@@parksyistWhen it was first introduced, Nintendo was working with Sony on the Nintendo 64DD, which would have had a built-in disc player. Headcanon time! So what happened to Jr. that he's dead? Jr. was killed in the Kremean War when modern DK was just a youngling and Cranky was too old to serve in the war. If we tweak the timeline of the War just ever so slightly, then the entire rivalry of the Kremlings and Kongs could go back long enough that DK Jr. could have enlisted or been drafted into the war. Bazooka Bear hints that the War was fought and won only a few years before DKC3, but we also know from other sources that Cranky started the rivalry when he explored Crocodile Isle in his youth, which could have been the start of the Kremean War - Bazooka's recollection of the timeline could be when the Bears were dragged into the War, which would be - from his perspective - the start of the Bear Theater of the Kremean War but likely not the start of the Kong Theater of the War, similar to how WWII started in 1931 but the USA didn't join until 1941 and that is the year they've enshrined for themselves. So, what if Cranky took some relic or artifact from the Kremlings that they wanted back so bad that they were willing to start an entire war over? Enter: The Crystal Coconut. The Kremlings are technologically advanced, we know that. We also know that parts of their civilization is ancient and that the Kremlings have been present on DK Isle in the past based on the temple carvings in DKC1. But ... when we see the Kremling tech, it appears to be in a state of decline or decay, as though it was built a while ago and hasn't had much in the way of proper maintenance for several years. I posit that the Crystal Coconut was the primary power source for their civilization, and that civilization started to degrade when Cranky stole the Coconut and sparked the Kremean War. The Kremlings actually are starving as their means of producing basic food was powered by the Coconut, forcing them into implied cannibalism and/or raiding neighboring islands for food and energy, hence why they keep stealing the banana horde. Kremkroc Industries could be a secret base K.Rool's army established during the war or a refinery to provide oil to power the Kremling civilization in place of the Crystal Coconut or both. Obviously KAOS Kore was a secret military research base for the Kremlings that also served as a fallback position if the War didn't go their way. Since the castle isn't destroyed like Crocodile Isle was in DKC2, nor was K.Rool killed or exiled, he likely rallied his forces back there and began construction of Crocodile Rock, the mobile fortress he uses to attack DK Isle in 64. Now, as for why the Kremlings just didn't use one of the other hundreds of crystal coconuts found throughout DK64, there are two reasons. One, the original Crocodile Isle was destroyed, and with it most of the Kremling civilization so they no longer have anything that needs the Coconut's power, especially as they've learned to tap the Banana Medals to power the fortress. Two, the crystal coconuts used by the Kongs as energy for their Fairy powers aren't nearly as potent as the original Crystal Coconut stolen by Cranky. Like dilithium crystals in Star Trek or the Xen crystals in Half Life, I'm willing to bet that the coconuts have different levels of purity that affect their energy matrix. The common coconuts that are collectibles in DK64 are probably their equivalent to AA, D or 9v cell batteries - not very powerful but fairly common with crystal matrices that are far from perfect and thus can't hold much of a charge and/or are very unstable as a result, making them very fragile and of limited use. The main Crystal Coconut, the one that gets capitalized, has a perfect or near perfect matrix that makes it extremely resilient, have a very high energy capacity and allows it to do all of the quasi-magical things it does in the TV show. That purity is why it's so sought after, and why the Kremlings value it so much that they would go to literal war against the Kongs to get it back and that war is how DK Jr. died and left Donkey Kong III to be raised by Cranky Kong, aka Donkey Kong Sr. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
I always figured that Cranky Kong was DK's grandfather too, while Wrinkly Kong - Cranky's deceased wife and the ghost from the game - was DK's grandmother. This is based on me playing this game before ever knowing about DK Jr (first learned about him from Mario Tennis), and never playing the Donkey Kong Country games.
Loved this a lot! It was great to hear fellow DK64 defender Joe too! The pillar mystery is probably one of the most famous ones out there. The rest of them are also very interesting. I love how the klumps just scarf down oranges when they get bored on the job. I would love a part 2 as well as other mystery videos that you can come up with.
3:40 At this point, your explanation for why K. Lumsey and the giant Kosha are enormous in size sounds like an explanation they would use in a comic adaptation. Maybe around the early 2000’s.
You forgot to talk about why the island is shaped lik Donkey Kong's head, why we never see the laser on the ship fire, why they recycled 2 bosses, and who built the mechanical fish in Gloomy Galleon and why.
@jiggylookback Also, there are only 2 ways to get a Game Over, and dying is surprisingly not one of them. Its quitting and failing tomstop the Blast of Matic.
To be fair, the pillar in Creepy Castle is an exhibit of the museum. Rarre probably put it there as an easter egg to see if anyone could guess its correlation. Kinda surprised me to this day that they couldn't add a Golden Banana for her in there, or maybe like a third "coin" to access K. Rool.
I thought I knew this game inside and out, but somehow, I've never heard of K. Lumsy being K. Rool's brother. I think it's also interesting to point out that the famed Krushas from original DKC appear only as a secret character in Monkey Smash, with their signature weapon being a recoilless rifle firing orange-nades, despite them being featured in the original entry as a regular enemy in levels. As far as I'm aware, not a single one of them exists as an enemy in story mode.
Correct about Krusha! Yeah K Lumsy in the Japanese version is referred as K Rools brother. In other versions they changed the dialogue not to show that fact for some reason. But he is in fact his brother!
I always wondered how K. Lumsy was even locked up to begin with. He'd not get locked in a cage willingly, unless he fell for a trap set by kremlings. Or the bosses like Dogadon and Mad Jack pushing him into the cage.
I do love it! I love Rare in general tho! But yeah DK64 has a special place in my heart! It was my first N64 game and the N64 was my first console :) First game I ever played tho was Sonic on Genesis!
@ no chunky is actually the big brother to Kiddy Kong. And Tiny is the sister to Dixie Kong. Chunky is Tiny and Dixie’s cousin and not directly related to DK. As far as I know
Cranky’s creator confirmed that Cranky was always meant to be the grandfather and that him calling DK his son in 64 is just him going senile. That being said I prefer the idea that the modern Donkey Kong is the grandson of Cranky mostly because of the fact that the modern design is treated as it’s own unique character with no relation to the arcade days, it also makes of the whole tension between the two of them more interesting thanks to their generational divide, like DK would know that Cranky isn’t blowing smoke when he’s talking about his glory days if he was Jr. As for what happened to Jr.? I just assume he was retired and didn’t want anything to do with the whole video game hero craze after the arcade days, happily giving his title to his son.
@@jiggylookback Honestly I agree, I think it would be cool if he was the focus of a new DK game, maybe have him take up Funky and Cranky’s old roles as a shopkeep and advice for finding bonus room.
Another mystery: what even is that shell hive in Jungle Japes? Tiny Kong can shrink to go inside it, and I'm wondering if it's a armadillo shell or something. Could it be Army Dillo's old shell before going with an all-metal one?
I always thought it had to do with the spinning tower you feed peanuts to with Diddy. If you notice, they both have the same voice. Perhaps he’s guarding the tombs, and has to threaten you if you take the bananas.
Maybe it takes a while to draw a bead. ...And you get to know exactly how long. ...And he doesn't actually care until you collect the Golden Banana, for some reason. He doesn't try to preemptively shoot you before then. Tiny's verse is kind of weird in other ways. Is it really saying much that she can climb trees?
The game glitched once for me on the Get out voice, I think I got hit by something just before 00 hit and the music kept playing and I was able to move around, I think I was Chunky Kong, it was in Crystal Caverns.
I just started watching this and it’s pretty good theories, Even almost 30 years old DK64 is one of the most impressive N64 games ever made and I hope it comes to NSO or better yet make a remake of it imagine the graphics for the levels. C’mon Nintendo it’s DKC’s 30 year anniversary please do something to celebrate it
if I may interject, I don't think K.lumsy is waring a Kremling skull as none of the Kremlings have giant horns, also I believe the German DK64 website confirms Lankey Kong being from the Utan islands, meaning he's most likely not related to the Mankey Kongs.
Hearing some information today specifically from the German variants of things…which is interesting. Perhaps it’s not a kremling with horns but the head and arms. It’s just flipped upside down? Regardless no idea what it is lol
Interesting video and cool collab! Just a question about Banjo Tooie, would it be possible to beat the whole game without understanding any of the dialogue? I just got the Japanese version and I know that Banjo Tooie has a bigger story than Banjo Kazooie so not understanding the dialogue would definitely cause problems but is it still possible?
I’d imagine it’s possible but probably very difficult…mostly due to the quiz show at the end. It’s hard even in English so I can’t imagine not knowing what it says.
@@jiggylookback I also have played the Japanese version of Banjo Kazooie and it was very confusing at first but I got the hang of it after a while. I am at Click Clock Wood right now. I was unaware that Banjo Tooie had a game show at the end as well, thanks for the info!
I believe the reticle itself is supposed to be Kroc. As for K.Lumsy, I think that's just due to his different subspecies of Kremling, like how Klaptraps are still technically Kremlings.
@jiggylookback As for Kroc, I should maybe clarify a bit I believe the reticle itself is his body or form. I don't think he's offscreen, I think he's literally the reticle. It seems more funny and creative that way. K. Rool is still somewhat huge compared to the kongs. Maybe K. Rool is crazy because he's underdeveloped and that's why his eye is deformed? K. Rool could be a pygmy for his subspecies and K. Lumsy overgrown for it.
@jiggylookback I guess it's similar to or like the equivalent between Chihuahuas and Mastiffs. Both are still dogs despite the size difference, just different breeds/subspecies. Like how Diddy has a tail or Lanky is pretty much an Orangutan, but both can still be considered Kongs. I don't know if there's one standard of Kremling or what would make them all easily classifiable as Kremlings aside from being crocodile-like. Another guess is that maybe K. Lumsy was exposed to the energy underneath Crocodile Isle or in the Lost World.
@@jiggylookback I do get that some people may like other DK games better, but what I REALLY don't get are the people who say DK Arcade is better than DK64. I mean, DK Arcade is IN DK64, you have to beat that to beat the game. You literally get the entirety of DK Arcade plus the rest of the game in DK64. So how can you say DK Arcade is better? That's like preferring just a a wheel to the entire car.
Nice vid, JLB! By the way, are you aware of the DK64 Kiosk Restoration Projection? I can tell I am a huge DK nerd now because seeing those extra live balloons being collected makes me so happy, LOL!
@@jiggylookback I got so excited that I missed that it's fan-made I skipped that part I got over excited it's not going to be made by Nintendo it's a fan project
this theory is flawed because crocodiles are carnivores. unless they plan to lore the kongs into a trap by using the gold bananas. so, king K.rool and his minions can eat them. as for king k.rool's brother. i don't think he eats his own kind. I think he eats something else because the skull on his head has horns and crocodiles don't have horns.
False. This isn’t real world logic lol. Klump eats oranges so you’re already incorrect. It’s also highly suggested they do like bananas in the country games. You can explore the wiki for it. Though it could be to make the Kongs starve. K Rool does hate the Kongs. And also Krusha has horns…
@@thebirdguardien.14 I get that, but what you said makes no sense…you called my theory flawed…it isn’t unless we were talking about reality here which we aren’t lol.

Cranky could technically be donkey Kong's father and grandfather
@@acacacacacacaccaca7666 he’s both 😱😱🤯
Loved this a lot!
Heck yeah!
3:40 At this point, your explanation for why K. Lumsey and the giant Kosha are enormous in size sounds like an explanation they would use in a comic adaptation. Maybe around the early 2000’s.
I wish I could write a DK comic. That would be amazing.
You forgot to talk about why the island is shaped lik Donkey Kong's head, why we never see the laser on the ship fire, why they recycled 2 bosses, and who built the mechanical fish in Gloomy Galleon and why.
I wouldn’t say I forgot lol there are tons of weird things going on. I’ll definitely have a part 2 at some point!
@jiggylookback
Also, there are only 2 ways to get a Game Over, and dying is surprisingly not one of them. Its quitting and failing tomstop the Blast of Matic.
@@addambelmont3050 that’s a great point!
Thanks for confirming that voice wasn't Satan
You’re welcome. Just wanted to be clear with everyone!
Rool.
Right? Like real quick
The get out voice scared my brother and I as children. We dreaded hearing it so much
Me too lol
All this time I thought the Kong buttons in K. Rool’s throne room were dartboards, with their pictures being that big so he’d never miss or something
Haha good idea 😂
I thought this was going to be about real mysteries, such as the Control Room underneath DK Isles
I mean isn’t that the cutscene control room?
I always wondered how K. Lumsy was even locked up to begin with. He'd not get locked in a cage willingly, unless he fell for a trap set by kremlings. Or the bosses like Dogadon and Mad Jack pushing him into the cage.
Typical older brother bullying makes him not realize how big he is lol
You really love DK64. You're just as passionate about it as I am for Perfect Dark and Conkers Bad Fur Day
I do love it! I love Rare in general tho! But yeah DK64 has a special place in my heart! It was my first N64 game and the N64 was my first console :)
First game I ever played tho was Sonic on Genesis!
I gotta secret to tell come closer "i love dk64 " from top to bottom
@@catchall4574 chunky is DK’s father lol 😂
@jiggylookback maybe i have no idea or is chunky the baby Kong from dkc3 ?
@ no chunky is actually the big brother to Kiddy Kong. And Tiny is the sister to Dixie Kong.
Chunky is Tiny and Dixie’s cousin and not directly related to DK. As far as I know
@jiggylookback omg 😳
Yeah I’m aware of the tweet.
Still would like to get a DK jr reference or connection in other games lol I hate it just disappeared
Hmm good question! It was his until he got upgraded.
Why does Croc give you a warning? Simple. He's a snoipah, snoipahs are professionals, professionals. have. standards.
I always thought it had to do with the spinning tower you feed peanuts to with Diddy. If you notice, they both have the same voice. Perhaps he’s guarding the tombs, and has to threaten you if you take the bananas.
I loved watching this video too and this is another game I have never played because I never owned a Nintendo 64 console.
The GET OUT voice is Doctor Claw. He’ll get us next time. Nah but he does remind me of Claw
Lol ahh yes Dr. Claw!
The game glitched once for me on the Get out voice, I think I got hit by something just before 00 hit and the music kept playing and I was able to move around, I think I was Chunky Kong, it was in Crystal Caverns.
That is a dope sounding glitch

I noticed the Get Out voice is the same as one of the Orcs from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King!
Whaaaaaaaa

Right it’s Kroc.
But he and K. Rool are brothers. Pretty dramatic size difference.
@@KhakiCube but other Kremlings are similar sizes to him. Idk it’s a mystery haha.
I like the theory of Kroc being the reticle. That’s funny!
I enjoyed this video I usually never say this too short I kind of want it more I really enjoyed this video

I do get that some people may like other DK games better, but what I REALLY don't get are the people who say DK Arcade is better than DK64. I mean, DK Arcade is IN DK64, you have to beat that to beat the game. You literally get the entirety of DK Arcade plus the rest of the game in DK64. So how can you say DK Arcade is better? That's like preferring just a a wheel to the entire car.

@1:51 I hate Satan so much…
this theory is flawed because crocodiles are carnivores. unless they plan to lore the kongs into a trap by using the gold bananas. so, king K.rool and his minions can eat them. as for king k.rool's brother. i don't think he eats his own kind.
@@jiggylookback yeah. but i meant in Reality crocodiles are carnivores which mean king krool and his minions can't eat fruit or veteable.
