  • Let's take a hike into Goethe State Forest, explore nature and go off the beaten path as I re-plant an old geocache. Along the way I come across some turpentine history just some of the interesting activities from here in the past. Geocaching is a way to help get you into nature and places that you may not have ventured to before. You can leave a note, or anything you may like for the next traveler to find. This geocache I originally planted here back in 2013 or so and people have checked into it ever since from time to time. Upon this visit I put a new container in the spot and log sheet. If you look around the area close enough in the woods you can see remnants from the old turpentine era here during the 1800's and early 1900's. There are many places to explore throughout this forest located in Levy County, Florida. The geocache is named after J.T. Goethe who once owned all this land and eventually donated it to the state to be preserved for future generations. I enjoy coming out here and taking in the nature, learning about and discovering the history. It's always fascinating and makes you appreciate these places so much. I hope you that you enjoy the adventure and thank you!

Enjoyed this . Thanks for taking us along. Thoughts of how hot it was during the years of turpentine harvesting from the trees. The multiple uses turpentine has and has been used for, like a lubricant for fire arms , paint solvent and much more. That was neat seeing you change out the geocaching box. I’ve always wanted to do that and leave a little compass 🧭 Happy travels FTB
    Thanks for staying dedicated.
