  • Nursing is widely considered a viable career pathway for economic security, especially for Black and Latine workers. Research also shows that a diverse healthcare workforce improves outcomes for patients of color.
In 2021, Loyola University’s Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing launched the CARE (Collaboration, Access, Resources, and Equity) Pathway to Bachelor of Science in Nursing program to help students of color pursue a degree in nursing. The program provides academic, financial and wraparound support to eliminate inequities that might make it harder for them to complete their education and succeed.
CARE Pathway was part of the inaugural cohort of grant recipients under the Trust’s Income Growth Solutions, a grant program that funds organizations working to strengthen how education, quality work opportunities, and financial health can lead to wealth. With additional support from a group of donors, the Trust made over $2.7 million in grants to 17 organizations.
