In this clip, Chaka Khan talked with Luenell about all the unreleased music she has that was recorded, including an album with Prince that isn't out. Chaka Khan also recounted the drug scene during the 1970s/80s, specifically in Oakland. She reflected on the other artists who were engaged in the drug scene such as Charlie Wilson and Natalie Cole. However, Chaka said despite her dabbling in drugs, she never felt it affected her voice.
I am quite sure Vlad nor Chaka will see this message. But she said something that really inspired. “Nothing can touch your calling”. I am in a dark place, but those words jump out like a flashlight in a dark tunnel. Thank you.

Witney Houston's voice did change. It may have been her last tour where the majority of concert attendees said her voice was so bad that they wanted their money back. Most left before the concert was over. Although it's very noticeable on her last CD, I still consider her (voice) a national treasure.👌🏽💖

I have the one album she did on Prince's label; Come to my House. Solid, beautiful album. What led me to that album is the song she did for the Down In The Delta soundtrack which was a remake of a song Prince did first. Absolutely beautiful song. There was another song from that album that got video treatment, it's called "This Crazy Life of Mine". It hits me in the heart everytime.

Not to be harsh, but every person I ve met who is in their 60’s who used drugs ( during 1970’s -80’s) sounds like this interview. Most people in recovery are more enthusiastic about their sobriety, but something about her generation is that they seem to be more happy reminiscing about party days than any other time and are stuck in the70’s party in their heads. Even if they’ve lost friends, family, money , health due to the partying. While the rest of the world is talking about their kids, accomplishments, life and celebrating milestones, they always go back to the cocaine, club days. It hard not to relapse when you’re chasing both a physical high and memory high. She’s laughing about getting high with three people who are all DEAD, all related to complications of drug use. Natalie Cole, Prince and Rick James. She’s one of the few who has survived but I don’t think she understands she’s lucky and she is definitely still using, she’s fidgety and shows other signs.
Asha Is, remember when Prince died, she confessed to being opioid addicted. Her slurred speech here is the dead give away that she's still using "something" drug-related. Truly sad!

Chaka Khan was very close with Ike Turner in the late 1970s. There is a photo of them kissing that was published in Jet in 1979. She even did an interview at his Bolic Sound studio. She said they had intended to work together. Ike said in his book that Chaka and Natalie Cole were willing to help him after Tina left but he was feeling insecure and was on a downwards spiral due to drugs. I wonder if they actually recorded any songs together. Ike had wanted Chaka to become an Ikette before Rufus blew up.
