Amtrak doesn't always run where the people want to go. It's also a hassle ordering tickets from them. The website is not set up well. It would also help if Amtrak pulled IM or mail freight along with passengers, but I'm sure those that own the rail wouldn't allow it. A train from Chicago, using the UP Mainline, to Salt Lake, on to San Francisco would be a popular route, I'm sure, but it's not an option.
