  • In this video, I start and finish a paint-by-number kit called Lakeside Morning by Dimensions Paint Works. This one is time lapse only with no chatting about technique, as I felt there wasn't anything new to mention. Thanks for watching! Enjoy!
    I purchase most of my paint by numbers locally or on Amazon.

    This is lovely, Calico! So I saw that you mixed two shades for the non-numbered areas. That's new to me. I finished one PBN but there were no directions on that step, so I assumed it was black. This inspired me to look into Dimensions Paint Works. Thanks!

    I have done this exact same painting and now I’ve completed 12. I’ve given 5 away to family & display the rest. They are very relaxing to do and look forward to painting every evening. I normally paint for about 2 hours per day. Depending on which one I average 50 hours per painting. I do put at least 2-3 coats of paint on each color. I find one coat just isn’t enough.

    How is it that you are getting it to blend together? I have tried to zigzag and that sometimes work my huge problem are faces. I love doing the Marie Antoinnette portraits and it looks horrible. One of them. Looks like a preschooler did it. Number one ,gray is not my choice of color that I would’ve chosen for the face but that is what it came with. It did not have a lot of detail but the picture did I’m not quite understanding how to actually blend that and it’s an actual fight every single time and sometimes I just go to another painting and don’t even finish it because I’m so agitated. Could you do a video on this please? And thank you in advance.

    • @calico_whimsy
      @calico_whimsy  Рік тому

      I'm so sorry you are having such a rough time with it. I feel that I'm not much of an expert with blending and no experience beyond the few PBN kits I did. That being said, when I had to do blending for the first time, I had to search youtube for some techniques. I found a channel that really helped and I'll try to find it. Also, I do talk a little bit about my own struggles with blending in the video I did with the Eagle. If you go to my playlists, you should find the video under Paint by Numbers. (if I link it, youtube will remove my comment) I'll try to find the other channel as well.

      Get some real brushes (I like Sable hair or Taklon, but I'm not an artist)... and learn how to keep them CLEAN and 'pointed' (if they're a point brush), like it's your sole mission in life. If you don't clean a brush properly, immediately after use, you might as well throw it in the trash. I like to swish them around in a small cup of paint thinner or whatever appropriate solvent (refreshing with clean solvent as necessary) until they're clean, then dip them in solvent, and 'point' them on a paper towel (you just roll the brush, as you drag it across the paper towl, so the tip forms a point). You'll figure it out, with common sense.
      Probably the easiest way, is to go down to your local art store and buy a small selection of different types of the same brush size/shape and see what you actually like using the best.

      I'm so sorry you had a bad experience. I have heard there are a lot of bad ones out there. If you can find one by Dimensions Paintworks, they have all been great quality for me so far.

      This is exactly what we fixed when we created our kits. We use thinner paint that spreads better and still has better coverage. Plus we color coded our outlines to match the paint color and eliminated the number so you don't even need to worry about covering it up in the first place!
