      @@ALinsdau Btw, one small question, would it ok NOT to use the audio interface? I am thinking about using 3.5 mm TRS from my computer to Dual XLR or Dual 1/4" TRS.

    I'm using 305 and 306 and the 310 subs in my surround sound system. They sound amazing and SAVED a ton of $$$. BTW: I'm a huge fan of Genelec monitors. For the prices JBL's are a steal.

    Nice review Aaron. I used to use the JBL Control 5's years ago in my studio and they were really nice.
    I have been looking for new monitors for my recording studio recently. I have been checking the Kali Audio In-5s and In-8s (version II), both are 3 way monitors. Both pairs get great reviews even compared to Genelec $4000 monitors. I think I am going to go with the new version II (with the In-8 models) for my situation. I thought I'd tell you about them as they are about 1/2 the price of the Adams when you're ready to upgrade. The In-5 and In-8 II models are $699 and $799 respectively. All the best.

    • @ALinsdau
      @ALinsdau  3 роки тому +1

      Technically, they're not designed for it - they're near field speakers. It's the acoustic design.
      However, that said, in my small office (10'x10'), they're more than loud enough to blast me out of the room if I turn them up too high. I have used them in the "non-designed" way quite a few times. I've even used them for watching movies before I bought a dedicated sound system.

    can I use the JBL 305 P with just TRS cable to my phone? or do I need an amplifier

    • @ALinsdau
      @ALinsdau  3 роки тому

      If you had a 1/4" TRS that'll hook to your phone, you need to make sure the signal is line and not amplified.

      I'm still using them and love them well on 2 years later. I love that they have 2 inputs. I have the TRS connected to my Scarlett and the XLR connected to my Senal volume control which is connected to my Amazon Echo. Best of both worlds from a single speaker pair.

    I'd like to ask 2 questions before I buy these babies...How do they manage the "hissing" issues that are soooo popular when speaking about studio monitors?..I mean, did you hear any hissing when you plugged them in?(also I will use XLR connection from the monitors to 1/4" jack connected to Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen).
    And the second question is: Is it true, these monitors have some kind of protection when they play too loud, so they automatically mute themselves?...Also thanks for the review. It was pretty informative.

    • @ALinsdau
      @ALinsdau  4 роки тому +1

      I have 1/4TRS -> 1/4TRS from my Scarlett 2i4 Gen 1 to the JBL monitors with zero hiss. However, when I have my Alexa Echo plugged in with a 1/8" to my Senal passive volume control (amzn.to/2XrUWHH), plugged into the XLR out of the Senal and into the JBL speakers, I do get a hiss. As soon as I unplug the 1/8" from the Alexa Echo, the hiss stops. And this is with the 1/4"TRS and XLR. Even the most subtle hiss drives me nuts so I go to great lengths to eliminate it.

    • @ALinsdau
      @ALinsdau  3 роки тому

      If you have a 1/8 in to a Senal to 1/4 TRS, I can hear a hiss. Just the XLR - silent. The 1/8 from a computer seems to be an issue, at least on my 2018 iMac.
