What I like about voice typing is that it makes my writing style more conversational than when I sit down to write at a keyboard. I love your channel! Thanks for so many nuggets of practical information.
Thanks for sharing!
Oh, didn't think about that. I'll have to recommend that to my freelancers, as they have that tendency towards formality.
For ideas and rough drafts it's really great for mobile writing. There have been many times when I was walking for exercise while being productive for my business by dictating.
Good point Geoffrey!
I use dictation constantly on my iPad and my MacBook Air. It’s easier for me this way because I have cerebral palsy and dictation really helps because I am is it a one finger typist lol.
Thank you Steve for sharing and quickly responding
Not sure why I have never taken advantage of this- as it seems - dead easy! I shall begin - thanks, Steve!
Thank you for this.
I have also a gdocs hacks: i use Undetectable AI Human auto typer to write my essays instead of copy pasting them directly to gdocs
I love your tutorials for sure! Could you please spend an item on how to include a picture in an email? I seem to struggle with that every single time. Thank you so much and greetings from The Netherlands.
If you have Word and Yahoo you can do it easily.
Copy the picture from its source (I assume you know how to do this) and paste it into a blank new sheet in Word. If the picture is too small, stretch it by left clicking on the picture inside the dashed line that appears.. A dashed line will surround the picture with a grip in each corner. Then grab the grip in the lower right hand corner. A diagonal arrow will appear in the lower right hand corner of the picture. Pull it by holding the left mouse button down and move in a diagonal direction (down and to the right). when the picture is of a proper size. (you can reduce its size the same way by going in opposite direction with the arrow). Click outside the dashed line (that closes the picture to further change). Name the picture document and save it to file in Word. Close the file in Word.(A document cannot be attached to an email if it remains open).
Write your message in Yahoo email. Click on the "paper cllip" at the bottom of the email. It will ask you if you want to attach a document from this (your) computer. Type the name of the document that the picture was saved in Word.
Then click on "open" at the bottom of the page. That attaches the document to your email. Click "send" at the bottom of the email. That's it.
You can check to make sure the picture is attached by going to the icon at the bottom of the email and clicking on it. It should appear immediately if it is or you should get a message of something that you did wrong or the icon will not appear at the bottom of the email. If that happens go through the steps above again.
Is it possible to voice type in gmail the way we can in Docs? I looked at the option in gmail and was not able to find a "microphone" option. Thanks, stumbled on your site a few days ago, most enlightening.
Not using the Google app, but your OS shoudl provide dictation inside of Gmail.
I don't seem to have this as an option in my Tools menu. Any idea why?
Can you make a video that helps you to recover you gmail account without access to that email, and that the account deleted 3 years ago
Hi Steve! I'm liking voice typing and trying to use it more and more. But I've hit an obstacle. I want to dictate a string of numbers WITHOUT Google formatting it as a phone number or sticking hyphens or spaces within the string. e.g., I want to enter my 16 digit CAA member number to sign into an app that monitors my driving habits but Gboard voice typing spits out either xxx-xxx-xxxxxx-xxxx or xxxx-etc or x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x. It seems to depend on the cadence of my voice during dictation. But I CANNOT get it to just type xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. ARG! This happens on my Samsung S20 Google Keep and also my Win10 desktop in google docs.
Bro thank god someone on youtube makes fas tot the point video goo job
More please,
Brilliant! And it also works in swedish :)
Good to know!
And Swahili?
Tackar, bra att veta.
Its not pulling up in tools. please advise
Hi, I couldn't find the voice typing opting in Tools, in fact I couldn't find it anywhere in Google Docs! Is a part of the paid service?
Gpt4 is coming...just wait
Don’t forget to proofread. We’ll will
Why would mine not have it? Are there different levels of google?
How do you get voice typing to capitalize the first word of a sentence?
I can't get this to work-all sentences dictated start with lower case.
There's no command to control this (no, "Auto-capitalization" doesn't work for this).
How do you do that?
Is there a way to adjust how it transcribes? It doesn't capitalize the first letter of my sentences and doesn't recognize "parentheses" or "new line."
A cool feature, clearly not available for all users as of yet, though.
I don't have that option either. Maybe soon I hope, but not yet.
Steve, what is the best text-to-speech software?
I just use the built in tools in Google Docs and the apple system tools on the mac and iOS
I drive a lot can i do this on my phone
Is there a way to use this when you are reviewing/editing someone else's work.
Is there an automatic translator
How to save a Google doc, Google sheets, and Google slides to my local machine.
Can this work with android?
Good job! HC ARORA VAISHALI GHAZIABAD UP INDIA
The first word that you did on voice typing was an error. You said Will, and it typed we'll. LoL
well caught
Some editing will be required. But for capturing the jist of what you want to say. It's really useful. ;)
I really only pointed this out because I found it humorous that it made a mistake on a video to demonstrate how good it was. I use voice input for many applications including Google docs, so I'm very used to how it works. It will never be perfect, but I just thought I'd point out the humor.
@@dottotech or we'll caught. Lol
Nope: Every time I say "period," it will just type "period." No punctuation.
That's great but you don't even show how to get into this program. You just assume that we know?
Google maps rong hai to rite kissa kar na comment karo
Yeah how to use it on the whole windows OS. The M$ product is a POS. It never works with any consistency. One month it works the next month it doesn't.
What video would I like to see? I'm really confused about how to copy a Google doc or sheet; also, how to share it or take back permissions (for example if I'm selling a budget planner). THANKS!!
Can you show a tutorial on how to translate a pdf document from Chinese to English, while keeping the document formatting (pictures, etc.)?
Excellent excellent excellent thank you so much!
Another great video but where's the cheat sheet on commands? You used NEW LINE to create a new paragraph. Is there one for capitalization? Is there one for italicize? And, can we create our own commands or voice macros? Also, can we change the ones that already exists? Instead of NEW LINE I would prefer RETURN.

Can you use foreign languages in Google Docs voice or in Google Docs?
Wow, that is so cool. Thank you very much, Steve Dotto!
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for an awesome ggl docs tutorial re its dictation feature! Is there a similar feature for calculator, or formula writing in sheets or other application? 🤔
Hi I'm sitting in Europe and to your invite Steve...I'm looking to get this hooked up but what do I need to pay for and am I thinking correctly the standard Drive access to Docs is not so providing access...any helpwill be great thanks Hugh
What I've not been able to find anywhere is a comprehensive list of what _spoken punctuation_ Google's voice recognition supports. That's especially true for new line/carriage return/enter ... And the consistency seems to vary across apps, even if you're doing voice rec via Google Keyboard.
@1WhoConquers. Great point.
I'll throw one out there in case anyone has an answer. I cannot, for the life of me, get Google Keep to give me a new line or a carriage return. Idea: Then when these things do work, what happens when we want the _words_ new line, or enter, or carriage return? Maybe what we need is a configurable keyword that signals that the next word is intended to be punctuation. Are you listening, Google?
@@1WhoConquers. Your inquiry resonated with me partly because...
I learned that the voice typing (or voice recognition) feature was buried in the Google Docs menu perhaps 2-3 yrs ago. However, I could never figure out how to insert (on-the-fly) punctuation when I gave it a "test run." So it never became a part of my regular workflow for creating letters, e-mails, etc.
Hi, could you please help, when i say commar it writes commar instead of doing the symbol (,). What do you advise? Thanks :)
Congratulations Dotto, from Honduras.
Unfortunately voice typing isn’t available on a mobile device
I have a IpadPro, with the google apps on my iPad. However when I open google drive on the iPad with iPadOS 16, I do not see the tools option, which holds the voice typing option. Do I have to delete the google docs app on iPad and reinstall the desktop version of google doc. In that case what happens to all the doc files that I have on the IPad. Please respond
Is it possible to do this in android? when I bring up docs on mobile it doesn't seem to be there, and trying it in the web browser automatically opens the mobile app.
How do you do a simple spread sheet in Word 2010?
What do i do if theres no voice speaking option there?
Anything for dyslexics ?
Please, can we dictate comments?
I have no Item "Voice Typing" in the Browser Tool menu?
And on my Android smartphone i can't find it ...
It is only available on Desktop in Chrome
It’s a cool feature however I’ve lost when you said it requires a neutral accent.
It works better with a neutral accent, if you have a heavy accent it has more trouble. Canadian is considered very "middle of the road" as far as accents go.
@@dottotech imagine Brazilian English is not even a thing. Hehehe.
Thanks for this! I have many multilingual students that I would like to use this extension with - BUT I need to be able to translate their language into English and vice versa. Suggestions
