Marc V. I absolutely agree! I’d like to add the „Decades“ SDX though, together with the Death & Darkness and the core. I could basically sell all other libraries

Hey buddy ... well, I told you that it would be awesome if you start to dive into the drum sample world. I mean, just looking at the sound you already get from your module. It's really not that complicated, however, it needs some cash to start.
I know you’re talking about metal but I finally took your advice and listened to independence SDX. By the name it didn’t appeal to me but I put on my headphones and all I can say is WOW! The bass drums are the very best that I’ve heard, the snares are incredible and the floor toms are deeeep! If I only owned this one SDX I would be happy. I just bought SD3. It’s downloading now on section 3. No Xmas deal so I did it anyway. The indie SDX is on sale for $89 normally $149. Until Dec 30. Thanks for the tip..it’s AWESOME...I wonder if I can play some brushes with those and some cool blues. ..?. 😯
Really great video, Mike! I was searching for a SDX rock library, and this one is unbelievable! I have just SSD 3 Core library and this SDX is on my list now, to be a second Core, as you said! Thanks!
Great review! I have it, to play with a Roland TD-30, this is truly on of the best SDX for Superior drummer 3 for metal. Death library is top ! It Sounds more warm and modern than Darkness (witch one remind me The Metal Foundry SDX)
Awesome review! I am kinda dissapointed by the lack of any snares without the wire. I mean, I know very few people such as myself use snares without the wire in their kit, but what I know for a fact that metal snares, especially the bronze ones sound the best without the wire, there was a real opportunity for them to sample them and it would make this library perfect for me. Ah well, looks like that bronze Dunnet snare from the Rock Foundry will do.
If you already have SD3, the "basic" library already has some of those. You can always use one of these kits and add the wireless snares from the basic SD3 library - or any from any other expansion.
Awesome Review, awesome sounds! Will purchase this pack for sure. A question please Mike, you said in a video that you use external SSD to storage the Toontrack packs sounds. Which external SSD you use please? I think at least a 1Tb with an USB 3 to connect to the Mac? Love your videos. Thanks!
Hey! Thanks for the review! I agreed with you on the decades review for sure. Not really a metal drummer, but I like some hard hitting drum samples. What I thought was really different with the Decades release was the articulations / dynamics between very soft to loud were much better than any previous release. Are these drums sampled similarly? Are the dynamics as good as Decades? Sampling using vdrums of course. Thanks!
From my personal view, the Decades SDX is probably the best and most detailed sampled library they ever released. But the new Death & Darkness SDX is really close, I have to say. Even it's a so called "Metal Library", which is just marketing in the end as I stated in the video.
I stopped after hearing the Yamaha Recording Custom in Death SDX. This is the only kit I need. For all music. No third party presets or tweaking necessary. Also stellar when played on my Yamaha DTX900. This is my idea of a perfect drum sound.
It's slightly off center as well here. But that's an easy fix as you know. Just playing around with the pan knobs on the overheads to bring the snare to the center.
Great review in depth Mike, I love the sound of those drums. I also like your presentation, always telling some extra details and interesting things. Always a pleasure to watch my friend 😎👍👊🍺
GGD sounds amazing, without a doubt. The samples are already processed though, which is not a bad thing, but you need to take this into consideration. Toontrack gives you more options and flexibility in shaping the sound. So it really depends on your needs.
@@MikeLuke I agree. I use GGD a lot and mixing their products is a breeze, but the end result always sounds like Periphery (not a bad thing at all, just a very specific sound). Mixing SDX is significantly more challenging but they are indeed more flexible.
Thank you Mike. Great vid series. Love the new sounds. Bought the LIB, it's fantastic!
Hey Dirk, thanks for watching. Appreciate it
Very versatile, more than I expected...
I appreciate the time you put into all 3 videos, Mike.
I appreciate you stopping by and watching it. Thanks!
Oh yes. I was waiting for this. I was almost decided but had to wait for your review. Now I'm buying it 100%.
You won't regret, it's really massive.

Yup. Got it today. So worth the money. The drums and sounds are incredible.
Thanks Mike, great review, keep up the good work.
Cheers buddy!
Thanks for the review, it really sounds great! I already made a lot of presets with this one
Was hoping you were going to cover this pack, thank you!
Thanks Kevin, glad you like it.
great video, very informative, thanks for the breakdown!
Damnit Mike! Every time I hear these new kits it makes me want to sample my kit! Arrrgh! Thanks for making me jealous once again haha! Awesome

Excellent Mike. Thank you very much.
Great Video. I will definitely have to get that. Keep up the great work.
Tama Star classic with the Paiste sounds just like Copeland. I’m sold, along with the Yamaha recording custom.

Hi. I would like to know how to make Death & Darkness SDX an excellent drummer?🙂
this would be good for rock too
I stopped after hearing the Yamaha Recording Custom in Death SDX. This is the only kit I need. For all music. No third party presets or tweaking necessary. Also stellar when played on my Yamaha DTX900. This is my idea of a perfect drum sound.
Yes, the Recording Custom is probably one of the most versatile drum kits you can use in a studio. From pop to metal, always fits.
Is the snare drum centered in the overhead mic channel? A few other SDX libraries had the snare off to the side in the overhead stereo image
It's slightly off center as well here. But that's an easy fix as you know. Just playing around with the pan knobs on the overheads to bring the snare to the center.
Is it the whole sdx with top/bottom mic toms or just Death library?
Hi Mark, it's just the Death Library.
When you purchased Superior drummer did you get the metal drums all together or did you get the product itself then grasp the metal editions?
It’s the latter. The pack I showcased here is an expansion pack which you need to purchase separately.
Great review. Funny that you mentioned Lars Ulrich because that China reminds me of And Justice For All album so much.
It's a Zildjian china and Lars plays Zildjian as well, if I am not wrong.
@Mike Luke almost every drummer in history has no doubt touched a Zildjian at one point in thier career
34:50 sounds absolutely killer
Great review in depth Mike, I love the sound of those drums. I also like your presentation, always telling some extra details and interesting things. Always a pleasure to watch my friend 😎👍👊🍺
Thanks so much for stopping by, Rob. I always think I talk too much and waste people‘s time! UA-cam Videos should be shorter, I guess 🤷♂️
Mike Luke they aren't to long and you are always telling interesting things 👍
Have you used GGD Invasion before? Any opinions on this vs Invasion?
GGD sounds amazing, without a doubt. The samples are already processed though, which is not a bad thing, but you need to take this into consideration. Toontrack gives you more options and flexibility in shaping the sound. So it really depends on your needs.

I have a basic superior drummer 3, do i need to reinstall for Death darkness?
You just need the basic library to install any other expansion, but yes, you need it.
How the hell do you call out the drum kit menu from the middle of the screen? :D
anybody know off hand the total size of the core and all expansions? I have the core package so far and fell in love on my td-25
can these drum libraries be bought alone and used within AD2?
No, you need Superior Drummer 3 in order to use them.
@@MikeLuke thought so. Thanks for the reply
Lucky dude. I need to start doing reviews ;-)
Of course! There can’t be enough reviews online, buddy 😎

Gotta admit, the pool kits hit a niche drum sound that I am always seeking, it's funny how perfect it is for me. That's the exact sound I love
It has a very unique sound to it, unheard so far. And for me it sounds a bit more raw and less "polished" than the Death library.
Yes,of course with NO water 😂😂😂👌👌👌🤘🤘🥁🥁
I love how death and darkness are promoted in a screenshot with the most obnoxiously yellow kit haha
Hahahaha, yes, just noticed it. Should have used the other kits probably. Anyways, at least this is more eye catching, isn’t it? ;)
Easily the best sdx and for me also best sounding , value and versatile drum sample libary outthere....by far best plugin investement 2019 for me;))
I've noticved that more than one SDX is over 150GB in size! WTF? At this rate we'll need a stack of external HDD just to use our libraries.
It's too bad that most packs are geared for metal. We need more jazz, R&B etc.. packs.
Agreed.
90% of this video is just you talking... please
