    Friday 29th October 2021
First day of the 2021 'Welsh Narrow Gauge Heaven!' charters run by David Williams and Bob Branch, featuring Baldwin "Santa Teresa No.1" on the railway's replica USA rolling stock including a caboose.
    Baldwin Locomotive Works Philadelphia
No.1 was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia, USA in 1897 (No 15511) as a 2-6-0 tender locomotive for the Mogyana Railway in Brazil, before being sold onto the Santa Teresa Sugar Mill, where it was converted to 2' 6" gauge.
Withdrawn by 1976, the locomotive was brought to the UK in 1990. An extensive restoration took place at the Brecon Mountain Railway, including reguauging to 1' 11.75" and being converted from a 2-6-0 to a 2-6-2. The steam loco entered service at the Brecon Mountain Railway in June 2019.
The Rheilffordd Mynydd Brycheiniog / Brecon Mountain Railway is located on the south side of the Brecon Beacons National Park, near Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. The line runs from Pant, to Pontsticill, alongside the Pontsticill (Taf Fechan) and Pentwyn Reservoirs to Torpantau .

I'm from Maine and this looks right out of a picture from back when Maine had lots of 2ft tender engines!

A fabulous record of the days activities given the weather conditions we were having to work around, it was an enjoyable day. Look forward to welcoming you back again for some more American Narrow Gauge Steam in Wales.

Wonderful to see American steam in the U.K.; the number 1 looks beautiful and well done on the resto and conversion. The two-foot gauge was very prevalent in the state of Maine ...and there are some fine restored examples running today. Now, what Santa Teresa really needs is a right proper whistle ...I'm afraid that "tea kettle" tooter just doesn't do her justice. And you need an engineer (what I guess you folks call a "driver") to actually *blow* that whistle. Let it resonate and echo throughout the hills and dales and moors so the rest of the neighbors know she's out and about! And while you can get away with the steamy show when the weather allows ...you really need to make some *smoke*! Stack talk and smoke! I'm sure the no. 1 runs on oil so getting her to billow a bit of smoke shouldn't be that hard. You want vintage American steam on display you need a whistle, good stack talk and some smoke to make it complete.

Excellent video of the amazing USA narrow gauge freight plus mixed train working at Brecon 👍👍
It feels magical that fact you are in South Wales, it does fill that you were at a heritage railway in the USA. The freight wagons or cars are so well designed by the railway volunteers and I hope they do cattle wagons to add to it.
I would like to see the two USA locos double heading together on a service train operations during a weekend as that would be site to be amazed.

And a few stake sided lumber flats too. Then it could pass for Maine, though you may want a Forney to really top it off.

actually she's from brazil, she was a 2-6-0 for companhia mogiana, then she was sold for a plant and then she was sent to the uk, where she was converted to a 2-6-2 and put back to life, but still, seh is amazing!!!!

Locomotive and landscape. Certainly worth all the hiking and climbing. I'd be interested to see what you could do at Rudyard Lake Steam Railway.
    Very nicely done.

Absolutely fabulous . Great shots lovely sound and the steam effects were just so classical they mad you drool.. The last silhouette and steam drifting into the valley magnificent. I travels on the line in early October and was cheered by the quality of the operation stock and it all. Great all round work Amacf

It's great to see so many foreign engines in the UK where people who can't exactly afford to go across the pond can get a chance to see what they have over there from home (or Ireland in my case). Hopefully we can get the C&L 4-4-0T back to Ireland with another American engine alongside for good measure! 😂😂

This locomotive was originally built for operation in South Africa, this particular one served the Eastern Province Cement Company situated at the end of a branch that leaves the Port Elisabeth - Avontuur railway at Chelsea.
The design was based on similar locomotives built for South African Railways as class NG10, but this one has a more American look despite all the NG10 also been built by Baldwin.
The locomotive was extensively rebuilt by the Brecon Mountain Railway (should be Railroad with its American theme) as it came as a crash victim from SA.
With these cars behind it gives a good idea what the 2ft gauge railroads in Maine looked like.

Think that is Brecon's other America loco, Baldwin 61269 of 1930. This one was built for work in Brazil.

What a boring film, just a steam train with five wagons in one clip then six in another, all empty, just wasting my time watching it.
