By the way, the correct pronunciation of Osse is "Ozzie" because its a D&D version of Australia. Of course, nobody who lives there calls it that, so who cares?
@@AJPickett
Bahahahahahahaha
Nice Mate 🧉
is this your first ecology from Osse? it's so much fun ... i think i'm gonna have to introduce giant miniature space hamsters to my group, then follow that up with the Burrungurru just to shatter expectations at the table.,
Osse? Ossa? Ozzie? Oi (oi oi).
@@AJPickett What is the canon about the inhabitants of Osse? I remember it being pretty vague in 3 & 3.5, not sure about 5e. I would go with a fantasy version of aborigeneal people with maybe some isolated enclaves of colonists from Kara-Tur, but that seems far too easy and unoriginal, although very " forgotten realm-like".
@@Eisenwulf666 Theres barely any info on the continent, peoples, or the beasts that roam there. Theres a book that has one aboriginal traveler but he doesnt explain what its like there.
I feel like a druid in Osse would be really strong with all the beast options they can transform into.
Extremely strong!
Wow I didn't know that the Forgotten Realms had it's own Land Down Under
I'm thrilled to see more of what fantasy Australia has to offer
Sometimes I forget Toril has all these cool continents based on Earth continents that would make great adventuring locations. I blame 5e sticking around the milk toast sword coast area for making me forget
I cover the Multiverse, both foreign and domestic.
@@AJPickett and I thank you for it
I blame 4e. They replace Maztica with a brand new landmass during the time skip and refused to do anything with it other than explain that that’s where the Dragonborn come from. Then when they change things back they still did nothing.
It used to be when ever we got a big shake up we’d at least get some kind of book or small adventure out of it.
A cross between a giant wombat and a beaver with the attitude of a saltwater crocodile.
Strewth.
So Dire bear + beaver + badger + Tasmanian devil + spirit. Yeah that wouldn’t be out of place in Australia…..also probably Florida too.
I have to appreciate this synthesis of a North American beaver and an Australian cryptid.
Well done! The ecology is dead-on.
:playing Winona's Big Brown Beaver by Primus in the background:
Speaking of 'keystone' species, check out the impact of the re-introduction of wolves into US national parks, They're culling of oversized herds of deer back to more sustainable levels have had dramatic positive impacts on the land by reducing the deers' over grazing, with lots of positive follow on effects from that.
Yes, they didn't know that wolves dragging carcasses back to eat under the trees was acting like a vital fertiliser over time, contributing to the spread of new stands of forest, particularly near waterways.
"It's so fluffy; I'm going to die!" -Agnes, Despicable Me
"It's so fluffy! I'm going to die!" -PC when they run into a burrungurru
The pics of the mother and her kits on the riverbank I just labelled "Cute1" and "Cute2"
Make it surrounded by water with lots of crocs and sharks.
Make sure it has lots of poisonous creatures.
Make sure the peoples don't want outsiders to arrive. Unless they have the correct skillbase
They deport all their criminals to a nearby peaceful island nation that continually beats their best sports teams.
Owlbear: Could this be one of my people?
I was thinking the entire time "This is the Ozzie Owl Bear"
Not every creature needs to be magical.
I wanna hear more about Osse.
I'd like to see stats on this... and learn much more about Osse.
Osse osse osse, oy oy oy.
Ossie is one of many places I would like to see developed. But also one of the undeveloped regions which I have used as a home brew corner of the Forgotten Realms. I placed the good aligned drow in Ossie because they aren't welcome in Evermeet. This would be the perfect place to put the Udadrow, Aevendrow, and Lorendrow homelands, with just small communities in the other parts of the Realms.
I also populated this place with a variety of beastmen that don't exist elsewhere.
Dark Elves from the land down under.
This has that old school quality we love. So did the last one. Keep it up man.
A weird animal from real world history that would fit D&D is the giant aquatic sloth.
Wait, Forgotten Realms Australia!
New campaign idea, heroes must protect the folkhero, and ranger, Stev Ironwind from a race of stingray like people. As he protects the local wildlife from their encroachment.
There are evil sting rays in dnd so don't even need to homebrew that.
@@zacharyweaver276 this needs to be a thing
In Canada we just call them 'Beavers'.
Terrific lore! I see that some of the art shows the teeth of a giant river otter, like in the Amazon, as opposed to something that could carve up wood. I imagine some sort of combination: the huge incisors of a beaver along with pointy fangs on the bottom, maybe? Or maybe the huge incisors are enough?
Yeah, the teeth are Marsupial, which have a distinctly rodent-like configuration, but not quite. The Marsupial Lion was a creature that could bite the top of a man's head clean off.
@@AJPickett amazing!
Finally a trip through somebodies Osse. I love this creature, and it’s rainforest / jungle home.
I wouldn't mind encountering one of these Burrungurru outside somewhere. But if AJ was saying or at least implying they always attack humans than I'll just have to admire them from UA-cam videos and monster guides. Happy September to anyone in the midst of September now. Fall is right around the corner.
Another great creation. You have a fertile mind and imagination. Thanks for sharing it.
It's a Dire Muskrat. I love it.
Never knew about Osse! Thank you!
Luckily i brought my Goon Bag of Holding
Another banger from almost down under
any relation to "Boo"? 🤔
Very Enjoyable Presentation
Mr A J Sir!!! 👍👏👏👏😁
One can never tell with those space hampsters...
11:52 Few means there are things that can match them; what would those be?
Bullette, Purple Worm, some Owl Bears, a few Raptors (Axe beaks are common in Osse), Rocs, etc
This is just awesome inspiration, thanks again for sharing your wisdom good Sage.
Was waiting for this video! I was thinking about doing a campaign in Osse for the longest time, this is great ! EDIT: Just thought of an adventure hook. If the adventurers are outsiders, some less than scrupolous merchants could hire them to hunt a Burrungurru, because no local would do it. Aside from the hunt itself that could be dangerous (depending on their level) or even almost lethal, they are faced with a choice: hunt it down and incur in the wrath of the locals(maybe even some druid or ranger making it their mission to avenge the creature) or spare it and befriend the locals, giving them a base of operations and possible quest givers. Depending on how much i want to go the "spirits of the land" route, they could even get some mystical repercussions for harming it. Who is the unscrupolous merchant? Maybe someone that wants to anger/weaken the spirits for their own goals? This writes itself!
You can also have a werekangaroo npc who shows up during a full moon and beats the crap out of challengers
@@zacharyweaver276 one word: werewombat.
@@Eisenwulf666 Yes of course can't have just one
This is the most fun homebrew monter ecology I've seen since the false hydra. I'd love to learn more about monters from Osse and Achorome.
*Big* Faerun naturalist energy. In the best way.
Peak OC lore
I've got a similar place in my setting that'll I'll run this thing in if my players go that far south
AJ: "let's make the fauna of the most dangerous continent even MORE exciting"
.... mission accomplished sir
Burrungurru ,better know as Henry Cavill.
PANR has tuned in.
Good day AJ! Hope your doing well!
dire beaver
We could always use more fantasy marsupials!
I wanna see more animals from fantasy Australia/Tasmania/New Zealand. They already have the craziest animals in real life. Adding fantasy to it would endlessly entertaining 😂❤
This month is Osse month!
Isn't the gympi gympi tree from Australia? Make it a plant creature, I say.
@@derekstein6193 YES! A gympi gympi ENT would be amazing😆
I love this so much 😮❤

This is a lot like animals of old paleolithic Australia. Originally i thought of giant wombats. Nature abhors a vacuum. It's all about the niches.
Exactly, Australia when the Aboriginal people showed up was a VERY scary place. There is damn good reason they resorted to setting forests on fire.
Giant wombats, you say?
Just imagine the size of its piles of cubes.
Cool animal, but I wish the artists had gone with a more marsupial look rather than just fang-beaver
They did at 5:34
This is great, is this homebrew lore or legit? Either way it's neat I just can't find it online, but somethings from 2e and 3.5e aren't online.
Says Homebrew right on the Thumbnail image my friend,
Did you just call homebrew illegitimate?
@@almitrahopkins1873 Well, nothing has been written officially for Osse so... nothing can be canon (yet)
@@AJPickett Do you have a notebook with this written in it? That makes it apocryphal, not illegitimate. This is canon to your sect (group). Homebrew is always legitimate. It may not be WotC canon, but that doesn’t make it illegitimate.
It’s like the Ghillie Dhu, Coblynau, Metsan Vaki, wodewise and many others that flavor the goblins in my games. They were made semi-canonical by the addition of the Dhakaani goblins in Eberron, but they are still homebrew. They were influenced mostly by the little people of the forest of the Tsalagi (Cherokee) people, who would better fit the description of the sylvan elves, but three feet tall.
Osse is your creation. It connects the Forgotten Realms to your neck of the woods. Without an officially-licensed WotC product on it, it is the only canon there is. Suggesting that it is illegitimate was insulting to me, simply because I want to see more of it. Maybe I wasn’t clear enough on that in my initial comment.
Just to the northwest of Maztica, I inserted the continent called Turtle Island by the natives. Is my North American continent also illegitimate? You can reach it from the Moonshae Isles by sailing northwest for two weeks, but Maztica is only half a day’s sailing time from the southern end.
Great video AJ
Thanks Chris
In Soviet Osse, beaver eats you. 😄
Amazing
I thought I commented this earlier. Is this WoTC/TSR official or is this homebrew? Either way it's great and Osse is deeply lacking on online resources. I know a lot of things that happened in the books especially 2e don't show up online. I hope you do more of this whichever it is. I'm think of a campaign concept free of the modern decedent luxuries that iron and bronze afford us lol.
You did and I replied that the thumbnail for the video has a tag that says it is homebrew. There is no official content for Osse.
Bleu Osse
I wonder what species of dragon live in Osse?
All of them, Drakes are fairly common, including some flightless varieties.
Does it climb up and drop from trees?
No, that would be the Drop Bear, which is coming soon.
Can it beat the owlbear?
Yes.
@@AJPickett Damn.🤯
Hi
Do they have conical teeth or rodent teeth?
And if it's conical, then how do they cut down trees?
They have Marsupial teeth.
@@AJPickett Oh okay
They just bite and crush the trees into woody pulp.

That's an awful lot of talking, when you could have just said Canadian Dire Beaver and left it at that.
Close enough i'd say😂
Where is this Canadia you speak of? Is that near the Goblin Marches?

Clearly AI generated text. I don’t like it. It’s repetitive and lacks the flare and uniqueness your old videos had. AI gives you the quality of a common denominator of everything it had found and processed on the internet. Don’t reduce your channel to a common denominator.
Fair critique and you have hit the nail on the head there, I seek to continually improve with whatever means are available, clearly this one needs some work. Thank you,
It has a quality like it’s read from a textbook, which is also kinda cool
