That's pretty much what the show is about. Making entire episodes about subjects most shows wouldn't even consider, and doing it in a hilarious way. A common joke is to say that Seinfeld is about "nothing" when asked what the show is about.
Seinfeld is such a uniquely written show that you really have to watch full episodes to truly get the gist of it. It's truly written in a style different from the typical sitcom.
Seinfeld was not “just another” show. Many critics rate this as the best American sitcom of all time. During the 90’s it was considered a cultural phenomenon in the US with many instances of episode dialogue (eg “Yada Yada”, “no soup for you”) entering the American lexicon.
This is one of my favourite episodes. I never watched ‘Seinfeld’ when it first aired but got into it when they had re-runs and have loved it ever since. I never get tired of watching every episode.
The house at 3:35 is in the Hamptons on Long Island. The Hamptons are about a 2 hour drive from New York City (Jerry, George, Kramer, and Elaine all live in the city). They were out there visiting friends. The Hamptons is a popular area for wealthy New Yorkers to have a second home.
One of the best episodes ever! This whole episode is just awesome. You have to watch the whole thing to truly appreciate it. “Breath taking”, shrinkage, the eggs. Kramer stealing the lobster. Classic!
Watching only clips loses much of the context, which is super important in each show. Generally the formula is that there are 3 stories going on with the main characters, and they all converge for maximum comedic mayhem.
Years after new episodes stopped airing, Seinfeld remains one of my favorites shows and I still watch it from time to time. I actually had this episode saved on my DVR until a few weeks ago and would play it to have as background noise on occasion.
These clever bits is why Jerry ended up with $1 billion in royalty income from his show and actually tore down a perfecty good $40 million house to build one his wife liked better.
Yeah, like we know it isn't always a bad thing when there is genetic shrinkage. They put it all in in other, um, ways, I never minded when a dude tries to compensate. ☺
Same here FFC. The show never really resonated with me, but some episodes did have some funny moments. Really? Women actually discuss things like that in private? I'm shocked. LOL!!!
@@firefighterchick Oh gosh, golly, no. All men are gentlemen and would never talk trash in private. Well.....maybe not ALL men are gentlemen, but most are. Well......maybe not most men, but a lot of men would never. Oh hell, you're right....all men talk trash. Never mind.😁
this show is all about focusing on the little things in life, the obvious things noone talks about, and blowing it out of proportion. awesome stuff, i quote Seinfeld on a semi daily basis.

You guys missed the funniest part of that show.......maybe the funniest part of the WHOLE SERIES! You have to see Kramer's reaction to seeing the "ugly baby"! IT'S HYSTERICAL! The first time I saw that, I played it over and over and OVER again!!!!!!!!!!! And I laughed like a madman each time! I still laugh like crazy when seeing now 25 years later!
Until the show Community came out in 2009 this was absolutely the funniest show I'd ever seen. It's still way up there for me and it never gets old. I laugh every time.
Wow this episode deserved to be watched from beginning to end. They all go on vacation in the Hamptons to see the baby of the beach house homeowners. So many crazy things go down that shrinkage is probably #3 of all other situations that weekend. There is a reason he wanted to see Seinfeld's girlfriend naked. So there is a female topless sunbathing situation, an ugly baby and a lobster thief then the shrinkage. Anytime they go out of the city all hell breaks lose. Another one is the cabin in the woods and the other was a 2 part Kramer moves to Los Angeles. They all have to be seen from beginning to end.
I'm glad you guys are gaining an appreciation for Seinfeld. The show was hugely popular for its unique characters and exaggerated situational humor of both Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld. You would love the character of "Kramer" for his insane take on life and physical comedy. So much of the language that originated on this show has entered the American vernacular. ua-cam.com/video/JtA8gqWA6PE/v-deo.html
If you think this topic is risque and squirmy. You should watch the entire episode of "The Contest". They handle the topic brilliantly and hilariously.
Seinfeld is literally a show about nothing. That's what makes it so funny. It's just the day to life of these four neurotic friends. One of the funniest shows in TV history, IMHO.
George came to a Hamptons beach house for the weekend with a brand new girlfriend, with whom he has not yet been intimate at all. When George is at the store or in the bathroom, the girl nonchalantly goes topless on the beach and casually talks to Jerry, Elaine and Kramer giving them all a close-up view. By the time George returns, she has gone inside and gotten dressed. Kramer spills the beans about everyone seeing her naked, and George has a fit. He demands to see Jerry's girlfriend naked, and he tries to barge-in on her while she's changing...

For context, George was dating Jane but they had not slept together yet. He was hoping this trip would seal the deal. He left to buy tomatoes, and Jane decided to go topless…can’t remember if she was swimming or tanning. George was upset because all of his friends saw Jane’s breasts before he did.
Seinfeld was hit and miss for me. Like this episode several had me rolling but then there would be a lame one. Women do talk WAY more trash than men do, we are ruthless too! 🤣🤣🤣
Seinfeld was a bit hit and miss. George was my favourite character. He's probably the most Brit-sitcom-like. This "Shrinkage" episode is funny. An unrecoverable 'first opportunity to impress'? 😀 Good choice, Squirrel. Best Wishes, All. ☮
Jason Alexander based the George Costanza character on Woody Allen until he realized the inspiration for the character was the show's co-creator, Larry David. I'd love to know which episodes you thought were misses.
@@kevinbrown-ge6sz Thank you for replying. I didn't see the original broadcasts. I saw reruns of Seinfeld mostly from about 2000 to 2006, but I wasn't a dedicated fan, so not regularly. I've seen a few since then too. I don't remember any episode names or enough details of 'misses' to tell you. IIRC, a common feature was usually Kramer irritating me so much I stopped watching. IIRC, I also found Seinfeld either a bit too smug or whiny, so I feel I enjoyed some episodes with his 'arch nemesis' Newman. My feeling is Newman, was incompetent, yet somehow 'held sway' over Seinfeld. and that was part of the joke (as if Seinfeld recognised his character's weaknesses). My feeling is Elaine was less annoying than Kramer. However, I'm shallow, and she had a wonderful smile. 😀 So, sorry I can't be specific, but my memory has (helpfully) discarded uninteresting (to me) stuff after a decade or two, leaving only feelings or impressions.
