Thanks again for uploading this series for us. I've been enjoying watching it very much. A long shot I know, but here's hoping that the episodes from series one and two may be recovered one day 👍🙂
Thanks for that. As the years go by I guess the odds of a late find of series 1 and 2 being found - but you never know. Next Fiday there's an upload of a 2008 documentary on Ace of Wands, with several of the actors appearing.
I’m hooked great little series , love that trio the mind bender , the brave heart and the tec geezer , up against the colonial mamma and papa bureaucratic, machine . Destroy the machine . Obvious.
Well at least it ended with a bang. What a strange series; a decent core idea, a great name and a fantastic theme tune. All of it let down by poor scripts, wooden dialogue and disappointing, barely explained, payoffs. I thought the episodes with Brian Wilde were the best. The less said about Mama Doc the better. Would have been interesting to see what the BBC could have done with it, as there’s a good show in there somewhere. Maybe the first two, sadly lost, series are that good show.
I'd probably agree with Mama Doc as the worst. Peacock Pie is often sited as the favourite. Overall though I think the titles and theme tune are the best thing about it.
I rate it very highly for its time given the the resources available to children's TV and the period's slower pacing. The payoffs seem appropriate to the purpose: you can't go around blasting baddies' heads off in an apolcalyptic showdown at teatime! The boldness of the concept and the with-it vibe for me more than makes up for any shortcomings. Some of the earlier stories are highly rated by those who took part of remember them (some audio survives to give an idea of what's missing): had it been given more time and resources to develop, it could have given Dr Who a run for its money (and it's one of my favourite Who periods).
Thank you for bringing this series up. I've enjoyed discovering it!
You might be interested in seeing a documentary on the programme, made in 1978, which will appear this coming Friday.
Thanks again😊
I find it hard to believe, but the actress who plays Emm is now 80 years old. Thanks for sharing this series which I'd never seen before.
Indeed.
