I've been thinking of getting this for my Trailblazer just for my driveway and parents driveway. If you connect some heavy duty bungee cords from the back of the plow to the tow hooks on the Explorer, you should be able to back drag. You'll have to lift the plow everytime you back up, but it should work.
I like that winch set up. As far as the Snowsport HD plow, I really like mine. I lease my pick ups, currently 2017 Silverado 4x4, factory tires, no lift, and do not want to go through the headache of installing a real plow. Besides, I only take care of the neighborhood, just the main road and my driveway, only use a few times a year, and it does do the job. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to move snow that has a long driveway or a private road they need to keep open. The Snowsport HD is a clean install, not involving running electrical cable and controls. This plow is truly plug and play once you have the front receiver hitch installed, and is not that difficult to use in the least. Also, it is easy on the truck, no mechanical issues after two seasons of use. I bought mine at RealTruck.com. It was delivered in a few days after ordering, and I assembled in my garage with hand tools and a small Milwaukee impact, you will need an impact, trust me, unless you are a one tough dude. The plow has paid for itself in spades, at least in my book. Six to eight inches of snow reported to be coming tomorrow... Going to go plug her in in a few minutes, gotta be ready.
I did try to do just that we no positive results. The two rubber sides are designed to lift and drop the plow on its back when backing up if you can picture what I mean. I think it might work if they were removed but I'm not that concerned about it. I believe they have a purpose so I don't want to mess with them. Thanks for the suggestion.
As I mentioned in the video, this will outlast your truck. I started on a Ford Explorer, put it on a Dodge Ram and now it's on a Ford F150. I just purchased a new front hitch for each truck at RealTruck.com. The plow itself is in excellent condition because it is aluminum but the other steel parts have surface rust only. So far nothing broke on it. If I would take the time to sand and repaint, it would look new again.
Hey thanks for remembering to give me credit on the design of the winch mount! Here is a link to my original video on building the mount if anyone is interested. ua-cam.com/video/jeEUKHpFVP8/v-deo.html
Notch the tube to accept the pulley ( wheel) drill the tabs that are remaining and use a bolt as the “axle” space the pulley with washers so it is centre and not loose
Quentin Petra I thought my winch was failing too but the contacts points were loosening at the winch itself. Once I tightened them it worked fine. I also bought another winch for a backup in case this one failed me.
I the the same HD plow. How did you Mount the winch on there ? Also could you send me pictures of how it’s mounted on Please ? I would really Appreciate it thanks
In you tube type in the search "snowsport plow winch" and the first one that pops up is from "heylawnguy." That is where I got the idea. He really did a great job making this modification and he could probably explain it better but the video itself is self explanatory. Good luck
Can you tell me the dimensions for the plate that the winch sits on, the dimensions for the pull that the cable rides on, and the length of the chain please?
+planefreak99The plate is a six by 12 inch piece of metal that is "folded" to make a L shape, thus making two 6x6inch plates. One for mounting on the plow bracket the other side for mounting the winch on. The height of the arm is 24 inches and the chain length is also 24 inches.
I’m on my second winch since 2015, so that’s only $50. The plow body is in great condition, the rubber parts are all in very good to great condition. The plow bracket and the mod I had done to it shows surface rust only. Overall it is still holding up very well. I still use it when needed. I still wish I could back drag with it. If I remove the rubber sides, I could probably do it. It so far has outlasted a 2004 Ford Explorer, 2002 Dodge Ram WT and is currently on a 2010 F150. For my needs, a great investment.
How deep of snow have you plowed with it? My Explorer is only 2wd same year, I use snow tires and put weight in the back, how do you think I would get along? I might start out with it on the back, eventually get a front hitch, really considering the 180 plow
I have moved up to 10" here in Michigan. It will depend on your vehicle, my Silverado 4x4 with factory tires has yet to get stuck. I do a 1/4 mile private road with mine along with my 200' driveway, I am pushing some snow, and it does a great job. No issue on the gravel road or the lawn where I deposit most of the snow, this plow is really landscape friendly... I keep the neighborhood open during the winter. Best bet is to hit the snow early and often, especially with two wheel drive.
Idk if its deceiving bc ofnthe video but it looks like you're flying. And driving a SUV which isnt intended to plow..if you hit something that isnt going to budge you're going to destroy that exploder.
It won’t scrape down to the gravel once the ground freezes, however, if you have a lot of fresh loose gravel, it might pick some up. Overall I’ve pushed the snow onto grass with little to no damage.
For $over $1000 for the plow alone, then you will need another $200+ for the front receiver hitch? For that much I could build three of them. I made my own and it took about a day to make it. It took me longer to make the receiver hitch on my truck, but it's probably heavier duty then that one. They work great!!
No. I just went to a local steel manufacturer and told them what I needed from a drawing plus some pictures and they made it from some steel tubing. I also took the winch with me so they can see how it needs to fit. Hope this helps you.
it puzzle me why the factory doesn't include a winch feature, it doesn't cost that much more. Sorry, no winch, not interested. The whole point of snow plowing is not doing any physical work and not getting in and out of the car/truck. This factory set up is equivalent to a castrated plow.
Yes, the winch does seal the deal. It's not too much of an added expense, still better cost than a "real" plow. I currently have it on a 2010 Ford F150, the third vehicle since I purchased it.

thanks for introducing Mike Stevens and Matt Andersen to me :-) good music!
Thank you for comments and compliment!

Good idea dude!
I got one used I have a broke ankle I handle it alone looking another. But asking about blade were do you get one
Realtruck.com has replacement parts
It would be nice if the people of snowsport snow plow made this kit as an option to purchase.
They just released their version in August of 2019.
its not bad... the sun should level it..
Love the song 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Thank you! I’m surprised it took this long for someone to mention that! Thanks, you made my day!!
Any suggestions on sourcing the parts for this? I'm not having much luck finding a suitable pulley to weld onto a square tube.
M3hammerdown
I bought a pully from Home Depot for under 5 bucks. It has a fixed eyelet. Hope this helps

I did about the same type set up as you and works great but my harbor frieght wench has failed
Quentin Petra I thought my winch was failing too but the contacts points were loosening at the winch itself. Once I tightened them it worked fine. I also bought another winch for a backup in case this one failed me.
it makes click click sound
pionts in side of electric motor do you mean
when u get to the end of ur push raise the blade and u can pile the snow higher
Good point. Thanks

+CollisionAlert Thank you very much
How is your plow doing now with it being 3 years later?

If you get enough traction you should be good up to 5 inches but if you have ice underneath, plow often.
Idk if its deceiving bc ofnthe video but it looks like you're flying. And driving a SUV which isnt intended to plow..if you hit something that isnt going to budge you're going to destroy that exploder.
How do you think this would work on a gravel driveway?
This won’t dig in like a “real” plow so you should be good
CollisionAlert do you think you can remove the snow down to the gravel? I have a 700 foot driveway.
It won’t scrape down to the gravel once the ground freezes, however, if you have a lot of fresh loose gravel, it might pick some up. Overall I’ve pushed the snow onto grass with little to no damage.

its good to be talented
Pictures please
And can you pull snow with this plow?
If you take off the thick rubber ends and attach chains to the back of it, I would think you would be able to back drag with it
hmmm little rough on your plowin style huh lol n not useing your winch i noticed toward the end of your video ehh
I have one. And it is not NOT that hard to get out and drop and raise it. You should have showed how easy it is.
Do you make these mod kits?
No. I just went to a local steel manufacturer and told them what I needed from a drawing plus some pictures and they made it from some steel tubing. I also took the winch with me so they can see how it needs to fit. Hope this helps you.
How much did the winch cost u?
I paid about $50 at Harbor Freight, to have the bracket manufactured at a local steel place was about $150 ish. Its been a while.

That thing is a joke why would u buy that !?!?!?
