  • The For King and Country movie Unsung Hero is compared to the true story of the Smallbone Family’s struggles after arriving in America in 1991 with almost no money. Starring Joel Smallbone as his father David, the Christian movie focuses on the musical breakthrough of their oldest child, daughter Rebecca Smallbone (Kirrilee Berger), who is known today by her stage name, Rebecca St. James. Unsung Hero also highlights the role of their mother, Helen Smallbone (Daisy Betts), as she holds the family together by keeping faith at the center.
In this episode, we answer the question, "How accurate is Unsung Hero?" by providing an in-depth fact-check of key moments in the Rebecca St. James movie. For example, find out if Lucas Black and Candace Cameron Bure's characters, Jed and Kay Albright, are based on real people, and discover whether Rebecca Smallbone performed her song "You Make Everything Beautiful" at her real-life audition for Eddie DeGarmo's label, ForeFront Records.
The Unsung Hero For King and Country movie was produced by the Christian band, but it is not a film directly about Luke and Joel Smallbone, who headline the Grammy-winning Christian pop duo. Instead, this Christian movie based on a true story follows the early rise of their sister, singer Rebecca St. James. In addition to exploring the Unsung Hero true story via a fact vs. fiction analysis, we also feature side-by-side photos of the cast vs. the real people, including actress Daisy Betts and mother Helen Smallbone, Joel Smallbone and his father David, actress Kirrilee Berger and Rebecca St. James, and actor Jonathan Jackson and Eddie DeGarmo.

Absolutely loved this movie. Love hearing the differences between real life and the movie. They did a good job keeping the core story together of their life and putting it together into an amazing movie

I loved this movie and cried all the way through it! What a beautiful story. I have four children - all grown and many times people joked saying " What's the matter, don't you have a TV?" Sadly, people don't trust God enough to see that having a large family is a blessing.

You should have mentioned the scene n the train when Rebecca puts her feet on the real life David sitting by his wife.

I had no idea that Rebecca Saint James is For King & Country singers' big sister. That is great and joyous in a family.

No one really cares anymore. They have great music. That's about it. What do they actually do. It's all business. Has nothing to do with Jesus.. fake. Fake. Fake.

Bunch of ruthless actions and cut throat tactics even by the Christian music industry. Not much difference between the mainstream music industry.

Instead of making assumptions why don't you invite Helen and David on your channel and find out for sure.

So....because it wasn't talked about in the book that Helen did but it was in the movie...it didn't actually happen? Hmmmm evidently a lot of things that the kids did do while growing up that weren't talked about they didn't actually do...I mean if Helen didn't talk about it in the book how do we REALLY know that it happened?! That is your logic!
