Haltech ECU’s are known to work on Lamborghini v12’s, and they even have a transmission control system that might let you bypass the Lamborghini lockouts.
This is the smartest comment. Call Scotty & Co. Get them on board as a sponsor. Once you build proficiency with Haltech builds its a portable skill to every future build. Suddenly ECU concerns are no longer a huge problem, instead just items on the shopping list.
Haltech might be a little peeved that they were on the show before (as a sponsor?) and Chris said it was too complicated for him, ripped it out, replaced it with Holly stuff. And Chris has been singing the praises of Holly ever since.
I think the main takeaway is that maybe its time to invest in hiring a producer who can take care of planning, scheduling, etc. I think the problem isn't SEMA as a deadline but rather a track record of under estimating the effort and starting projects with way too little time to get it done in time. This isn't really a "Chris failed" problem so much as "Chris is trying to wear too many hats and is spread too thin". If an administrative planning person had told you to lay off the boat a month earlier to get working on the SEMA build all these problems go away. Also consider doing SEMA projects earlier in the year. They don't need to be finished 15min before the show opens. They can be done 6 months early.
@@normp3273 Exactly, I'd never want to rush the work on an asset worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Not to mention safety stuff. Do you really want to drive a car that was put together in a state of exhausted delirium?
Restoring the Murci while maintaining the Cyber Punk motif on a replica construction is a win-win situation! Maintain that V12 and switch to an Audi or Porsche transmission, or go for Hewland or something like.
The problem is that there is NO way to fit any other type of transmission with that V12, is not possible because of the way the engine is mounted, the transmission basically goes between the driver and the passenger, so if he wants another transmission, the engine has to go.
Rotary would sound badass, but honestly something I’ve never seen on UA-cam and I have no idea the price or if it’s even possible but could a viper srt10 swap be possible?
I've been watching you build SEMA cars for at least 3 years and you've never had one done before SEMA started. You've always been finishing them in the show the morning before.
Agreed. Manual swapping would go a long way towards bypassing the annoying hardware and software headaches associated with automated manuals. There's a whole cottage industry dedicated to manual swapping old Aston Martin Sportshift and Ferrari F1 gearboxes.
I think people are getting tired of the SEMA builds being built in days, rather than the months that they deserve. Your skills and imagination are incredible but we can't wait for a build that gets done with time.
I think that’s what he is saying. If they don’t put the time into a build well before the shoe so that they can get out ready in a free days, they aren’t going to do it. The time on the project will be far in advance.
I have a Murcie Roadster in San Diego (another place besides Dubai you can park it roofless, haha) and I would love you to come drive it. I suspect your E Gear was not running correctly from the get go - it’s not nearly as bad as you describe IMO. Likewise once you get the car sorted, it should be pretty reliable software wise. Folks like Ed Bolian and others have put tens of thousands of miles on theirs without it needing much more than oil changes and clutches. I am so happy to hear you’re returning this to a more OE look, while also letting the SEMA build live on in a replica. Well done, loved the series!!
I've seen limp mode activated by the stability control system. And in your video the alignment is off. Try fixing that before swearing at the clutch (transmission) reset by disconnecting the battery and see if it relearns.
As a very long term viewer, it makes me very happy for you to slow down and take SEMA more seriously. It wasn't sustainable. Hate the idea of not keeping this cyberpunk though, best lambo on UA-cam EDIT: didn't watch all the way to the end before commenting. Starting again with a shell makes a lot of sense..
Super happy to hear your statement @ 6:00 …I love your build content but I actually said out loud to myself to one of the last vids before SEMA, “Dude! You just beat f@ckin cancer! Don’t do this to yourself!!!”
Good on you for acknowledging that rushing does no good for anyone and promising to change that. Takes a man to acknowledge a fault. But hearing you wanting to tear the whole thing down to a light stock modified murci is heartbreaking....... It's the best looking car you have ever made and probably one of the best looking lambos in the entire world.
Can you not just get aftermarket ecus to run the engine and box, eliminates the lamborghini electronics issue altogether? Loving the idea of the Tes-Lambo. It's going to be epic. Please do it.
I vote keep the v12 and try and get the company to make you a deal for the manual conversion. That along with a good tune and some upgrades will make you love it. Leave the LS to the replica with the cyberpunk theme. I want to say, everyone wants you in good health and are glad to hear you say that you will keep that a priority for you and those around you. Proud of you for that man!
You should keep it as it is with its v12 and auto transmission! You could just swap out the old ecu to an aventador ecu, or find a way to just reprogram the whole ecu software without the lamborghini computer. But I really enjoy this build! It looks amazing, and it will be cooler if you fix the damage parts and the dents to make it look like a full restored cyberpunk murchiallago!
Restore the Murci and keep the Cyber Punk theme on a replica build... that's a win win! Keep that V12 and use a porsche or audi gearbox or keep your out for hewland or similar
Like your vision for phase 2. If it were me, I'd really try to find a way to keep the Lambo V12. This engine traces its roots back to the '60s; earlier versions ran carbs. It must be possible to either run a non-lambo ECU or go analog if local laws allow. Apparently, the carb'd versions of this (6 Weber's, I think) are the best sounding. Stand alone engine ECUs exist. Not sure how that needs to interact with the AWD and other systems, but that's the same issue with an LS swap. If The Questionable Garage could get a Holley ECU to run a Ferrari V8, maybe something similar here could work?
I absolutely love the sound of the Lamborghini v12 with a great exhaust. It would be great just seeing this restored to factory with some body modifications. And then do the Model 3 version with none of the cool sounds.
Fair play Chris and i love the plans for the Merci, can't wait. Would really love you to stay with the V12 though, even if it is just for the noise. I know you say you can make others sound good but it is not the same, the V12 is the soul of that car.
I love the idea of you keeping a v12 in there, just to say you didnt engine swap at least one build. It definitely sounds expensive but would be sooo cool to say you did a fullish restore on one build at least

The same day that I sold it, I found out that I could have snuck it in with my house hold goods! Another huge kick in the nuts! I had planned to motor swap it for a little more power and better parts availability, but NOPE the EPA shut me down on that. That was 30 freaking years ago....

Maybe MrJWW could help you out with a Manual conversion, as he is doing that exact thing to his new Merci, gotta be worth talking to him, if you haven't already!
@Chrisrod619 for the body kit yes, as he did that front end on his, but Damons Merci was always a Manual, however MrJWW (James) is doing the actual full Manual swap, like Chris wants to do.
I think the build, while rushed, turned out amazing. I also understand that you’re making a visually striking vehicle, not a performance vehicle. I think a lot of your viewers get lost in that translation, unfortunately. As a model car enthusiast and die cast custom car fabricator I love what you did. I think putting in the extra time to performance after Sema is a great direction!
I don't think anything will come close to the Driftworks GT1 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. An amazing looking car, well worth watching the build on it.
Definitely spot on here. Probably my favorite Murcielago in existence. Just the engineering that had to go into the door hinge setup to clear everything is incredible.
Its good to hear your taking a more healthy approach to these SEMA builds. No car build is worth killing yourself over. Quality over quantity and speed is a better approach to these builds. I know you have kind of made a reputation for yourself with crunching a crazy build into a short time frame but at what cost. Sometimes it's better to miss the show 🤷♂️ I was so looking forward to the tesla powered Murciélago. So it's great to hear you might still do it. There's a guy on UA-cam that built a roadster out of a tesla. It took him a few years to finish it but its really cool. Cyber hooligans i believe is his channel name. The years of dedication to stay focused on a build is amazing to me.
I'm a custom cabinet builder and when customers ask for distressed cabinets there's actually a standard 50% upcharge. It takes way more time and more steps to make something look "distressed". The truth is that you aren't just throwing it together and moving on. You care about the end result and when you're creating art it's different. These are the builds that I love to see on your channel. Fantastic end result Chris!
Chris thank you for taking the time to meet with your fans. My buddy who goes to SEMA every year was guided by me to find you. You were gracious enough to take a photo with him which he shared with me back in Montana. It made my day to have him find you and see your amazing build. Hats off to you and your team for putting in the work and making this cyber punk Murci pull together.
I've been around since the beginning of this channel. We have been saying for years to stop waiting until the last minute to build your SEMA cars. Leave the V12 and try to work a deal on the manual swap. Halltech may be able to help with an ECU swap.
Chris you and the team kick so much ass the only thing we can do as viewers is thankyou for everything you do and you are awe inspiring and give many of us the motivation we have been looking for and the endurance we need to run our personal races and trials and thankyou for being such a great influence and person and being so genuine with ur own life issues all these years🎉 cheers to you brother
I know theres so much pain involved, but you gotta keep the V12... it's less about the sound and more than it's not just an LS anyone can throw into any car
The car in terms of looks, right now, is just amazing, I hope you dont bring it back to stock, but keep the body kit and make all that a refined/clean/new modified Murci. Your rear tail lights are just so clever and neat. Would keep it so unique and a head turner. The powertrain looks like a headache though, manual would also be great to see being done, but then you are waiting for something else expensive to break. That bit is difficult to decide.
Chris love the car. Do what works for you. We love watching it anyway, regardless of the internals in the car or boat the crazyness of it all is what makes it so appealing.👍🏼
Chris, I loved the custom headlights, taillights, bodykit, and restoration of the interior but I felt like a cyberpunk super car was a horrible idea. The Murcielago deserved better body work to the significantly damaged parts that your car had. By leaving all those things damaged and stressing them with black paint was a bad idea bro. I know what you’re capable of but I know that you didn’t give yourself enough time to give what the car needed without stressing yourself out and your crew. Hopefully, you can make some corrections and restore it back to a better looking Murci with a 1 of 1 bodykit. Lesson learned bro.
I saw another channel find the insanely large panel gaps on the trunk… but it still looked amazing considering the amount of time you put in this project.
I love to see your SEMA builds each year but I agree you should make them earlier in the year, don’t rush them make lots of detailed content then just roll it out when SEMA comes. I think you should leave the build as it is but replace the motor. So unique and tells a great story.
btw, manual converting these is subposed to be fairly easy, just take the actuator system out and put in a manual selector system, its already a manual box, it just has actuators shifting for you
Dude, no offense but stop calling yourself a professional car builder or professional anything. What you do on this channel is still entertaining even as an amateur, including the semi-chaotic way you go at things.
Just at the start of the video but so glad to hear that you will plan to complete well in advance of SEMA in future! You were pushing it beyond all levels of reason. Anyhoo, car is fantastic and so glad you stayed with the correct Engine / chassis. The body and all of the development work you did is just crazy! So Cool
If you swap it ,it becomes a kit car ,you can build that without using a real Murcie as the basis . Keep the v12 ,put a standalone on it and look into possibly getting a Holinger M6S sequential transmission ,you can offset the cost a little by selling the original transmission.
I say "just" knowing all too well it is a UGE endeavor. Just repin the V12 and transmission harnesses. Haltech has a platform for this, as does fuel tech. You mentioned Dahm, he goes over the top. Your best fix is cutting out the garbage. Super hard work, but worth it in the end. $10,000 in transport fees, or $10,000 in a system you will never have to pay for again, be able to tune, and has increased its reliability, as well as simple diagnosis.
1) BRAVO on finlly acknowledging that these crunch days before SEMA are not healthy for anyone. 2) Same here, wasn't feeling the car through the process but my god does it look DOPE. 3) 100% agree on keeping this one clean (and with Haltech ECU as mentioned in other comments) and try the cyberpunk + Tesla on the fiberglass fake lambo, I would LOVE to see that project!
If it were me. I'd do the factory manual swap and rewire the stock v12 with a after market ecu like megasquirt ,link , haltech etc. Gets Rid of the pesky factory ecu while giving you more options for turbo or other power adders and gadgets. Either way still gonna be cool to build both versions ;)
Honestly If you want to go LS you should just go LT and throw C8 ZO6 engine/trans out of a crashed unit. You'll get the sound, transaxle, hp, all that good stuff
Yeah my first thought is that there must be someone who could use a aftermarket ecu or tcm to keep the original engine and transmission, might just take rewiring the entire harness. Might be worth the work
I think you should keep the original engine and transmission if you can find an aftermarket ECU to control both. If you do decide to swap out the engine and transmission, I'd suggest find something unique for your power train. No idea if it's feasible, too large, too expensive, or cost prohibitive, but what about V10 from a Viper?
I don't know if you want to spend the time to do this, but there may be an aftermarket ECU, like the ones for your boat, either specifically for this V12 or a general V12 that you could make a tune for. I think the brand you are using now is AEM? I mean a long block is a long block and if the only unreliable part of it is the ECU, find a way to modify the brain to be reliable. Just a thought. I like what you / your team is doing and the plan sounds solid. The hint at the end about the possibility of an electric Mercialago is rather tantilizing!
A Morthy is always about the V12 engine and it's sound, if you want a Lamborghini lookalike with an LS engine in it, use the kit car and sell the genuine Murcielago.
Gotta keep the V12. Haltech will work great to remedy the software issues but you can’t list all the characterful things that make this a Lamborghini, and then want to LS swap it and ruin all of then. Might as well put Scissor doors on a Camaro if that’s the main feature you want
loved the build. id MUCH rather keep the stock V12 because im a little tired of seeing the LS engines in everything. the V12 sounds SO much better. it sounds absolutely insane. I also would love to see a much less stressed Chris, love your personality and you just don't feel the same when you're under so much crunch.
I like keeping that build alive using the parts you mentioned. Do something radical with the real lambo, like swap in a Godzilla engine. They aren't cheap either but you could buy two for the price of the lambo v12. Probably a crazy amount of work though.
You should look at some standalone electric driveline components! You can get standalone motor controller and motor that is completely NOT locked down. YOu can make the car electric without having to put it on a Tesla chassis. Though no matter what you do, I am sure it will be amazing.
standalone is a pricy option that might work. your headlights and front end should stay with a repaired or vented fenders. the stock headlight shape just makes it blend in with the others online

I've been around since the beginning of this channel. We have been saying for years to stop waiting until the last minute to build your SEMA cars. Leave the V12 and try to work a deal on the manual swap. Halltech may be able to help with an ECU swap.
19:25 My brother!! ⚡️ DO IT!!!⚡️
Chris you and the team kick so much ass the only thing we can do as viewers is thankyou for everything you do and you are awe inspiring and give many of us the motivation we have been looking for and the endurance we need to run our personal races and trials and thankyou for being such a great influence and person and being so genuine with ur own life issues all these years🎉 cheers to you brother
Your work on this is so clear!
There’s a UA-camr who made a roadster out of a Tesla Model y I believe. And it looks insane. He gave it a crazy wide body and made it to a 2 seater.
The edits are on point, loved it!
The Murcielago looks great, thanks for taking a pic with me at Sema
The cyberpunk body on an electric is a must
Keep the V12, this is B is for Build!
N.B Your'll did an awesome job, the mercy looks sick 💯
Keep the V12
It’s good to hear your plans. Manual swapping it.
Keep the V12 pleeeaaaseee
I know theres so much pain involved, but you gotta keep the V12... it's less about the sound and more than it's not just an LS anyone can throw into any car
Honestly, I'd rather have you keep it cyberpunk-y. It is way more unique that way. But you do you, man. Just take some rest and I'm happy.
Can't wait to get back to the pontoon stuff!
no, we do not need that
Chris love the car.
What channel
@@ScottPC Electric Supercar - Jeremy did a "SEMA Bingo card"... pretty funny actually.
We need an update on the S is for Sink boat build
Keep the V12... the lack of reliability is TOTALLY the Italian supercar experience! :D
Brilliant explanation about where you are at in this build.
Go back to slightly modified OEM clean AF💪🏾 do the hard work you know it’s worth it
Dude this build was style wise not a fail at all! Super dope
I was super keen to see the electric Lamborghini and I think the panels you built shouldn’t go to waste. That’s my vote
Keep the v12 however swap with a manual sequential. Use a Haltech ECU and you’ll have an insane sounding and looking murci
Yeah my first thought is that there must be someone who could use a aftermarket ecu or tcm to keep the original engine and transmission, might just take rewiring the entire harness. Might be worth the work
Thanks for all the background info
I think you should keep the original engine and transmission if you can find an aftermarket ECU to control both.
If you do decide to swap out the engine and transmission, I'd suggest find something unique for your power train. No idea if it's feasible, too large, too expensive, or cost prohibitive, but what about V10 from a Viper?
You need to get Will from Throtl for the Tesla swap. Guy is a genius!
Dude, do exactly what YOU want…we are behind you!!!
Agree with others, keep the v12, manual swap it, get an ecu (like Haltech or other) and sell the Lambo ecu with harness. Well done!
Love the content, find the balance bro. Proper planning makes for perfect execution
Awesome show this year great build 🚗 plus great to meet you Chris 👍🏼💪 keep on building all the way from the uk 🇬🇧
Gotta keep the V12. Haltech will work great to remedy the software issues but you can’t list all the characterful things that make this a Lamborghini, and then want to LS swap it and ruin all of then. Might as well put Scissor doors on a Camaro if that’s the main feature you want
Lambo replica with tesla drivetrain sounds so cool!
B is for Broken lamBorghinis it sounds like. This build was so sick Chris! So good to see Chelsea on your channel too.
loved the build. id MUCH rather keep the stock V12 because im a little tired of seeing the LS engines in everything. the V12 sounds SO much better. it sounds absolutely insane.
