      I have an actual copy of the first erratum of Darkstorm Dragon. I haven’t been collecting cards in a long time, so it’s my only Gemini Monster. It’s also my only level 8 monster that is treated as a normal monster, so it could at least work with my copy of Thunder End Dragon that a friend gave me. Thing is it needs 2 of those, and therefore is quite cost intensive; going -6 or more in card advantage for a card with a Dark Hole (sans itself) effect that you can only do twice, unless you have a way to add XYZ materials to it.
      That does lead me to ask, though, what is the better effect to have, if you had to choose one: Dark Hole, or Heavy Storm?

    • @IcefireC67
      @IcefireC67 6 років тому +1

      well, if konami would give them better support and a ritual spell that can cycle itself out, shinobirds would actually be a good spirit deck. the only issue with the deck however is the fact it burns itself out after three ritual summons which isn't good. fingers crossed they get a little more support.

    • @WyvernKnightBright
      @WyvernKnightBright 6 років тому +1

      "Obligatory reminder that Shinobirds aren't an archetype"
      Yeah, but seriously though, I'd love if they actually made Shinobirds into a real archetype and gave them more support. They need another ritual spell, another ritual monster would be cute, and maybe main deck support that doesn't feel unnecessary?
      Then again, the whole set of cards feels more like a hybrid between generic Spirit and Mist Valley support. :P

    • @WyvernKnightBright
      @WyvernKnightBright 6 років тому +12

      It's gonna take a lot more than a link monster to make Gemini's viable. They already have a generic fusion that makes all of their effects live, so that idea isn't really necessary. Gemini's also don't really swarm, so it'd be hard to make the most of a Link monster, especially considering their exclusive extra deck options aren't that great either. So I guess it'd be best just to hope that more Chemicritter-esque support cards are released to try and lend a helping hand.
      That being said, I'd rather not have another case of ABC, where Unions were 'revived' by bypassing everything that made Unions unique and just trying to throw down a Dragon Buster and whatever other Extra Deck monsters you could make.

    • @sdsd1801

      Here's the kind of stuff Geminis need:
      Gemini Teleport
      Special Summon 1 level 2 or lower Gemini monster from your Deck; it gains its effects, also it cannot be targeted by an opponent's card effect. If you control 2 or more Gemini Monsters, you can summon a level 8 monster instead.
      *Can get Carbon Crab out of the deck right away, or something like Gemini Soldier... This effect isn't rocket science and konami has pulled it many times (Emergency Teleport, Onslaught of the Fire Kings, Rokket's Quick Launch, etc.)
      See? There are many ways they could help Geminis out... Konami just has to ACTUALLY TRY doing so.

  • @MysticJhn
    @MysticJhn 6 років тому +3

    I do love using Skelesaurus in Duel Links when I play a Zombie deck.
    While it's Gemini effect turns it back into a EARTH Dinosaur-Type (which I love lore wise just because of the concept of a dinosaur skeleton coming back to life), it does steal opponent's monsters which you can then use as Tribute fodder (which is still relevant in Duel Links). Also, it's great with the Field Spell "Wasteland" because it doesn't matter if it's either a Zombie or a Dinosaur, it still keeps the +200 ATK. Again, in the context of Duel Links, a 1900 ATK beater (when using Wasteland) that steals monsters is pretty decent. Plus, since it turns anything it steals into a Zombie, Wasteland powers up whatever you steal and the original Type won't mess up your strategy, like a built in mini-Zombie World.

  • @devonhilt9389
    @devonhilt9389 6 років тому +2

    I think the reason there were all of these weird restrictions was an example of future proofing. Perhaps over compensating, but still a sound concept. For example, I saw in on of your structure deck reviews there was a card that brought one equip spell from the grave, but it could not be used for the rest of that turn. Say it did not have the downside, but then later they added an equip card that only had it's effect if it had been in the graveyard at one point. Then, a card that could pull it from the graveyard and immediately play it could be over powered.
    This isnt meant to be a criticism of your video, i just really enjoy the concept of future proofing and i like your videos! Keep up the awesome work!

  • @Iris_Spring
    @Iris_Spring 6 років тому +1

    i used to run a gemini deck semi competitively during the xyzs era and they can be pretty good if your willing to give them the time
    the big thing is you either have to give them support or use them to give support
    the card DOUBLE SUMMON does work for gemini summoning ( which makes me wonder why they made super double summon) and using monsters like MARAUDING CAPTAIN and GIANT RAT are both super useful in getting them onto the feild (as well as using two marauding captains to temporarily lock the field while you gemini summon).
    BLAZEWING BUTTERFLY, while not the best card can be useful if special summoned first, so you dont waste a normal summon, and can act as a decent monster reborn for your geminis. I also find that GEMINI SUMMONER is a useful card, its not a gemini monster but for the cost of 500 LP you can summon one from your hand or give a monster on the feild their effect. you got 8000LP might as well use them. and finally GEMINI SOLDIER is a card that once a turn isnt destroyed, and lets you special summon geminis form your deck every time its in battle.
    There are also other cards that give geminis their effects or help summon them (like the fusion monster) but the ones i mentioned are the best for it
    a lot of the gemini monsters are pretty bad, but quite a few of them are decently good
    GOGGLE GOLEM is a 4 star monster that gets 2100 ATK with its effect without a negitive (it can be summoned with giant rat)
    ANCIENT GEAR KNIGHT can attack without activating trap cards, and with 1800 ATK its not to shabby
    FUTURE SAMURAI lets you banish a monster in your GY to destroy any monster on the field which can be great especally as a D.D. support
    Skelesaurus is a good way to build up early defence in a game by letting you steal monsters it destroys, and makes for an amazing zombie support card
    DARK VALKYRIA is in my opinion the best low level gemini, gaining 300 ATK for every spell counter on it. (you get 1 when you gemini summon it) and removing a spell counter lets you destroy a monster on the feild, if you have cards producing spell counters, this card becomes a monster on the feild. recomended use with CRUCADER OF ENDYMION
    RED EYES BLACK FLAIR DRAGON is an ok card that does its ATK as damage to your opponent if it was in battle that turn
    PHOENIX GEARFREID and KNIGHT DAY GREPHER make an amazing combo together letting you cycle equip cards in and out of the graveyard to negate spell cards
    DARKSTORM DRAGON is ok, clearing the feild of spell and trap cards, but i find it to be too situational because of geminis need of them
    im not sure about chem critters as i havent used them, but i find that the geminis that are used to support specific architypes that arnt gemini tend to be pretty bad
    GEMINI BOOSTER and GEMINI TRAP HOLE are decent cards for them as the architype gives you enough ways to bring back gemini monsters from the GY
    like i said i used them to and ok success (roughly 80% win rate for my gemini/gardna deck) at local tournaments, but this was befor pendulum summoning, so im not sure how they would fare nowadays.

    There’s only one way to fix Gemini monsters:
    1) Make it so that they’re always treated as Normal and Effect monsters in the hand, deck, and GY
    2) Make it so they can be summoned as normal or effect monsters or make it so that you don’t require an unused normal summon to Gemini summon
    Those are the only things that’ll make today’s meta not only want to play them, but warrant all the stupid restrictions Konami put on them

    Well. I feel this is all pretty accurate. I've even tried making a Gemini deck in the past (Before Catalyst) and it didn't function very well, despite the cards to get them on the field quickly and get the effects going. They are very slow, and kinda clunky, and as stated, you can't even use rescue rabbit, or any effects that would nab a normal out of the deck because they aren't considered normal there. If they were, they'd be marginally better, but even then still too slow to be competitive for the most part. Though if you're just building it for a fun duel, with a taste of challenge to get the win in most cases, then yes Gemini can be fun sometimes.

    Konami Exec:We have these cards and we need to limit their ability for no reason.
    Card Designer: "I've Got It!To get the effect off you have to leave a vanilla monster on the field for one turn before to get the effect".
    Konami Exec: "Do you get to summon another monster that turn as well?"
    Card Designer: "Sir, with all due respect, THAT WOULD BE INSANE! No, You have to literally waste your normal summon on it twice."
    Konami Exec: "Makes total sense. How about the effects? Are they worth the double summon"
    Card Designer: "Not even a little. They range from gutter trash to irrelevant"
    Konami Exec: "My God...You're Brilliant! What should we call these summons?"
    Card Designer: "Well I was born at the end of May...how bout Gemini?"
    Konami Exec: "You sir are getting a huge raise!"
    Card Designer: "Thank You Sir! I also have this great Idea for leveling up monster"
    Konami Exec: "Save all the great ideas for later son. Right now, it is time for the company-wide daily cocaine sampling"
    I assume that's how it went anyway.

    My take on how to make Geminis good: Geminis that inherently special summon, or cards which special summon Geminis specifically; Geminis that are extra deck monsters that are absurdly good; tuner Geminis; link Geminis with absurd effects (think Firewall Dragon's effects); ritual Geminis; and a field spell that makes Geminis get treated as Normals in the hand and deck as well as the field and graveyard, to proc all the crazy normal support.

    Crusader of Endymion is a pretty useful Genini monster, when played in the correct deck. I’ve got a dedicated Endymion deck (my Pendulum Magicians) which benefits greatly from it. I just use a Pendulum summon for it, then Normal summon to get a bonus Spell Counter every turn. It’s level 4, 1900 base attack, and hits 2500 attack if you use it’s ability to place a counter somewhere. Pair that with a Defender, who can use counters from ANYWHERE to save any spell caster, along with your two Endymion Pendulums and the Endymion field spell, you’re set for life. Helps my own deck has a crazy number of spells to increase counters as well, a couple Soell caster equip cards for extra defense and/or power, and a good few of the cards let me search the deck for more spells or Pendulum monsters. And can’t forget Magical Blast, which I can place back in hand instead of draw as long as it’s in the graveyard. That combo usually shuts down most other decks sonce they can’t penetrate my defenses without the help of cards like Zombie World

    Ah! Neos Alius, haven't seen you in a while. Anyways, nice video, but as I played a lot of Geminis, I just want to point out the fact that, Geminis have one of the benefits of normal monsters, and that is, graveyard revival cards. Silent Doom and Swing of Memories really help these decks. Often have I topdecked into a Silent Doom or a Swing of Memories a few years ago to summon a dead Gigaplant in the graveyard, Gemini summon it to use its effect and summon a tuner and go for Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend and nuke their board.
    But I must admit that, sadly, Konami patched Unions way better than they did for Geminis by giving them what is essentially a boss monster with the an Overload Fusion way of summoning it, although you don't need any cards in your hand, and effects that were not usually there on unions before in the form of their graveyard effect.
    Final note: Hopefully Crystron Needlefiber comes out in the TCG soon, because Gigavise can do crazy stuff thanks to it. Last time, I ended my turn one with a Crystal Wing, a Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss and a potential summon of Life Stream Dragon as a last line of defense (since it can protect itself from destruction by banishing equip spells)

    Honestly Konami could make geminis with effects from the F/L list and they wouldn't be an issue. reasoning:
    1) as stated, they are normal monsters... there are currently only ~2.5 decks (Spiral turbo, metalfoes, and that weird ftk with igknights) that are playable with large amounts of normal monster.
    2) the support cards are unsearchable, except for terraforming
    3)the summon is easy to respond to (solemn judgement/warning, 'hole' normal trap cards, any BoM or Compulse like effect)
    4) it eats your normal summon >.>
    unless they address all these issues, I doubt that geminis will every be tier 1 heck even tier 2.
    Thank you for the video, love your content, keep up the good work.

    You can easily fix the problem of gemini monsters which you talked about having too many "normal" monsters in your deck that requires extra support to work:
    Pendulum gemini monsters. Give them pendulum effects that allow you to treat targeted/all gemini monsters to gain effects.
    On top of that, you can given them an easy to summon link monster that further gives you quick access to Raptinus.

That involves having beast type 'Wolf' monsters that are gemini along with warriors/ maybe spellcasters to help bring them out or bring out their powerful effects. That it is also a ritual/fusion/ maybe synchro deck that its strategy is to get as many of your gemini wolf monsters on the field or graveyard as much as possible. I click away every time someone uses Red-Eyes Fusion to fuse Red-Eyes Black Flare Dragon and Red-Eyes Archfiend of Lighting directly from the deck. But a good strategy I found is Red-Eyes Black Flare Dragon equipped with Dragon Shield. Dragon Shield prevents it from being destroyed and neither player takes any battle damage from battles involving the equipped card. However if you activate the gemini effect of the dragon you can inflict 2400 effect damage to your opponent each time that card battles. Combine that with Archfiend Black Skull Dragon and perhaps Red-Eyes Black Flare Metal Dragon and your opponent will have a hard time.

    maybe if Konami brings support... and here's my Idea..
    field spell: Everytime a monster is normal summon put 3 gemeni counter on this card. once per turn. u can remove 3 counter from this card and if you do so, you can activate one of this effects:
    1) normal summon 2 times this turn.
    2) add one spell or trap card from your deck to your hand.
    (not so broken) (not so bad)
    continuous spell card. when this card is activated from your hand you can special summon a gemmini level 4 monster from your deck. each time a gemmini monster is normal summoned(for the second time) remove 3 gemmini counter from anywhere on the field. add them to that monster. as long as that monster has 3 counters or more it cannot be targeted by card effects. if this card is sent to graveyard from the field you can remove 3 counters from anywhere on field and add it to your hand.

    I think it would be really cool if there would be cards that would have a different effect on a gemini monster depending on if it was gemini summoned or not. That way not gemini summoning one of your monsters can sometimes be beneficial over gemini summoning it.
    The way I see it the cards should propably have stronger, but more focussed effects on gemini summoned monsters, while having more flexible, supportive effects on normal summoned ones.
    This doesn't have to make gemini's a valid archetype on their own, but maybe they can become good support monsters.

  • @DexterityYTC

    After seeing that top comment I'm still gonna say it lol: Gemini's are decent in Duel Links, but there's reasons for it. I think it's mainly due to the fact that the game has a overall slower format, as well as the fact that the decks are only 20 (and no don't make your deck 30 cards you'll lose) cards so they aren't gimped as hard by their lack of reliable search effects.
    Also I think Gemini's could exist in rogue tier with the correct support. Personally I think the best or maybe just easiest way to do this is to create an archetype of geminis and then make searchers for those cards, or make more reliable searchers for geminis overall.
    Things like supervise and featherizer and other existing Gemini support kind of have this theme of putting geminis in the graveyard so maybe an interesting idea could be to take a page out of the Dark World Grimoire and create a ton of tricky graveyard effects and keep field effects on just the boss monsters? Idk I'm not completely familiar with all the geminis so if I'm missing something here let me know.

I do hope they make some kind of Gemini archetype with a field that's better than Catalyst that'll take make use of the fact they're both effect and normal monsters. I don't even care if they were not competitive if they were fun to play. Something they can try are continuous spell and trap cards that gives them their effects while they're in zones close to the monsters. Very similar to how Weathery spells and traps work, but they can give them effects that give thwir users an advantage when they leave the field by an opponent's card effect. They can be part of a gemini arquetype or simply more gemini support.

    Geminis were essentially powercrept before they came out. Let's imagine if most level 4 normal monsters had 1500-1900 atk, but level 4 effect monsters had significantly less (like 1000-1500). Then, Geminis would seem like a good idea by giving you the best of both worlds. A beefy normal monster that turns into a beefy effect monster. Unfortunately, we already had huge level 4 effect monsters and huge level 4 normal monsters. Normal monsters essentially have no value at that point, and Gemini monsters ended up being the worst parts of normal monsters with some value from being an effect monster at a significant cost and delay.

    I think the only way Gemini monsters could be really good is if they were reinforced by the mechanics of special summon.... For instance, If you were to build a Gemini deck using Pendulum monsters.....It could work. Because since the pendulum summoning is classified as special something as long as the monsters level is within the pendulum scale.... it will allow the player the option of performing a normal summoning. The only downside is that you can only do one of the monsters that you pendulum summoned. But yeah a better cards were produced I’m sure pendulum monsters to see a come back. I was a big fan of lvl,monsters for quite some time. My favorite deck was the armored dragon deck.
    I feel like Konami is finally learning how things work so I’m pretty sure if they wanted to they could revive a lot of dead classes.
    On the sidenote.... Sometime before Gemini monsters were introduced. Are used to really enjoy creating my own Yu-Gi-Oh cards. And I was working on the idea of a series of monsters that were based on two different type....In Gemini was one of the names I was thinking of calling them since they were two monsters in one. The concert was based on the fact that the monster to be treated as two monsters instead of one allowing the player to use existing cards.. Like a monster that a Warrior-Type...but also a Dragon-Type. Of course there will be new card but the player could still use cards that were only good for warrior-types and also use cards that are only go for dragon-types. Needless to say I like the idea but I don’t think other people would agree....So I shelved it.

Oh and BTW don't harsh on the ability to change a monster to def even when attacking as this is still VERY relevant even today as the defense of some popular mons isn't nearly as good as their attack.

    Honestly, my opinion of why gemini's failed is why card archtypes like the Harpy Ladies failed; they altered it so that their effects did or didn't extend to the creation of the deck itself. In the case of gemini's, they lost a ton of support because their main sctick, being a normal monster, didn't extend to the deck. In the case of Harpy Ladies, their main sctick (being a harpy lady) extended to the deck and thus prevented you from having more than 3 of any of their cards in the deck at any given time.

    Actually, I have a fairly powerful deck that combines Red Eyes with Odd Eyes, and it's got some good Red Eyes Gemini Monsters in it. Though I believe some Gemini Monsters are a bit strange in strategic worth, I think that every card has a good and bad way to activate. I use my Odd Eyes Monsters to Pendulum Summon my Gemini Red Eyes, and then normal summon them for their effects. The only thing I haven't worked out is the effect negations, as I just use war of attrition tactics to win.

    recent Red-Eyes cards had success, and Darkstorm Dragon was used in Blue-Eyes and Galaxy-Eyes decks back in the day as a dark monster and a lv 8

    Okay, super casual Gemini user here. Just like to mention the lack of Warrior Strike cards. I know you gave a slight comment on the Warrior Strike structure Deck for your Structure Deck Review video but really the amount of cards shown from it in this one, (which whilst aren't competitive I ain't dumb enough to suggest that) are a hell of a lot better than most of the old Gemini cards. Since, really most of the ones you've shown were pack fillers that weren't supposed to see any play. However, I guess it does make sense, nobody would support this heaping pile of low grade cardboard.
    But...this guy is! Anyway, they still do have plenty of problems it's clear since at the get go they're strictly weaker than regular effect monsters and aren't inherently fast. But that's the thing, as strange as it is to say for Yu-Gi-Oh of all TCG's. They should be a slow deck and have that aspect supported, by introducing more stun effects for effect monsters as so you can either dodge your own traps by keeping them normal OR by using your effect but knowing the consequence with it almost benefiting you in some cases as they have a knack for being easily revived...
    Either way I've said enough...I know these little guy's are bad and you've made plenty of video's about people like me who support a terrible archetype then complain when your review them. But in all honesty, I needed to speak up this ONE time...
    Hopefully, this does reach you my Spheal loving friend. Oh...and compering Blazewing Butterfly to monster reborn...that's just mean...

    I used to play Geminis after their Structure came out, and it was ok for casual fun play. I think Geminis can become a fun alternative if they release more cards like Catalyst Field and Supervise, and an arquetype that can really make the mechanic good. Red-Eyes and Chemicritters were a good try, but I success in an arquetype similar to what they did with Noble Knights.

    I think this video outlines my overall problems with the meta of this game and how Konami has over the years favored more absolute domination strategies creating a power creep that i doubt they them selves could stop at this point without changing the games core mechanics.

    Geminis should have an errata where it gives them their effect either during the next standby phase or your next standby phase so you don't waste your normal summon. I still don't think it'll make them competitively viable but at least they'd be more fun/consistent
