that gear I'd have to pull a trailer. LOL!! Of course though I'm 71 and just getting my kicks watching you all have so much fun. Have a great trip. I'll look for your videos.
Excellent approach to the trail this year. Go into it thinking you’ll have to do some light mountaineering and you’ll be good. The snowpacks will be around long into the summer this year.
@@travelinbeat It’ll certainly be an interesting year to do the trail. Wish I was going. I’ll definitely be out and about on some of the sections or in the general area up north. I have a pair of the K-10 hiking crampons as well as the KTS version and they work very well for non-technical use. Now that it looks like most of the storms have passed we’ll be setting out to check out our favorite areas on skis and snowshoes. Good luck to you.
Glad you enjoyed this video! Yeah I decided in the interest of time to skip going into depth about my food in this video. I did cover this topic with much more detail prior to my CDT hike last year, that approx. 2.5min long segment can be found at the link below! ua-cam.com/video/cLO8VbVnBJI/v-deo.htmlm30s
I have an Osprey 65, not light but robust. Bear canisters are like lugging a phone booth around, but they're good for bear and people alike. I found a shemagh is a great, lightweight addition. MSR snowshoes will get you through anything, the heel raise levers saves the achilles on steep ascents. The snow levels are crazy out here. Best of luck. Be safe.
Thank you!! Yeah I've been seeing these shemeghs gaining popularity recently! I'm definitely curious to see what these mountains have in mind for me-- hoping Mr Zeus keeps his lightning bolts sheathed!
Wow, I followed your AT journey in real time then I lost track of you. I just realized you did the CDT and I'm plowing through that journey right now, can't wait to follow your PCT hike. Good luck with your Triple Crown!
Welcome back!! CDT was a JOURNEY and with this INSANE snow in the Sierra this year, it's looking like this Trail will be even wilder!! So glad to have you back and following along! I'd be a terrible UA-camr if I didn't encourage you to hit "Subscribe" and click the notification bell to make sure you don't miss any new content!
looking READY!! nice trick for the pack on the plane. we stuffed ours in duffels it was not the best.. the "gun" to make sure they track it is awesome i love it... so i went up and saw the snow by Kirkwood a couple weeks ago, DEEP/ wow... and i wasnt even in the really deep stuff/// but it is warming up// hoping for the best... passed over the PCT monday thinking about all you hikers and check this out: we got lucky with our yosemite permit this year, we'll be in lyell canyon where the PCT enters yosemite for labor day weekend! .. I am back and forth to the desert often this time of year, hoping i can catch you at the PCT/ CA HWY 58 crossing. crazy winds last weekend it is finally warming up now
I really like the RIdge Merino Soltice Hoodie, the issue has been they sell out fast and are not always available, but there should be a spring run of them soon. Right now they only have one color available, fire red.
Beat, love your detailed gear list. You always think of every little thing. That is such a great idea to pack a starter pistol in with your gear! I never would’ve thought of that, but I think I will probably do that next year when I have to fly to the beginning of the trail too. Wondering if you have a link to that specific pistol and lock box? That would be helpful, thanks!
Thanks!! The pistol is blankgunarmory.com/357-style-revolver-replica-9mm-blank-firing-gun-black/ the case is a Pelican, I can't recall the specific model (bought second hand at a local used-gear store!)
Man you are prepared. Nothing is going to stop you. But I don't know about the starter's pistol keeping your bag safe. Have you ever watched that UA-cam video, United Breaks Guitars? They treat everything like crap.
Very true!! It does pack up smaller that it is laid out for this video, but you're right that at its height I required much more space so I carried the Osprey Aether 85L on this hike
Thanks for the video. Did you ever do one about the DIY pre filter? Looks interesting! You seem well prepared. What are your success parameters for this thru hike? Hike all trail that is open when you get there?
I haven't done a dedicated video about the pre-filter, but I have shown clips of making it: ua-cam.com/video/UicjeE3GxWU/v-deo.htmlm14s ua-cam.com/video/UicjeE3GxWU/v-deo.htmlm57s Regarding parameters for success-- I really don't know... I want to stay safe and enjoy myself. I would love to hike every step and ideally do so in a contiguous, uninterrupted northbound direction. This is probably about it
Oh man, I don't tease about luxury!! That sucker certain won't be carried on trail but will ABSOLUTELY lighten my feet into whatever town(s) I bounce it to!!
Yeah I'm very interested to see whether they'll be helpful. I had then in the San Juan's but reports from fellow hikers were that they wouldn't have helped so I sent them home and was happy to discover that I agreed with those reports.
Beat, noticed you didn't finish the P.C.T. with the x mid pro. What was the deal breaker for you?? I own a duplex , one of the originals and a H.M.G. ultimid 2 . I've been researching the the x mid pro for awhile and any input would be great. Great vedios !!!
Thabjs so much!! Yes after 1200mi or so I switched back to my Duplex. There were many things I found frustrating about the Durston and so I ditched it. Just posted a video that goes way into why, etc. Good catch, good question, hope this helps!
@travelinbeat just saw why you ditched the tent video , well done! Very professional and detailed. It's amazing how opinions on the x-mid differ so much. Thanks keep up the great work!
'bout 100 in-- videos will start tomorrow on a 1 week delay! Sorry for the wait, just had to build up a stock of videos so I can keep them on a daily release schedule!
Thanks for sharing all the details of your pack. Looking forward to following your journey.
Thanks, Barbara!!

Yes it seems likely that some this winter '22-'23 snow may be around in the melt of '24!!

You should have no problem with all that gear you are brining. Have a great adventure, I look forward to following along.

Great gear selections! You're well prepared! I'm really excited for and looking forward to your videos! Be safe and good luck.
Thanks Becky!! So thrilled that you'll be joining again!
Good luck, looking forward to watching.

Excited to follow you live this year, rather than watching through the archives! What are you carrying for foodstuff and snacks?

Yeah they're totally on my radar-- don't know about that color though, don't trust it won't throw off my GoPro's color balance!!
Great choices in gear. I payed special attention to your clavicle bone protection. I may copy. Look forward to following you.
Hoping it work!! Thanks, Kimberly!!

Haha I haven't seen that channel but luckily I'm not flying United and ot seemed to work this time at least!! Thanks for the encouragement!!
There is absolutely NO WAY that small Zpack Arc Haul backpack could pack all this stuff.
Very true!! It does pack up smaller that it is laid out for this video, but you're right that at its height I required much more space so I carried the Osprey Aether 85L on this hike
Smart move. UL packs like the Zpacks one shouldn't carry more than 30 pounds MAX. @@travelinbeat
Enjoy the Padres game. Petco Park is absolutely gorgeous.

The massager has to be an April Fools joke!

Two Nitecore 10.000 is lighter than one Nitecore 20.000
I do the same
Nice!
I don't think that the snowshoes will be needed, it's to late in the season for powder snow in the Sierra.
Even if it’s not powder or soft, it’ll be easier in sections that have been post-holed to death by goofballs that didn’t use snowshoes.
