Can someone explain what a “second awakening” is? Like other people that have a “second awakening”, can they see the screens and prompts, level up, etc like Jinwoo can? Or is “second awakening” something different that what Jinwoo experienced and they think he has a second awakening but has something else?
Jinwoo’s second awakening is different from the other second awakening. Jinwoo's.awakening has an intervention of a ”higher being". He is the only one who can level up while killing/gaining exp's.
Usually, a "second awakening" means a lower-ranked Hunter can suddenly gain enough power to be placed into a higher-skill bracket. For example, if Jinwoo had experienced a true "second awakening", he might've become any rank from D all the way to S (*though graduating from E to S in a "second awakening" is akin to winning the lottery I reckon*), but Jinwoo didn't, at least not in the usual meaning (*for that universe*). Jinwoo was actually granted a unique Hunter ability that no one else possessed in Hunter history, the ability to gain Experience and Level Up - with unlimited potential, so in terms of ranks he would be Beyond S Tier. If you are ONLY following the anime, the true origin of his abilities remains unknown, only the interface called System is apparently responsible. However, the webtoon and Light Novel have already cleared that up (*at least the webtoon did, the upcoming Light Novel vol. 9 looks to explain everything*).
nope, second awakening is like a hidden talent. it's like the first time messi discovered he can play football well. after that discovery, his ceiling of skills become high and he can level up through it. sung jin woo's power up is a little bit different though, as far as the plot goes in anime sung jin woo got power up due to dungeon's test. dungeon's creature are like alien in sung jin woo's universe, so theorically speaking sung jin woo got his power from alien.
