War Horse - Replica WWI Mark IV - Male Tank Build

  • In 2010 whilst working for Neil Corbould Special Effects I was asked to design and build a fully working replica of a World War I British Mark IV Male Tank. Dream project for me and with the help of a talented crew and only 10 weeks to go we set about our build. The first three weeks I spent on CAD sorting through all the intricacies of the design of a Mark IV Male whilst the rest of the crew prepared our donor excavator which would provide the track chains and power pack. It was hard work but a very rewarding build and thanks to everyone it ran faultlessly all throughout the shooting schedule at the Wisley location. Luckily for me at the end of the shoot Bovington Tank Museum were on the look out for a suitable replica for their summer displays and our tank fitted the bill nicely. He now spends his days at the best possible home for a retired actor. Presented in this slideshow video are a small selection of the photographs I took during the build - Enjoy.

      @@shadowjack8 The Brits would for sure at first sight be fooled it's just another Mark IV, but a closer peek and they would be convinced it was Martian trickery right out of War of the Worlds or something. Just the fake rivets alone would completely baffle any mechanic of the day.

    Imagine a modern-day built Mark 4/5 where everything has been upgraded to a level that it would be the true warrior in the fields. Just imagine a stronger engine, tracks designed with some suspension and capable of going much faster (say 15mph for the sakes of tanks), more powerful guns, thicker armor, the whole 9 yards.
    And suddenly send it back to its birth years and witness the true shock of the unstoppable tank. A machine that itself would be able to last even up to WW2 until something at that time would be strong enough to take it out.

    • @TheCarDemotic
      @TheCarDemotic 4 роки тому

      Thicker armor? Against any modern day anti tank weapon, thicker armor isn’t the answer. Composite and space armor is what you want. In all seriousness though it wouldn’t perform as well as you would think. There is a reason why all modern tanks are designed in the same way, it’s because it’s the most practical and effective design we can possibly make.
