I agree with Rae. I haven't dealt with the van stuff. I've had a 70 year man ask me for sex then follow me around for 5 months. I was like 24 at the time but I look like a 14 year old. And I'm not bragging about it either. My dentist at the time did not believe his assistant when she told him my age. I've also had a guy force his mouth onto mine because I didn't like him after saying some very hurtful things to me. Everyone blamed me for him forcefully kissing me.

Rae’s not wrong. As a woman, even when I go to safe places at night with my guy friends, I still have terrible anxiety. In a perfect world, we would be able to do what we want to do but it’s very imperfect and we can’t. It’s a harsh reality.

I appreciate what Rae is saying, she's trying to look after her friend, but it is a bit of a privileged problem to be able to only travel around at night with other people in a city. When I lived in Chicago quite a few of my jobs ended shift after it was dark and it's not like I can call someone to escort me home every night, especially in the winter when it gets dark early you're really limited at what time you can work in this scenario and most of us can't afford to do what Rae is saying.

The thing is, I don’t think this is exclusively for LA. Not even exclusive to America. I’ve had a creepy dude corner me into a seat when I was twelve, and asked me out while pinning me down to my seat. At the time my parents were out doing whatever, but I managed to run away from that situation. I’ve had the manager of a hotel call me “sexy” WHEN I WAS THIRTEEN. I’ve had guys follow me into convenience stores, even though I wasn’t wearing any provocative clothing. I don’t live in America, I live in Indonesia. The sad truth is that it’s a universal feeling for most females, not even women, girls too.

Don't know how to feel about the homeless comment, some of them are malicious but we demonize them far too much imo a lot of them are just humans in bad positions. But that doesn't mean don't be cautious around them, or cautious in general if you are a (wo)man alone at night!

agreed, as soon as she grouped them in as if they're people to be feared or hated is really disappointing. i have a close friend who's an absolute sweetheart and was homeless for a while because of her shitty family. yes, some homeless people are malicious, but so are some people in any group.

I have lots of girl friends but the only thing they fear out during the dark in the city is when they walk alone and there are group of dogs, like homeless unadopted dogs roaming around in the town/city and they thought those dogs are gonna bite the shit out of them
Most of my girl friends usually walk near of some drunk dudes in my city it’s because it’s less likely they’ll be attack by dogs, and most of those drunk dudes are just talking about religion and political shits anyway
