    STORYLINE:
Riders from across Egypt showcased their horses at the 28th Sharqiya Arabian Horse Festival, the country’s oldest equestrian contest.
The three-day event featured about 150 horses from 50 stables competing in beauty and dressage contests.
The jury judged the participating horses based on specific standards set by the European Conference of Arab Horse Organizations.
Arabian horses are judged based on five categories: type, which has to do with the horse's overall shape; head and neck; body; legs; and movement, explained Mohamed Zaghloul, one of the judges.
In dressage, a rider and horse perform a series of movements at various paces-walk, trot, and canter-set to music to showcase their artistic and technical skills.
A strong relationship between the jockey and the horse is essential for evaluating the rider's performance, said Reda Mokhtar, a dressage judge.
Dressage is a long-standing tradition at some weddings, serving both as a custom and a form of entertainment.
