I assume it's actually cheaper to have two chairs than two bends in the track. We are looking for a chair lift for my mother as I typed and a lift with two bends was quoted at nearly twice that of a straight lift.
Correct; where I work, a curved stairlift we recently installed was a very simple layout, yet cost almost 3 times a straight one, where two straights would probably have sufficed.
Best to turn the power off instead of unplugging. This way the batteries will not be drained. The Handicare 1100 has a power switch on the motor carriage under a plexiglass cover.

If I want to unplug the stairlift how do I turn off the alarm?
I unplugged it and the alarm did stop actually..
