Best podcast I’ve seen on the ending and how it’s actually playing out. Sometimes I feel crazy talking about this with other ppl that think that was just Jenova pretending to be Aerith, but I’m glad there are others like you guys that see what I see.
@@Co-Op64 wdyat is the next game name? I think I got as seriously good idea based on some similarities I saw between the 3 games so far (2 mains 1 DLC).
A podcast mention?! Seriously made my day. 🥰 Having the co-op discord to talk about this game throughout the entire journey has been the best. Finishing the game last night has me feeling so many emotions. Great podcast discussion, thank you for putting this together!
3:34:54 Thank you SOO MUCH for putting respect on Tetsuya Nomura's name. I want to develop my own video games for major platforms one day and I draw a lot of inspiration from Nomura and Square Enix in general. Thank you sir!
44:24 the voice switching KIND OF happened in the original game, essentially Red talked using honorifics (basically a different way of talking in Japanese) which indicated that he was speaking like a adult/older man but when he got back to Cosmo Canyon he started using the honorifics that a child would use, basically kind of revealing he was a kid who was pretending to act older then his age.
For the Ps6 they need to release a version that has part 1,2,3 combined into one seamless adventure. That may make for the greatest video game of all time.
I would love that, but I feel the balancing and implementation would be near impossible without some serious limitations. But who knows, maybe they'll surprise us :)
Just found you guys today, wanted to listen to some other people's thought on Rebirth while I was at work and this is where I ended up. Wanted to make a quick comment hear about part of the ending. Zacks comment to Cloud when he gets dropped from the timeline "Save Her" I don't think is so much of him expecting her to be alive somewhere but comes from an earlier Zack scene where he talks to Marlene. In the scene she tells Zack that he needs to save Cloud because if he doesn't Aerith gets killed by a tall man with Silver Hair. Would love to talk about some other stuff involving the ending but I'm just on a quick break at work after I finished listening to the podcast. This was a fun listen I think I'll definetely be back to check out some of your other chats ^.^
first time i've come across this channel. been searching for rebirth content ever since i completed the game. love the conversation, feels like i'm listening to some buddies just nerding out over the game which i miss very much since i don't have any friends who are into this genre of games, but some feedback, hopefully yall don't take it personal. some bits were a bit tough to listen to when Connor was interrupting/talking over Nick and Nick never really got to finish what he wanted to say. I get that we're all excited about the game and I'm sure Nick doesn't mind but as a listener I wish Nick got a chance to finish speaking. I'm also sure he's not intending to come across that way but there were moments Connor came across as a bit of a know it all - "you know Chadley is an AI right?"
2:47:40 I agree. Based mostly on what we, the audience, was shown previously in the Zack segments, I think that Cloud created an alternate timeline although the original still happens. BUT since we are following the Cloud who made the new timeline, it's why we don't HEAR his 'death speech' or SEE her water burial. NOW it doesn't seem like Cloud KNOWS that's what's going on so I'm curious how his perceiving of both realities will affect his mental state (It sure as hell probably won't help).
In the og I wasn’t a aerith fan. I liked her but this re series has made her way more likeable. I agree. She has jumped to number two favorite ff7 character for me. But Tifa is still number one. Not cause of her looks either. I think it’s who she is to cloud. The childhood friend/crush. I think a lot can relate to that.
2:05:16 I think the weapons are newly formed weapons, and not the ones we know of in the OG. Those ones do exist already, but they’re dormant in the northern crater with Sephiroth (which is where jenova was unearthed). Rather than waking up the big guns, the planet decided to make a couple new weapons to watch over the situation, at least that’s what I’m hoping.
1:34:16 I think Rufus genuinely decided he wants to do his own thing, but Glenn showing up derails that, and by the end he’s started the war with wutai and is searching for the promised land again because of sephiroth’s meddling… in fact I’d argue that’s precisely why Sephiroth stepped in to meddle.
No one is talking about the Promised Land and how it is a central part of where this is all going and the Cetra. Also, it is unclear where the Centra went to; the story says they are almost extinct. I believe when Cetra die, they all go to the promised land and are stewards of the planet from that realm. This is where I believe Aerith goes when she dies and why the cetra need her to die. I believe she lives on in not just the life stream, but the fabled promised land that will be a huge story part and the conclusion of the third game.
The promised land is the lifestream. The afterlife. Were you go when you die. Aerith just retained her conciousnes in the lifestream to help defeat Sephiroth. The greedy shinra executives just weren't clever enough to figure that out. Cloud figures it out at the end of 7. That's why he says he'll meet Aerith there one day, when he dies and returns to the planet. All cetras before her gave up their conciousness and merged with the lifestream completly. Aerith was the only one left who could stop him. Think of it like the force in Star wars, everyone who dies rejoins the force, but only a handful can choose to remain concious beings, like Obi-wan, Yoda and Anakin......... And Aerith.
At first I was really rubbed the wrong way by the ending. But after sitting on it for a while, doing a little research and theorising and I actually quite like it. Its not perfect by any means, but its got a lot of potential.
@@Co-Op64Connor Dont expect too much from it and you might enjoy it. Much like the rest of the compilation for FF7, it doesnt brush up to the OG game, but theres some cool moments in it.
Tseng does get stabbed in the OG… or maybe slashed, it’s hard to tell in those graphics. The party finds him near the entrance already injured, and he gives the party the keystone, and Aerith comments on how he was someone she knew from when she was a child and there weren’t many people she could say that about. Then when they go to the weird vision pool in the rolling stone room, you see a playback of the scene in the mural room where Sephiroth stabs Tseng. They heavily imply that Tseng probably won’t make it, and you don’t see him in the rest of the game. I think even Elena alludes to him being gravely injured, and blames the party for it, but it’s never confirmed one way or the other.
One interesting point, just on the note of Cloud’s characterisation being poorer/dull compared to the others. I think it’s definitely to show the level of pain he’s in and how badly he’s coping. He’s dealing with by far the most trauma of any of the characters. If you look at each character’s trial towards the end, and Cloud being excluded, he’s actually suffered all of them: Tifa’s trial - first-hand experience the same events and the breaking down of that relationship Barrett’s trial - the destruction of his home and loved ones Aerith’s trial - watching his mother die right in front of him, unable to help her Red's trial - being imprisoned and experimented on by Hojo for years Yuffie's trial - the death of his beloved mentor and friend who had his back
Actually an interesting point, yeah Cloud HAS been through all of that..... Sonon gave his life so Yuffie could live, just as Zack gave his life so Cloud could live (Zack could have dumped Cloud anywere at any point during their travels, in fact i doubt Cloud would have even blamed him, he was dead weight..... but he didn't.....)
59:41 did you know you could push r2 to move the vacuum just a liiiiiiiiiitle bit faster? 😂😂😂 lol, that kind of felt like a troll I totally get that sentiment. Realistically, the devs did an amazing job in so many areas, but there’s still a couple of quality of life things that i am 100% certain the devs will take into consideration for game 3
Going back to "Cloud, Save her!" - any thoughts on the reason for this? During remakes plate fall, Aerith rescues Marlene in the main timeline. In doing so she shows or gives a vision of the future to Marlene. We know from rebirth that this Aerith knows the future. Does she know that she will lose this knowledge at some point? I mean as far as we can tell, she did nothing else with this knowledge other then give Marlene this vision. Marlene of a branched timeline then tells Zack this, who then comes back to Cloud of the main timeline and tells him "Save her". All of the theories are very compelling but I havent seen any that really account for everything, and lots of them gloss over this. I really hope that it means we are going to get the change of fate that remake and rebirth promised.
The rant about the Nomura backlash at the end struck me as odd. Most complaints about him are from purists who hate the, for lack of a better description, ‘Kingdom Hearts weirdness’ that has been brought into FF7 and blame him for that aspect of the game, because they feel the game should be a 1:1 remake.. I don’t think I heard anyone disrespect him that likes the multiverse changes or doesn’t give him enough credit. Changes that aren’t really his doing, it’s Nojima that writes the story.

People are already complaining Rebirth is too big! The entire thing would have to be redesigned and rebalanced too
Its unrealistic to make it seamless. The best they could do is 3-6 disc release "ultima edition"
I would love that, but I feel the balancing and implementation would be near impossible without some serious limitations. But who knows, maybe they'll surprise us :)
