Early Wednesday, news media reported that former President Donald Trump had secured at least 277 Electoral College votes, enough to win the U.S. presidency. Trump becomes only the second president to serve a second term that did not follow his first. Republican Party lawmakers took control of the Senate while control of the House of Representatives remained unclear by mid Wednesday.     (3:42) Then, Mario reports on the outbreak of a viral disease in Central Africa. Health officials say there are signs that the mpox outbreak of in the Democratic Republic of the Congo might be easing. But they say more vaccines and vaccination efforts are needed. Cases reportedly have decreased from nearly 400 cases a week to 200 to 300 cases a week. The virus was first identified in a mining town among miners and sex workers. learningenglis...
    (10:34) Next, Bryan Lynn reports on a new measure to help people who cannot hear. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of Apple AirPods as hearing aids. An Apple software release this week launched the system on the devices. It aims to increase specific sounds in real-time. Another goal of its software seeks to get more people to try hearing aids. Health officials have pushed for increased uses of hearing aids for many years. Bryan describes what the new Airpods can do for users. learningenglis...

    (20:06) Finally, Jill and Andrew Smith present the Lesson of the Day. The two use the VOA Learning English program Let’s Learn English to teach grammar and English language usage. Today they look at the present perfect continuous tense in Lesson 50 of Let’s Learn English. The tense is often used in conversations. Jill and Andrew talk about ways that the present perfect continuous is used in questions meant to find out about what people do over periods of time.
