Iden There is a difference. Japanese can be written in less time due to how it takes less written words to express the dialogue. Thus it takes less time for characters to talk. It’s a pretty small time save but when you’re trying to beat the fastest record in a game (almost) entirely based on speeding through levels. Every second counts EDIT: I didn’t know this game could have different spoken dialogue and written dialogue (aka, you can have Japanese audio and English text).

I have an update, friends, if anyone cares still. Playstation Now is usable on PC, and last I checked, Sonic Unleashed is one of the games on the service. It completely slipped my mind. My laptop sucks so I can't confirm how well it plays, but it's an option.
It's a shame that people didn't give this game the credit it deserves. The game's an absolute gem. Because of people whining over the Werehog, we don't get either a remastered version or a sequel. Sonic Forces is hardly on pair with this. Such an ambitious game. Sega did all they could to make sure this game was the greatest of them all an people just blew it...
It's solely based on what the formula of a game is about. Sonic's trademark thing is going fast and if a majority of the game is not going fast, "hardcore fans" are going to dislike it. Its not just Sonic games, many people disliked Pokemon SM and USUM because it did not follow the typical formula or previous games (and for other less technical reasons too) I personally enjoyed Sonic Unleashed, it's always great to try something different.
Eggmanland in 5min? My fastest is whatever one needs it to be to beat the hotdog guy's fastest time trial. XD This is truly amazing. And to think it can be done even faster (if the run were to be perfect).
it could be a bit faster on the PS3 since the Xbox version is 30 FPS only and ya can do alot on the PS3 like jailbreaking and forcing the console to get better FPS in low FPS areas, i did it, but it's burning my PlayStation 😂
The biggest reason it looks so much better is because most of the other games focused more on FPS and looking good enough, this was also the last Triple A Sonic Game so they had more budget, but I'm hoping the next 3d game after forces can use the Hedgehog Engine 2 closer to it's potential (btw it's just a graphics engine not a game engine) because it is stronger than the original

I mean yeah. Sonic Forces really fails in level design and stage length. The graphics are fine and the framerate is amazing though. Luckily they were awake when choosing wisp placemensts. Most of the time when you were given a boost wisp you were safe to use it without falling so that was well designed in the levels. The bosses were also pretty good in Forces, even though a little easy.
Actually, Sonic is stated to run at Hypersonic speeds, faster than sound, he's estimated to go Mach 35, the high end of Hypersonic speed. So yeah. . . Also is stated to run at the speed of light in Unleashed, but that,would be scientifically impossible since Sonic has mass, but even Sonic exaggerates to run at Light speed so... idk maybe?
I couldve beat it on Wii, the problem was I didnt get to finish it 😐. I was 8 when I got Unleashed, I almost beat it then someone swapped my game out for that shitty just dance game and my disc just disappeared. I spent one day crying and gave up. Luckily I own this on Xbox One now.
I have not the most memories of this game but I remember levels I spent hours on aka day time water levels (not really hours many 1-2)and one of the ones in the Chinese part night time and I (literally took days) and egg man land I barely remember but we all had the same experience and I got to the final and never beat it

I mean, you normally aren't supposed to be flying through the stage there, and the camera/stage design is set in a way so that you normally can't see or notice the pop in.
Weirdly I always thought the frame rate drop during heavy boost sections added an extra sense of speed, literally as if the console couldn't keep up with Sonic's speed.
Sonic games are one of the few games that can look really good for speed running, like any other games it just looks awkward when you're skipping over stuff, but with sonic games it makes it seem like sonic is actually doing some insane tricks, it's almost as if the game is meant to be speed runned, really appreciate how the team handled this, wish more games in the future could be this great.

This is a great game. Very underrated and with poisonous bad press back in the day. The level design is amazing, you have actual plataforming (not just boosting through the whole level) both in sonic and werehog stages, various bosses and supersonic. The only criticism I can make is the same music over and over in all the werehog stages. That does become repetitive very fast.

Hey, not going to lie. I kinda like Sonic's Japanese Voice Actor in this game. Still prefer Jason Griffith though. There's something in the way the japanese actor says Go! that just sounds awesome to me.
This game was far BEYOND a good game in that time just amazing still to this day.
So many exploits, glitches, and frame rate drops, imagine us all playing like him as kids

Way, way too many half-assed 2D levels.

Well he did beat the stage in 5 minutes but it also depends how much enemy’s you defeat and how many rings you have to get a S rank
