This an American Orthodox chant sung in the bluegrass style of the beautiful Appalachian mountains and forests. The last painting in the video and the one in the thumbnail is of St Herman of Alaska, he was a Russian Orthodox Missionary who came to Alaska for missionary work.

beautiful. good video brother
Thanks for your kind words man, but do tell me if I have mistranslated anything, I like making Christian chants but I do have a tendency to mistranslate some of them 😅
Thanks though.
@@trytotruth Nah you did great, surprised you are not a native English speaker. Honestly, foreigners are a lot better at speaking English than many natives from America.
@@justinprice7484 I mean over here, English actually isn't supposed to be our native language but it has somehow unofficially become it. To be more accurate, our native language should be Mandarin or Malay but yeah, thanks for the compliment man!
This was performed by two seminary students as a joke. It's the only song like this in existence that I know of, there are a couple different videos of it on UA-cam, the original and with echos added to make it sound like it is in a church. And there is a variant performance of it recorded by an Orthodox church in West Virginia, as part of a Christmas concert they recently did. I hope this becomes a whole new genre, it's so fantastic.
Doesnt sound like a joke to me...
Look up the Christ is Risen hymn in Appalachian style!
I don't think this was a joke. There are quite a few people in the American Church (OCA) that have been working slowly on developing uniquely American chant tones, and I imagine this was one of those efforts.
either way, this is a beautiful chant ☦
Just a small correction, the church that did the Christmas concert is in South Carolina. It’s my parish actually, and probably one of the best examples of what am American Orthodox Church could be
That first church I believe is in Homer Alaska. I spent a lot of time in those mountains as a child.
oh I didn't know, that's pretty cool man.
And the second is St Michael's in New Archangel Alaska.
I love this. I wish there was an album.
Thank you for this amazing song. Greetings from Belgium 🇧🇪

if you close your eyes you feel like you're actually there
Stalin, please repent
@@FirstnameLastname-qe3ry i forgive you for insulting my opinions and i hope you repent and become less insulting, and live a great life through God and that you get into the kingdom of heaven when you die, God bless you
@@stalin5267 How can you be stalinist and christian at the same time tho?
@@khristosanesti8029 how is it not possible? What’s so wrong about Stalinism that’s worse than capitalism that’s litterally built on materialism
@@khristosanesti8029 as much as I hate getting into internet arguments, that is true, his profile picture might spark some controversy..
Beautiful

There are Orthodox monasteries in West Virginia as well. Good job combining local to Orthodox chant. Its not a joke per se.
Should really be on Spotify

Oh, apologies for that, I am actually not from America and for this video I tried my best to find many Orthodox churches in America in general for the video.
MORE! MORE!
This is actually used liturgically at Saint John of the Ladder in SC.
Here it is in a concert of theirs. Inspired by the seminarians, the melody is authentic. All glory to God as we develop ourselves for His Holy Name!

Yes, the One (One Body) Holy (Established by God) Catholic (The universal faith for everyone) and Apostolic (From the Apostles) Church (The Body of Christ) and if I am not mistaken in the Bible it is said to be THE pillar and foundation of truth. ☦😎
Beautiful chant. What's the name of the picture/painter on 2:28?
Not sure, most of the awesome art I find is from Pinterest. I got it from here: www.pinterest.com/pin/678354762636222267/
It says the painter is Mikhail Shankov 🙂
@@trytotruthThank you, God bless you and your family!
@@eucharistenjoyer thanks man you too!

Awesome song 🙏 blessings from an Appalachian Catholic
thanks man
Who here recognizes the primacy of the Roman Pontiff?
Primacy as in first among equals, not supremacy. I am Eastern Orthodox. I would recommend videos by Ubi Petrus if you are interested in comparing Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Ecclesiology. 🙂
Very primitive! Christ is Risen !
Beautiful
