Yes, I definitely want to know how you handle summer break. I really love all the content you share. I'm coming up on my 10th year of homeschooling, but I'm still learning all the time. I find I glean so much from you.
Man, I would love to be a fly on the wall in your daily homeschool!! It seems like so much, but the fact that you don't do everything all the time and take all the time you need on some things, I just love that so much.
I just decided to use Biblioplan next year for ancient history. It has Bible reading that goes along with the history reading and is very Christ centered. I love that Biblical history will be taught right alongside everything else. They have amazing literature suggestions for all ages, which I plan to take advantage of! My kids will be in 8th, 6th, 3rd and 1st. Have you ever looked into Biblioplan?
1:20 THIS! I know that when I was in public school, we rarely, if ever actually finished a curriculum textbook. We school year-round, so we’ll definitely be finishing our curriculums, even if we skip all the fluff.
We are doing Vikings from Gatherround currently (Lesson 12) and are LOVING IT! I would recommend doing it before Middle Ages since it's the bridge between Ancient Rome and Middle Ages and since you're planning on doing both it would tie those two together nicely. Anyway, I have a 13, 14 and 16 year old and they find it fascinating and are GLUED to it. Love your channel and God bless you all.
So happy I found your channel. I hope this doesn’t come out the wrong way, but I love how down to earth you are and NOT annoying lol. Some channels just are really off putting on the way the present information. Anyways, binge watching your videos now 😅❤
Could you possibly do a video explaining how you show/document your kids progress and assessments of what they’ve learned for the year? Documenting is not so cut and dry and any tips would be great! Thanks
So agree about how we teach our kids about other belief systems or religions! I’m not gonna tell my kids about all the different religions and let them choose what they think is true - I’m gonna tell them what IS the truth and how there are differing things that others believe. Obviously as they get older, they’ll likely have more questions and even doubts that we’ll need to work through, but I don’t need to tell my young kids they what I know to be true is just one set of beliefs they could choose to believe but there’s also others out there they could choose.
I love your thoughts on science and not just stopping a curriculum because the year changes. We love unit studies as well. My youngest hasn’t gotten as much of that as my older girls have but I definitely want to get back to it. Thanks for sharing!
Have you heard of Generations homeschool curriculum for history specifically? It seems to be exactly what you are looking for when it comes to everything coming from a biblical worldview. The only thing is that it isn't literature based but I think it could potentially be a good fit for your family.
We’re loving Ancient Civilizations with Gather ‘Round! I love the flexibility of adding whatever I want! I also use the story of the world activity book as a supplement. So good!
I was just looking at precious people and it looks so good! We have Sonlight this year and I still want to add it because it looks SO GOOD! I have 4 kids, an 11 year old down to 2 year old and I feel like they could all use it. If you do it, I would love to see a flip through.
I'm considering using The Playful Pioneers with my 16 yo (11th grade), 14 yo (9th grade), 11 yo (6th grade), and 8 yo (2nd grade) this upcoming school year. I was wondering, from the sample pages on their website, I don't see any book suggestions for high school like I do in some of the other guides. What types of literature did you have your high schooler read while using the playful pioneers? It looks and sounds amazing...and I LOVE the Little House Books...so I'm excited to possibly use it, I just want to make sure it will work with the ages of all my kids! Also, do you have a video explaining what resources you used to teach your kids about foraging, herbs, holistic medicine, etc.? That is something I would LOVE to teach to my kids!
They have some chapter book recommendations for each month, but I offer them just as an option. I use the Natural Medicine unit from Campfire Curriculums and then I created an Herbs and Foraging unit that’s available on Etsy!
I love your transparency and realness. We stretch our curriculums for science, history and nature studies and carry them over to the next year sometimes. Could you do a flip through of that music curriculum you shared? 😊thanks.
Thank you for making me not feel bad about music! We have the Living Harmonies from Thistles and Biscuits (which we love) but we have not completed nearly as much of it as I wanted at this time. Alas, there will be next year :)
Some really interesting choices, some I had never heard of before. I would love a r Flip through of the health a body curriculum. It looks really interesting.
we don't completely stop for summer either. i would REALLY like to see hiw you handle you're summers. we slow down to almost a complete stop for spring and fall because we also homestead.....so my time is involved in planting and harvest/preserving....so summers we keep going
This was very helpful, thank you! We are new to homeschooling this year and LOVE unit studies. I am interested to hear thoughts on Beautiful Feet as well.
Great info - thank you! Getting my gears going for next year (will be teaching a 3rd and 6th grader). I'd love to hear what you do with summer - I always think we'll get more done formally (although we do lots of wonderful unstructured learning during our summers). I'd love to keep stretching our goals, but also cherish extra freedom of the summer break. Thoughts?
We’re starting Playful Pioneers this summer and i’m so excited for it. I did Peaceful Preschool years ago and loved it. I’ve been eyeing Idyllwild for awhile and may pull the trigger.
Thank you a million times for this! Idlewild is exactly what I have been looking for to do with my group of littles. I even totally align with the way it was written to be visually simple and book based but low key hands on. I love the beautiful multi printable curriculums but also find it all overwhelming. Idlewild is exactly what I would write if I could get my thoughts on to paper. We will be pairing the Organic studies with the Bible add on and doing Sonlight HBL this year and I am so excited!!!
I love these videos. Can u plz do a video on all the history curriculum u have used and what u liked and didn’t like or how u used them. I’m struggling with finding a history curriculum. I need help PLZ!
Have you used Sonlight? It is expensive but I pieced it together last year, we love the books!! So well thought out and planned intentional and it always brings it back to Jesus and God. Has been such a blessing to my family!
Have you looked into Worlds Story by Angela ODell put out by Masterbooks? We loved it and used it as a read aloud and notebooked instead of using the worksheets. We’re also trying out generations history and literature with my 9th grader this coming year and my younger ones will kind of just tag along for history ❤
I’m doing Precious People! Love Peaceful Press’s style. I combine some materials from Sonlight too, the Child’s History of the World and Usborne Encyclopedia of World History.
I believe, if I'm not mistaken, you can buy just the beautiful feet parent lesson guide on rainbow resource without all the books. That way you can check your library or buy used if you didn't want to spend all that money. I've eyed it a few times but haven't tried it yet.
We really enjoyed simply reading A Child’s History of the World by Hillyer to cover ancients. The kids were so engaged and they loved the reading style and they remembered a lot. It was easy to cover and we moved on :0)
Thanks for sharing these! I'm curious how the health and physical body unit covers nutrition? Is it from a food pyramid point of view or a more holistic, whole foods way? We did ancient civilizations from GR and enjoyed it, but it is definitely one I would recommend spreading out. We attempted to do it as our main curriculum as written, and it was a blur of groups, names, etc. That said, there's a lot of interesting info in it. I would just say, spread it out :)
It seems to be more Whole Foods at a quick glance! And that is good to know-thank you! We typically spread things out simply be we mix so many things lol
How do you label science on your high school sons transcript? I want to still include my son in unit studies from TGATB but feel pressured to stick to high school biology, chemistry ect. I love how you do what you feel is right and not do what public school does. ❤️
I agree. I would be interested in a video explaining how you assign credits since you do so many unit studies. I have an upcoming high schooler for next year and I’m feeling very overwhelmed with this aspect.
So we use Beautiful Feet (so far only the elementary) and here is my opinion (coming from someone with the same convictions as you when it comes to magic and darkness in general). I love it. We have the 'Around the World in Picture Books' and 'Early American History' some of the American history books touch on magic and the spirits the Indians believed in along with different religions that were popular at the time, but because it is done as read alouds and in a family style learning it has organically brought up really good talking points for me to explain in my own words what we believe and why. My kids are all very young (3,4,6,7,9) but I think it's really important to have these talks starting at a young age that there are people who believe other things this is why they believe that and this is how/why we believe what we believe. I think it builds their faith giving them personal examples that they can reflect on latet in life rather than shielding them from all other religions (I was shielded from all things not Christian my entire life and had to do some major soul searching once I became an adult to figure out why I believed what I believed other than "because my parents said"). I have lightly touched on magic, evolution and other religions and my 9 year old especially will point things out now that he hears or reads and tells me "this is what others believe but it is not truth according to God."
This is a lot like what I think their stance is based on what I’ve read, and I respect that, it’s just not for us-at least in this season ❤️ Also, I think it’s less prominent in the younger years.
@@RootedHomeLife I paused your video and commented this and then started watching again and that's when I realized you said pretty much the exact thing 🤦🏻♀️ should have finished it before commenting lol
Thanks for the video. 1- Do you have a review or final thoughts on natural medicine by campfire curriculum? Be curious to know if you could recommend it? 2- Idlewood!! I never heard of it. Sounds great, I’m looking that up. Thank you.
Have you checked Simply Charlotte Mason curriculum for History, Bible and Geography all in-one. I'm considering it and so far it looks amazing in every single way. ;)
Hi , Love your insights and encouragement! Quick question, would you recommend good and the beautiful curriculums for working moms. I’m looking to avoid excessive technology usage and would like to change up my approach for next school year to more hands-on. I really like G&B but not sure if it will be too time consuming. Thanks 😊
Have you looked at the learning through literature book studies. They are units. Take a book and deep dive for a month or so. Picture book suggestions with the chapter book, video suggestions and craft suggestions. Just wanted to share. They have GREAT book lists and a poet a month that is free and sent straight to your email.
Thanks for all the great info! I just bought a curriculum from the Good and the Beautiful for the first time then read some things that the company owners are Mormon. I did go to their site where they address this. Not bashing anyone or the company. I also have strong Christian convictions and wanted to get your opinion about that. Thanks again!
Yes, this is true. It is my understanding though that they have different denominations working on the curriculum to ensure there are no specific doctrines in the curriculum that are denominationally specific. I have not come across any issues at all.
We have done ancients and Vikings from gather round this year. My kids enjoyed ancients more than Vikings. They were both kind of boring, I admit. We love GR and are faithful users but I’m switching to peaceful press for history this year. My kids are 14, 11, 10, 9 and 8 for reference 😊
My Father's World price tag is a whooper but 50% of its profits goes to missionaries. Also, a representative from MFW calls you during the year and prays for you 🧡. However, this year we will be studying Ancient Civilization and Middles Ages but these time periods are not my favorite. I did NOT want to study it for a TWO year AT. ALL. with MFW. So we may use Sonlight, Masterbooks (accelerated) or Gather Round. I am leaning towards Sonlight because it already has the discussion questions, readers, timeline and crafts. We have the same choices for Science...lol! If you do decide to use Ancient Civilization, please do a "prep with me" video or reel. I would love that help ;).
@@RootedHomeLife Similar to what you did for Idle Wild when you set it up on the table. Or when you talk about and showed the things for your Herb Unit. Both ways were helpful as I am a visual learner.
Also- I’m curious how you feel about TGATB science units? I’ve used two this year and I’m not sure yet whether I love them or if I want to buy any more. I’d love to hear your opinion
Curious- have you used beautiful feet early American history? After what you said about the other religions/world views I’m a little worried about using it.
@@RootedHomeLife If you would like you know more, Kevin Zadai has a school of ministry and started a home schooling curriculum. I find it very impressive. Blessings.
We used beautiful feet books and I found it to be too Christian (we're not Christian)... Loved the literature based approach but funnily enough, given your qualms, I remember I kept having to interject to tell my kids, "now we don't believe this to be true, but..." Simply Charlotte Mason comes to mind, if no one has mentioned it yet, as something to investigate.
We love MFW. But it is pricey. We just finished Creation to the Greeks and enjoyed it. But also enjoy Biblioplan! That's a great one if you haven't looked into it. More affordable and a huge booklist in the TM. Along with a movie list as well. Everything comes from a Christian world view. You can do as much or as little as you want. We read the Remember the Days book and it was very enjoyable reading. Looks like a textbook but reads very nicely. It's biblical history tied into the Acient one. So lots of Bible stories.
You are wrong about Beautiful Feet. There is a 2 page long explanation about teaching myths in the introduction of Intermediate Ancient. In that guide, there is a lot of Bible reading. Most of the guides in the intermediate levels include missionary or obviously Christian books like Sergeant York.
I think maybe it depends on what you mean by convictions. And I mean this TOTALLY respectfully, for example, I have a conviction about not using TGTB because of its affiliations. So I think maybe knowing what your convictions SPECIFICALLY are it may help people give you a better idea. We LOVE Gather Round but I have also heard really good things about Mystery of History and Biblioplan. 😊 Maybe one of those would be a good fit for you if you want to spend more time on Ancient History than Gather Round.
I totally get that! I felt that way too initially, but my convictions have more to do with the actual content, which I haven’t found to be a problem in anything I’ve used/seen from TGTB, whereas I don’t want to spend a year learning about Greek gods and mythology from secular books. That’s not to say my thoughts would never change on any of the above, but that’s where I’m at with it all at the moment.
@@RootedHomeLife I think the Gather Round unit study is a PERFECT fit then 😊 Also, I would suggest Story of the World vol 1 as a read aloud. It covers ancient history and while it does spend maybe a chapter on Greek gods, it also spends some time on other stories too including stories from the bible.
What psychology curriculum are you planning to use? I'd love to find one with a Christian worldview. I got my M.A. in professional counseling and that has helped me understand people and have more compassion. I believe it has helped me be a better wife and mother.
I love Beautiful Feet books curriculum books precisely because they offer a wide range of literature (they could use a revision on some; more diverse titles imo) To quote Grace Lin (Ted Talk) and Amber O’Neal Johnston (Heritage Mom) children need windows and mirrors in education/literature. History is complicated and I have yet to find a curriculum, especially a Christian curriculum, that does it justice (they usually present a very white/ western world view ) when it pertains to history . I think it’s our job to keep reiterating that this is what “WE believe, this is what God says, and this is what THEY believe”. I really love what Rachel @SEVENINALL says about teaching history (she’s also a strong believer). Obviously it’s up to your discernment but I think the older kids are fully capable of analyzing cultural perspectives.
I’d love to see flip throughs of TGATB science units. I’m dreading full year curriculum for science with my soon to be 9th grader. Would you be giving your high schooler a full credit for the year with this curriculum? Help 🫠🙈

Hi ,
Love your insights and encouragement!
Quick question, would you recommend good and the beautiful curriculums for working moms. I’m looking to avoid excessive technology usage and would like to change up my approach for next school year to more hands-on. I really like G&B but not sure if it will be too time consuming. Thanks 😊
Yes! Definitely!!
Have you looked at the learning through literature book studies. They are units. Take a book and deep dive for a month or so. Picture book suggestions with the chapter book, video suggestions and craft suggestions. Just wanted to share. They have GREAT book lists and a poet a month that is free and sent straight to your email.
That sounds awesome!
Have you seen the Chemistry into study that Jodi Mockabee has? It’s lovely!
No, but I’ll have to check it out-thanks!
Thank you very informative
We have done ancients and Vikings from gather round this year. My kids enjoyed ancients more than Vikings. They were both kind of boring, I admit. We love GR and are faithful users but I’m switching to peaceful press for history this year. My kids are 14, 11, 10, 9 and 8 for reference 😊
Good to know!
I am with you regarding beautiful feet book 😉I noticed the same thing
I feel bad, because they do address their perspective, as Christians, and I respect it, it’s just not for me.
I think Middle Ages was my kids' favorite unit, which honestly surprised me but I also enjoyed it. :)
Oh wow!
Ok! Which aspect of the prep is most helpful?
@@RootedHomeLife Similar to what you did for Idle Wild when you set it up on the table. Or when you talk about and showed the things for your Herb Unit. Both ways were helpful as I am a visual learner.
Also- I’m curious how you feel about TGATB science units? I’ve used two this year and I’m not sure yet whether I love them or if I want to buy any more. I’d love to hear your opinion
This will be our first time using their science!
Curious- have you used beautiful feet early American history? After what you said about the other religions/world views I’m a little worried about using it.
I haven’t, but I do think it’s less of an issue in the younger units!
Im waiting for the playful pioneers volume 2 to be released
Also I’d love a flip through of the Idlewild curriculum. ❤
I did one on Idlewild maybe six months ago!
@@RootedHomeLife going to find that now!
@@LifeofTillmans if you can’t find it let me know!
We are going to use Warrior Notes homeschooling.
I haven’t heard of that!
@@RootedHomeLife If you would like you know more, Kevin Zadai has a school of ministry and started a home schooling curriculum. I find it very impressive. Blessings.
Have you done or might consider mythology at all? I was thinking about doing that this year
Do you think the word studies from idle wild could be used with nature study club?
Yes!
We used beautiful feet books and I found it to be too Christian (we're not Christian)... Loved the literature based approach but funnily enough, given your qualms, I remember I kept having to interject to tell my kids, "now we don't believe this to be true, but..."
Simply Charlotte Mason comes to mind, if no one has mentioned it yet, as something to investigate.
That’s interesting!
I keep hearing this one come up!
You are wrong about Beautiful Feet. There is a 2 page long explanation about teaching myths in the introduction of Intermediate Ancient. In that guide, there is a lot of Bible reading. Most of the guides in the intermediate levels include missionary or obviously Christian books like Sergeant York.
I did read that in the guide, and I respect that perspective, but I don’t want to spend that much time reading that in-depth on Greek gods, etc.
Which thing are you saying I’m wrong about?
Did you get a notebook for both kids for of every nation?
Review for the nations curriculum
What natural medicine curriculum did you use?
From Campfire Curriculums! I have a flip through from last summer!!
You would love the Psychology.
I can’t wait to try it!
Have you ever looked into Five in a Row?
I haven’t! Do you use that?
@@RootedHomeLife we do! I use it with all of the kids and it covers just about all of the main subjects.
What psychology curriculum are you planning to use? I'd love to find one with a Christian worldview. I got my M.A. in professional counseling and that has helped me understand people and have more compassion. I believe it has helped me be a better wife and mother.
I had the same question. :)
The one from Gather around!
Can you do a review of chemistry after you do it?
Sure!
How old is exploring nature with children for?
It's hard to find a history for first grade that is Christian based and easy for a child to understand.
Which ones have you tried?
@@RootedHomeLife we have tried the good and beautiful and the beautiful feet
I’d love to see flip throughs of TGATB science units. I’m dreading full year curriculum for science with my soon to be 9th grader. Would you be giving your high schooler a full credit for the year with this curriculum? Help 🫠🙈
Yes, I am! If we’re doing Science throughout the whole year he’s getting a credit of Science 😉
