Worthy's Story

- Worthy was born with a deformed leg and was kept by someone who could not afford to feed her, let alone give her the surgery she needed. She hobbled along for a year and was grossly underweight and malnourished and had crushed all her growth plates in that leg and had difficulty walking and could not run. The local vets in South Carolina wanted to put her to sleep, but we never give up that easily and showed her pictures to our local vets in California and asked if they knew what was wrong with her and if there was any help. Our vets said that it was Windswept Angular Limb Deformity, which is common in horses and should have been corrected at birth. We were told of a hospital in Kentucky that does this exact surgery in yearlings so we transported Worthy to Kentucky to be examined. The surgeons at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital told us that it was the worst case they had ever seen but they were willing to give her a chance even though the operation was extremely risky with no guarantees. After a 4-hour surgery, 6 months of hospitalization, thousands and thousands of dollars for the vet bill, two casts, a specially made leg brace, many titanium screws and plates and lots of prayers from around the world, Worthy made it; her leg is now straight and she can walk, run, lay down and play like a normal horse. Worthy will spend the rest of her life at The Gentle Barn, giving hope and inspiration to thousands of children born with differences and struggles of their own.
I donated to Worthy's surgery months and months ago, and it makes me so happy that she recovered so well! Thank you for all you do, Gentle Barn!
I'm with you .... I'm google sharing and FB sharing asking for donations to the Gentle Barn - what a worthy worthy charity!!!!
There is nothing like animal lovers helping animals get better and well again! Thanks!
Thank God for people like you! This is such a beautiful story. Made me cry. God bless you for what you do!!!
You know what? You're so amazing! Thank you for being there for so many animals that even wouldn't have got a chance without you. It's so incredible what you did and still do for Worthy and all the others. The world needs people like you, thank you so much and keep it up!
I am an above knee amputee who struggles daily. The daily pain is continuous and punishing, controlled only by lager doses of oxycodone and Neurontin. Worthy's story is inspirational especially because of my deep love of horses. At one time I was on trac to become an equine surgeon but was unexpectedly called to serve a mission for my church. My devotion and deep convictions took my down a different path, away from my life long dream to be a vet-I have never regretted my decision bu that has never changed my love of hoses. Having very limited funds I continue to make donations as often as permitted and grateful their AR organizations like the Gentle Barn. Thank You!
Darn onions got me again. Wow, what can I say? THANK YOU!
There were tears in my eyes and goose bumps while I was watching that wonderful video. The Gentle Barn is a super organization and you people are angels to give Worthy a precious chance to a life.
This is a huge victory not just for the horses, kids and the Gentle Barn but for those astoundingly talented vets!!!! You can't BUY advertisement better than this!!!! They should have performed this for free just for the tremendous exposure - I wonder if any horse magazines have published this story? If I were younger I'd write it and submit my damned self.
This is such an awesome story. God bless Ellie and Jay for not giving up on Indie. And just curious, why would someone give this a thumbs down?? Really???
Thumbs down? Trolls.
What compassionate people!!! Not only did they fix Worthy's leg, but they were concerned for the emotional well-being of all three horses--truly amazing!!!
... Beautiful ...
Such compassion for a "worthy" animal.. Thanks for making the difficult decisions you had to make.
Seeing the humans supporting Worthy back to his stable after his operation was such a touching image, so much love and patience for another species, just the way it should be.

Lovely story:-)
One day I wanna visit gentlebarn
It is absolutely wonderful to see your ministry in action. I am reminded of God's first command to humanity:
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”--Genesis 1:28.
I just want to say that you GET God's heart behind this command. Well done, Gentle Barn. Well done.
Yay!!!
my eyes are leaking
Times like this I wish I had money to help I mean really help and make a difference- I don't need LV purse or red bottom shoes I would give my $$$$$ to Gentle Barn - I donate just wish it was so much more
This place is great! I've been to their site many times and have read many stories of the rescued animals they have. I sponsored one cutie, who is a turkey named Heather. How could I resist! I love that little gal! :) Here's that sweetie :

Does anyone know what music is used in this video?
If there is a God which I do not think there is, then he may take care of you in the afterlife which, again, I do not think there is!
i had to put down my blue roan yearling a month ago.
why not make this horse useful and turn her into glue
gary rodgers what a horribly mean thing to say! Ouch!
Thank You!
