Thank you Dr. Pilcher. I’m 20 months post bypass and I’ve lost 130 lbs and am a healthy weight now. However my bp is 87/46 today and I’m experiencing some dizzy spells. I’ll contact my primary care Dr to discuss this. Thank you for your videos. I find them to be so very helps.
Im 7 years out and my blood pressure tend to balance from 90/40 on bad days to 100/50 or 100/60 on good days. The feeling when im low is awful. I sweat, i get nausea, dizzy and severe headaches. Ive been to the ER and got iv fluids. Ive also adviced my doctor but she isnt so concerned even tho she did agree its on the low side. Im trying to keep it up with liquid iv, and over a gallon of water a day along with compression socks daily but i feel im losing the battle mentaly. I already battle with lupus and pots syndrome so this adds to it all.
So sorry to hear about your struggles! I hope you have seen a cardiologist to evaluate the health of your cardiovascular system. If not, I think that would be an appropriate step. If you have an established cardiologist, you might ask them if they think a medicine called midodrine would be useful.
Thanks :) I keep mentioning this to my bariatric team (had Modified Duodenal switch ~5 months ago) and despite consuming over a gallon of water and some gatorade zeros per day (for the sodium), very often the room goes dark and i pass out. I also have weird 'tremors' when this happens, that makes my hands rapidly clench too. I just passed out again when getting out of bed and walking into the kitchen, so hoping these tools will help, since my bariatric team hasn't given me any of this advice despite me mentioning and alarming to this effect 5+ times.
Thanks for the positive feedback, and I know you mentioned that you have visited with your bariatric team already but I really think that you should try again with them. They need to help you with this situation.
Try liquid IV as well. I'm in the same situation. I drink well over a Gallon a day and can balance between 100/50 to 100/60 but on bad days I go 90/40 and feel awful.
Thank you so much for this video. I have had orthostatic hypotension for 8 months now but just diagnosed a month ago. Last week I was hospitalized for recurring syncope and they kept saying drink more and wear these socks and eat salt but nothing was really being explained no matter how much I asked. But this video made SO MUCH sense! Thank you! Would you happen to have any tips for people like me who have long term low blood pressure???
I would defer to your doctors, but salt and compression socks are usually the foundation of treatment. There is a medicine called midodrine that can be used to raise blood pressure, you may ask your doctors about that.
I've had this bad for 6 months and I finally fainted and woke up on the floor. Every time i get up after a period of sitting i go black as i hold on to the wall in 4 seconds it passes and i can see again. Went to ER. Blood pressure tested and have orthostatic hypotention and had some dehydration. No I don't drink enough water. It's so so hard. However my BP is so low now. My hemoglobin and hematocrit are at high and a tiny bit high for the last 7yrs and the weight loss after 1yr has not improved those. I'm dumbfounded why the blood didn't improve. Now i have two major issues since surgery. Im scared of a stroke. But ive lost 115lb and 100% of excess weight goal from surgery.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Just so you know, it's unusual and maybe not healthy for a patient to lose ALL of their excess weight. Your low BP might be a sign of nutritional strain/deficiency. Please stay connected with your bariatric surgical team!
@DoctorJP Thank you for listening. Forgot to add I lost 17lb of muscle from the weight loss. I'm sure that it didn't help so I am trying to go 10lbs lower than my goal to compensate as I still have stomach fat. This POTS and low BP is a new scary thing. It's no joke. Love your channel you are so helpful and give information so clearly. You are the best doctor I'm sure.
Thank you for your really informative videos. I have baseline low blood pressure, to the point where nurses are often surprised and ask me whether that's typical for me. I will of course discuss this with my surgeon, but in your experience, what does this mean for surgery and post-op? Does it pose any risks?
Same here especially after eating which of course it's normal but usually 90/40 is how low I go. I feel awful. During the day, I can go from 100/50 or 100/60 but very rare I go higher. I drink liquid IV to help stay around 50/60 diastolic because without water and liquid IV I'll stay around 40's all day. I'm 7 years out from surgery.
Thank you for this. Is it possible that this happens immediately after surgery. I am 3 weeks post op and the dizziness has not lit up. I hydrate well and do my proteins.
Glad you are hydrating well, but most likely your symptoms are caused by a relative lack of circulating blood volume. This other UA-cam may be helpful: ua-cam.com/video/u2UF68Ql-2U/v-deo.html
Hello, I'm nearly 6 weeks post gastric sleeve and I've monitored my bp since daily and the past week it's been 90/60 and normally I'm around 115/75. Could this be due to this? I have booked to see my doctor but the wait is a while. I've been a bit tired since surgery but no new symptoms. Hope you can help!
In my experience, at this early stage after surgery, a low blood pressure is more likely due to relative dehydration. This might be a helpful video: “Keto Flu” after Bariatric Surgery ua-cam.com/video/u2UF68Ql-2U/v-deo.html
Thanks for your question Ashley. Sleeve could be a good solution, but since it's unusual to have hypoglycemia *before* bariatric surgery this is definitely something you should discuss with your surgeon.

I am going through this . I am on blood pressure meds is hell
not sure about your timing from surgery, but usually this passes as you get closer to a year from surgery, then beyond
Addicted to these videos - very informative and clear!

I'm suffering from light solder pain. And inner stiches pain
I had turbinates reduction surgery. And my blood pressure is very low now. 76/56. I am not sure if my blood pressure was normal before the surgery.
I recommend for you to contact your surgical team without delay.

Hello, I’m six months out of surgery (RNY) and started with hypostatic hypotension. Does it get better?
Yes, usually your body adjusts with time. Nevertheless, I recommend for you to follow up with your bariatric team.
@@DoctorJP can you do a video on gastric bypass reversal for people who had complications?
