    I joined a lion dance group last november and it is one of the funnest experiences I've had! I haven't been a lion yet but I have performed in the band. :-) I love the lion dance! Thank you for posting this video! I've learned more about the dance

    Drunk means when you start to get goofy, and not "normal" anymore in terms of behavior, that is already drunk. Never drink past this line and you will be fine. Liquor is also a health booster in the ancient time, saving weak patients from fainting!

    I am practicing Lion Dancing with my Kung Fu school (Jow Ga Kung Fu Academy, Sydney, Australia) right now for the upcoming Chinese New Year! This was very interesting, and the bit about the mirror I never knew! Thank you!

    Oh of course not, I enjoy your comment a lot! Keep them coming! "real" chi kung is use for conditioning your organs, the body and improving health. To start practicing chi kung properly, you must learn from a master who know what he is talking about - such as me, LOL! If you like you can try a class with me and see if you like it. email me - celestialmastermak AT chiinnature D O T com, we can talk about this there and you can ask me anything you like. :) Keep commenting my vids anytime! XD

    back in the early 80s I was taught the segment of the lion dance called The Dance of the Seven Stars. I had a lot of fun being part of that. It was an honor for our kung-fu school to perform the lion dance. I don't know if there is a difference between the Shao- lin ( Buddhist) version and the Taoist version, but I believe the northern lion is gold whereas the southern lion is red.
    Anyway, thank you for the trip down memory lane.

    Thank u for sharing! My children and I had just watched a video where they were dancing. My children had lots of questions about the Lions and how they worked and what event was taking place. We messaged the people from the video to learn more and then we saw this and all of our questions about the lion costumes were answered! We are very excited about that. My daughter who is 10 years old would like to say a few things. Here she is. " I thought the costume was pretty cool, I've never seen anything that worked like that. It's super neat! I like how the Dragon symbolizes your culture. Thank you for sharing that, bye!"

      lion dance you mean? Lion dance itself is not limited to the religion, some do it for martial arts too. But in our religion we also have this skill / subject. You can check out my vid to know more about my religious side, there are some very deep lecture vids there and such that explains things to you more.

    Gung hei faat choi! The lion was used as a guardian dude starting from the Qin Dynasty already, and people put those big stone lions in front of the doors as guardians stuff. The horn is meaning that the lion is not a normal beast, it's a special type of legendary lion, also known for killing evils in the "legend". Of course, it's a legend thing only. The facial balls are for resembling the "energy" thing like the flame around the animal. But now, it is a real magic tool~

    Have you seen Jet Li's Socerer and the White Snake yet? I watched it last night and loved it because it dealt with monks exorcising demons and the monks were using musical instruments to fight them. I only mention it really because I remember one of Jet Li's first movie were he performs the Lion dance for some guy that they are trying to assassinate of coarse. Great info, I love all your videos just find more and more information.

    Nice exposition. Maybe you could explain some of the "puzzles" people are not familiar with like the 7 stars and moon, Kwan Kung overcomes the 6 passes or castles etc?
    And of course, others. I have played these but it seems younger generation is no longer interested. Also, maybe the relationship to "Oath of the Peach Garden" in the Hero's colors of the lions that represent them? Oh well, maybe too much...but thanks anyway. Keep up the good work.

    Yes because it's exclusive in TY Lineage only. Most temples only use kungfu style. This style is gear toward the CUTE side of lions, like a kitty, cute, soft, and fluffy. Think about it like a stuffed animal, not a "monkey possessed lion like object". LOL~ joking.. enjoy! Even the drumming is different.

    • @John5mith
      @John5mith 8 років тому

      there were no lions in ancient China, Chinese knew lions firstly when some kingdoms in central Asia sent a few lions to China as presents (there were lions in India subcontinent ),however most ancient Chinese didn't have a look of lions, today's images of lions in China are due to the Buddhism spreading from India to China (there are Gods of Lion in Hinduism and Buddhism )

    • @Chiinnature
      @Chiinnature  8 років тому +1

      The lion creature was not created based on a "real animal", it is actually an animal created out of a concept / theory, just like the animal of dragon in Chinese is not even a real animal either. There can be real animal that look like it, but it is not created because of that animal at all. It's an artificial animal created out of a concept that people want to bring out, like a concept put into the form of an art to express its deeper meaning. Looking at "real" lion to compare and reference to lion dance give you nothing but wrongs. It's not an "animal pretending dance". If it is really about the real lion, they should have shown you lion king's outfit lol

    Thank you but if you realize that this is "NOT" Lion dance as in the kungfu style of lion dance. What we are performing is Taoist ritual of lion dance, it's about magic, exorcism and so on, totally a different culture compare to the lion dance you used to see in Hung Gar, Choi Lee Fut, and so on in the kungfu world. In fact, one must need to learn a new set of standard to understand Taoism Lion ritual instead to understand this thing. Even the drumming is not the same.
