I live in the states now but when I get really home sick I often come here and just close my eyes and think about the green grass, blue skies, the friends and family, and my community and my country that I love so much.
there is a certain nostalgic quality when a heartwrenching melody like this is sung by its original people, you can almost see and feel the original lover singing for his love in these Maori boys.
This song will always have a special place in my heart . It used to be my dad's favorite song when he came back from NZ . Pokarekare ana . Going there someday.
One of the most beautiful love songs ever . . . It makes my think of Rotorua and the lake with the island where the lad Tutaniki sung this song so Hinemoa could follow his voice over the water, so they could be together. I lived there for over 40 years.
That was captivating and so so beautiful. I remember singing this song that same year at Choral/Big Sing for Aotea College. I would say out of my 5 years participating in The Big Sing, this would be my favourite song. So glad I stumbled upon this video. Bought back many fond memories. Thank you Aorere College
my mama is from new zealand and always used to sing this to me as a kid. ive only been there once but i feel like the forests and hills there are my home and always will. this song reminds me of that and this was beautiful, well done dudes.
01:40 ok boys - fess up - do you all share the same aunty that did the helmet cuts? On a more serious note this was a tear jerker for A Scottish-South African - I hope you're all well almost 10 years later. Legends.
I am having a bit of trouble understanding some of the English. I think what I'm hearing is: "My words unspoken soak up my heart. My love forever remains your own. ??? return again. My heart is yearning. I miss you so." Lovely performance. ❤

I would have loved to hear them do all the verses! So good to hear a song written by a man for a maiden being sung by men. No disrespect forr the quality of their voices but it isnt a song from a girls perspective

Ayeeee nice nice
This is choral singing of the first order. Beautiful arrangement. matchless harmonizing. wonderful clear diction. 11 out of 10 to the conductor too.

Why can I only like this once? So incredibly beautiful!
@Graham Haynes, anything that follows is called 'still like it'
Perfect. This melody is an NZ anthem.

Emma Miron theres one version but people just change to where there from. It waiapu
"The Water of Rotorua" doesn't sounds right to me. It should be "The Water of Waiapu" don't you think so?
