    Nice video.
    1. I love this song :)
    2. Ozone is a great tool but I shamelessly just use Master Assistant . :D If it's doing a tone of work then I compare the results and go back to mix. Helps me to learn how to balance my mix better.
    3. Do you use Tonal Balance plugin in Ozone? (or straight in DAW) I found it helpful to have it loaded to quickly check where I am with my mix. Created a handful of custom profiles with my favourite stuff and use them as my quick reference.

    Which special version / bundle did you use on this? I'm a newbie ;), just want to make sure the version I get is the right one and has all the elements you used in your video, obviously on version 11 by now. Great video, thank you!

    Hi Mendel, how do you master a complete album so that different songs are more or less of equal loudness?
    How do you take care of the LUFS?
    Thank you!

    • @Mendelian
      @Mendelian 3 роки тому +3

      A start mixing a song, and once the band is fully happy that’ll be the main sound for the album. So i’ll use that as a template for the rest of the albums and adjust where needed to make it fit each song (different tunings etc). Then in master i’’ll double check volumes.

    Great sound Mendel!! Question: Do you master in the same project as the mix or it was just for this video (demonstration let say)?

    • @Mendelian
      @Mendelian 3 роки тому +5

      Sometimes i do, but most of the time i export it to a single WAV, import in a clean project. Wait a few days so i have a fresh approach for mastering.

    I think you said before in another video that you try to hit around -9 LUFS on your master. Is that still true? How do you keep your Maximizer the same and then get it up or down to -9 LUFS? Just by adjusting the output level in Ozone? ALSO, do you ever use the Exciter?

    • @Mendelian
      @Mendelian 3 роки тому

      I aim for -6 LuFS most of the time!

      Doesn't Spotify require - 14 lufs?
      Isn't it trimming your audio when you cross it?

    • @xryanxrulezx
      @xryanxrulezx 3 роки тому +2

      @@rotek824 it isn't necessarily required, but they're "turn it down" if it's above that, yeah. the thing is is that there's debate about whether or not it really matters. I don't think I'm capable of outlining all the different arguments against or in support of the guidelines. I've seen people throw caution to the wind and master even up to -6 LUFS and say it sounds fine, and I've seen people say to master no less than -2 under -14 LUFS. Some people say eff it and just master to what they think sounds good and just decide to let the streaming platforms sort it out. Not sure which camp I fall in, but I hope I've provided something to chew on for you.

    I’ve always heard different opinions on gain staging, I notice when you get to your limiter both your input and output are clipping, I realize it’s still sounding great but is that a concern at all?

    Hey Mendel great video. Does LUFs in mastering play a role depending on where you want your music to be played? E.g. would you master that lound if you'd like your music to play on spotify or youtube etc?

    • @MichaelKhaimraj
      @MichaelKhaimraj Рік тому +1

      From what I know, if you exceed the LUFS for a platform your track will just be lowered to the LUFS limit for the platform. Spotify's default is -14 LUFS for example, so if your Master is hitting -10 LUFS, Spotify automatically lowers it, but if you Mastered at -18 LUFS, Spotify won't necessarily bring it up to -14. (I think Spotify has a range, but this is the basic idea).
      Do your best to master as close to the LUFS value for your platform of choice as you can. That way you'll be certain the sound you hear in your final audio file will be what everyone streaming your song is hearing!

    • @dedalomusic
      @dedalomusic 9 місяців тому

      Streaming platforms are a joke. Just turn normalisation off and you will notice that most music nowadays hits around -7LUFS, so don't even bother lowering it to -14 or something like that. And yes, platforms will turn music down to their intended lufs target, but no one cares. As I said, have a trip around your favourite spotify playlists with normalisation off, stream your audio directly into Youlean and you will see.
