More of a "tear to pieces" than a teardown, but hey, so it goes. The patient was not expected to survive the operation. It was entertaining (if slightly horrifying) and useful to me, also in possession of one of these devices. So thanks for posting.

What did you do to get the screen from somewhat working?

Thanks for posting this. I have the same FB Portal that suddenly just wouldnt turn on anymore even if I use a different power connector. I have been wanting to open it without damaging it and hope to somehow repair it if its something that just got loose inside.

I face the same issue and even new power adapter still doesn't turn the portal on. Any tips on how to recover its functionality will be very appreciated

Is there a power button anywhere? I have a message that states is on developer mode.

Now that the Facebook Portal is officially dead, I'm thinking about getting a used one to turn into a smart screen, small tv or something like that, because I like the design, I think it would look good in my kitchen. Do you have an idea for something similar for your device? I'm looking for more details on the lcd panel of this device to see if I can convert it and add an hdmi input (to plug a chromecast or a firestick).

Cool idea. I personally threw it away as I felt it wasn’t worth the effort to re-engineer it. You might be better off using the shell and exchange the inside with a raspberry pi or so and a known LCD.
You might get a fb portal for cheap and if you figure out the display maybe you only need a micro processor to turn the lcd on and such. Using the onboard micro would be another level imo.

@@RandomDIY09 You're right, I don't think it's worth reengineering this equipment, because if it had been a sales success, there would be more information about it on the internet. Thanks for your raspberry pi tip, I hadn't thought of that. Maybe I'll do this with an old iMac g4, which I can buy here in France for less than €30

Not sure, I also don’t have the board anymore. I saw what looks like a USB-C to me, that might be your way in.
